Campgrounds near Twin Lakes, Wisconsin
Twin Lakes sits in southeast Wisconsin's Kenosha County, minutes from the Illinois line and within a compact cluster of lake-and-prairie parks that draw RV travelers from both the Milwaukee and Chicago metros. The town itself borders Lake Mary and Lake Elizabeth, and the surrounding countryside is threaded with the Fox River and the interconnected Chain O'Lakes waterway.
Camping options run from municipal fairgrounds hookups to full state-run recreation areas. The Kenosha County Fair Association in Wilmot offers RV and tent sites at the county fairgrounds, and Fox River Recreation sits along the river corridor between Twin Lakes and Silver Lake. Grass Lake Marina and RV Park lies just across the state line in Antioch, Illinois, on the Chain O'Lakes water system.
For larger public land, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is a short drive north near Kansasville, and Turner Lake South at Chain O Lakes State Park sits south of the border in Spring Grove, Illinois. Together these give renters a mix of hookup parks for larger rigs and forested state sites for a quieter stay.
Things to do near Twin Lakes
Water recreation is the anchor. Lake Mary, Lake Elizabeth, and the Fox River support boating, kayaking, and fishing for bass, walleye, and panfish, and the Chain O'Lakes system south of the border adds hundreds of connected surface acres for larger boats.
Richard Bong State Recreation Area offers nearly 30 miles of trails for biking, cross-country skiing, hiking, and ATV riding, along with horseback trails and a special use zone for model airplanes, rockets, and hot air balloons. A sandy swim beach, an accessible fishing pier, and a nature center round out the family options.
Off the water, Wilmot Mountain draws winter skiers, the Wilmot Raceway roars to life most Saturday nights, featuring gripping weekly racing and occasional events like tractor pulls from May to September, and Lake Geneva sits a short drive west for shops, boat tours, and restaurants.

The practical RV season in this corner of Wisconsin runs roughly May through October. 30-Amp and 50-Amp sites are available at the Kenosha County Fairgrounds, and camping is available from May 1 to September 30. Private parks along the Fox River and Chain O'Lakes generally follow a similar window.
Late spring brings green-up and steady rain, and mosquitoes can be heavy near the wetlands into early summer. July and August are peak booking months, with warm days, active lakes, and full campgrounds on weekends. The Kenosha County Fair takes place every third week of August at the Wilmot fairgrounds, and the on-site Wilmot Raceway runs most Saturday nights, so light sleepers should factor noise into site selection.
September and October bring cooler nights, thinning crowds, and strong fall color across the oak-savanna and prairie units. Winter camping options in the area are limited, and most private parks close for the season.

How to book campgrounds near Twin Lakes
Wisconsin state properties, including Richard Bong State Recreation Area, use the state's central reservation system. Camping reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance of the planned date of occupancy, online or by calling 1-888-947-2757. A minimum three-night reservation is required on holiday weekends. A vehicle admission pass is required for any motor vehicles brought into the property, in addition to the site fee.
Just across the state line, Chain O Lakes State Park uses Illinois' own portal at camp.exploremoreil.com. Private options such as the Kenosha County Fair Association, Fox River Recreation, and Grass Lake Marina and RV Park book directly through the property or through third-party marketplaces, and popular summer weekends fill weeks ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in this area lean toward open, grassy layouts rather than deep-woods pull-throughs. The Kenosha County Fair Association is a fairgrounds-style setup with 112 sites that are fully electric with most having water, a dump station on the grounds, and both 30-Amp and 50-Amp sites, located across from the Fox River near Silver Lake Park.
At Richard Bong, there are two family campgrounds with a total of 217 campsites, 54 with electric hookups, and six group campsites that can accommodate 225 campers. Campground amenities include a shower building, flush and vault toilets, a dump station and a playground area.
At Turner Lake South in Chain O Lakes State Park, sites feel more rustic than the park's electric loops. Cell coverage across the area is generally strong on major carriers, and grocery and fuel stops are easy to find in Twin Lakes, Antioch, and Burlington.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Twin Lakes, WI
How much does an RV rental in Twin Lakes typically cost?
An RV rental in Twin Lakes is one of the most budget-friendly ways to explore southeastern Wisconsin's lake country. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run about $95 to $185 per night, Class C motorhomes range from about $175 to $300, and larger Class A rigs land between $250 and $450. Weekly bookings and shoulder-season trips in May or September often shave 15 to 25 percent off peak summer rates. For a cheap RV rental in Twin Lakes, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts offering delivery within Kenosha County. Pro tip: book at least 8 weeks ahead of Country Thunder in mid-July, when nearby inventory tightens fastest.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Twin%20Lakes%2C%20WisconsinWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Twin Lakes?
Good news, your everyday driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Wisconsin, including every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required for personal RV use in the state. You'll need to be at least 25 years old and upload a clear photo of your license during booking so RVezy can verify your ID and approve you as a driver. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association along with your home license. Most first-timers are approved quickly and on the road toward Lake Mary in no time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs the RV protected if something goes wrong on my trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Twin Lakes booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pull away. The protection plan covers most accidental physical damage to the RV, and you choose your level of coverage at checkout, not the host. That means you get to decide how much peace of mind to add, whether it's a quick weekend at Lake Elizabeth or a longer Wisconsin road trip. It is not standard auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial backup. Pro tip: review the included tier first, then upgrade if you're traveling with kids or pets, it's only a few dollars more per night.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Twin Lakes RV trip?
RVezy uses a single, platform-wide cancellation policy, so you don't have to compare different policies on individual listings. You can receive a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of the host accepting your booking (the grace period). After that, refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Trips disrupted by qualifying natural disasters may be reviewed under the natural disasters cancellation policy. If a host cancels your booking, you'll receive a full refund, including fees and taxes. Pro tip: book early to lock in summer Twin Lakes dates, then revisit your plans during the 24-hour grace window if things shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Twin Lakes?
Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental in Twin Lakes is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see dog-welcoming rigs across the Kenosha County area. Many hosts include pets at no extra charge, while others add a small cleaning fee, which is shown clearly on the listing before you book. Once you arrive, Big Foot Beach State Park near Lake Geneva allows leashed pets on most trails and in the campground (but not on the swimming beach or picnic areas), and Richard Bong State Recreation Area has miles of pet-friendly trails. Pro tip: message the host through the listing about your dog's size, they often share which beds and couches are pup-approved.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/petsinparksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Twin Lakes?
Yes, RV delivery in Twin Lakes is offered by many local hosts, which is a game-changer for first-time renters or anyone who would rather skip the towing learning curve. Hosts can drop the rig at Big Foot Beach State Park, Richard Bong State Recreation Area, a Twin Lakes lakefront rental driveway, or a Country Thunder camping site (with the required festival pass), then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees typically run about $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, with some offering a flat fee within 15 to 20 miles. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on RVezy, then ask the host about setup and pickup, many include both in one flat rate.
rvezy.com/rv-deliveryHow far can I drive on a Twin Lakes RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
Plenty far, and yes, RV rental with unlimited mileage is available from select Twin Lakes hosts, especially on travel trailers and campervans. Most listings include around 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles billed at roughly $0.30 to $0.45 each, so a typical weekend exploring the Geneva Lakes area rarely uses the full allotment. Twin Lakes sits in a sweet spot for road trips: Milwaukee is about 50 miles north, Chicago is about 65 miles southeast, the Wisconsin Dells are about 165 miles northwest, and Door County is about 240 miles up the lakeshore. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Twin Lakes, sort listings by mileage allowance and message hosts about weekly mileage bundles.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Twin%20Lakes%2C%20WisconsinWhat are the best campgrounds near Twin Lakes for RV camping?
You have great options for RV camping near Twin Lakes within a short drive. Big Foot Beach State Park in Lake Geneva (about 13 miles west) offers around 100 sites, with 34 of them on electric pedestals, plus showers, vault toilets, and a dump station near the contact station. Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Kansasville (about 20 miles north) features two family campgrounds with 217 sites total and 54 electric sites, primarily in the Sunrise Campground, with showers, flush toilets, and a dump station. Private parks in the area add full hookups, pools, and family amenities. Pro tip: reserve Wisconsin state park sites up to 11 months ahead through wisconsin.goingtocamp.com for summer weekends, they sell out fast.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/bong/recreation/campingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Twin Lakes?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot, with peak warmth and lake activity from mid-June through August when daytime highs typically sit in the upper 70s to mid-80s F and Twin Lakes hums with boating and beach days. September is a local favorite: daytime temps hover in the 65 to 75 F range, mosquitoes fade, campgrounds open up, and the Kettle Moraine hardwoods turn gold and crimson by late September into October. Winter RV rentals are limited because most southeastern Wisconsin campgrounds close from late October through April, though a few hosts rent four-season rigs. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season Twin Lakes RV trip and you can often save around 20 percent compared with July rates.
weather.gov/mkx/I have never driven an RV before. Is renting in Twin Lakes really beginner-friendly?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Twin Lakes is genuinely doable, and most renters feel confident within the first hour. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, slide-outs, leveling, and the dump valves, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Twin Lakes is also a forgiving place to learn: rural Kenosha County roads like CTH O and CTH F are wide, flat, and lower traffic than driving in Milwaukee or Chicago. Prefer to skip driving entirely? Book a host who delivers and sets up at your campground. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or a 20 to 25 foot travel trailer for your first trip, they are the easiest to handle.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. Whether it's a flat tire on Highway 50, a dead battery at Richard Bong State Recreation Area, or a tow into Kenosha for a mechanical issue, one phone call dispatches help to your location. Your host is also typically a quick message away for questions like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater, and RVezy support is available around the clock. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone the day you book so it's ready if you ever need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/sections/360005973354-Insurance-and-roadside-assistanceCan I take my Twin Lakes RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, most Twin Lakes hosts welcome interstate travel, and Wisconsin's location makes that especially fun. From Twin Lakes you are under an hour to Illinois, about two hours to Indiana, and roughly five to six hours to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, all popular RV road trip routes. Travel to Canada may be allowed with advance host approval, so message the host through RVezy chat before booking if you are eyeing Ontario or Manitoba. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection plan does not extend there. Pro tip: a classic loop from Twin Lakes runs Milwaukee to Door County and back, around 500 to 600 miles round trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan for roughly 8 to 12 miles per gallon for a Class C motorhome, 6 to 10 mpg for a Class A, and 10 to 16 mpg for tow vehicles pulling a travel trailer. Wisconsin regular unleaded has recently averaged in the low-to-mid $3 per gallon range, with stations in Twin Lakes, Lake Geneva, and Kenosha often a few cents cheaper than along the I-94 corridor. For a typical 300-mile weekend RV trip from Twin Lakes, expect roughly $90 to $140 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: top off in Kenosha before heading north, prices along Highway 50 are usually among the lowest in the region.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Twin Lakes?
Book early. Wisconsin state park campsites near Twin Lakes can be reserved up to 11 months in advance through the official Wisconsin State Park reservation system, and summer weekends at Big Foot Beach and Richard Bong State Recreation Area routinely fill the day the booking window opens. For private parks, 3 to 6 months ahead is usually enough, except around Country Thunder week in mid-July, when nearly everything within 30 miles books solid. If you are flexible, Sunday through Wednesday nights almost always have openings within a week. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for exactly 11 months before your target date and be ready when the window opens, that is when new inventory drops.
wisconsin.goingtocamp.com/What are driving conditions like around Twin Lakes?
Driving around Twin Lakes is refreshingly easy in an RV. The roads are flat, well-paved, and rural once you leave the I-94 corridor. Highway 50 is the main east-west route and handles big rigs without issue. Watch for low railroad underpasses near Kenosha (some clearances around 12 feet) and avoid the narrow lakefront streets right around Lake Mary and Lake Elizabeth in a large Class A, those were laid out long before 35-foot motorhomes existed. Summer brings beach traffic on weekends, especially Friday afternoons heading out of Chicago. Winters can be icy with lake-effect snow, so most renters stick to May through October. Pro tip: use Highway 12 or CTH O instead of cutting through downtown Twin Lakes with anything over 28 feet.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/travel/road/511.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Twin Lakes?
You'll be well taken care of. Campgrounds near Twin Lakes range from full-service private parks to rustic state park sites. Big Foot Beach State Park offers electric pedestals at 34 of its sites, hot showers, vault toilets, and a dump station near the contact station (no individual site water or sewer hookups). Richard Bong State Recreation Area's Sunrise Campground has electric sites, a dump station, showers, and flush toilets. Many private parks in the area add full water-sewer-electric hookups, Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Pro tip: confirm hookup amps with your host before booking, a 50-amp rig at a 30-amp site needs a simple adapter the host can usually provide.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/bigfoot/recreation/campingWhat is typically included inside a motorhome rental in Twin Lakes?
A typical motorhome rental in Twin Lakes comes stocked for instant comfort. Expect a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and basic cookware, a private bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4 to 8 people with seatbelted travel seats, climate-controlled heat and air conditioning, and most rigs include a TV plus a generator or solar setup for off-grid power. Many Twin Lakes hosts also include linens, towels, camp chairs, and outdoor mats, with Wi-Fi hotspots sometimes available as an add-on. A campervan rental in Twin Lakes is leaner but covers the essentials, perfect for couples. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities checklist and message the host through RVezy if you want extras like a grill or paddleboard, many keep them on hand.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Twin%20Lakes%2C%20WisconsinWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Plenty of extras are available to customize your trip. Popular RVezy add-ons in Twin Lakes include kitchen kits, linen and towel packages, bike racks, generators, paddleboards, and tow packages, all clearly listed with prices on each rental page before you book. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Twin Lakes, Wilmot, Genoa City, or Lake Geneva, usually in the early afternoon with return the following morning. Mileage allowances vary by listing, most include around 100 miles per night, with extras at roughly $0.30 to $0.45 per mile. Pro tip: one-way trips and late returns are sometimes negotiable, just message the host before booking and confirm in writing through RVezy chat.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Twin%20Lakes%2C%20WisconsinHow does payment and the security deposit work?
It is straightforward and secure. When you book a Twin Lakes RV rental on RVezy, your full trip cost is charged to your credit or debit card through the platform, never directly to the host, which keeps everything documented and protected. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's value) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged unless there is damage or extra cleaning. As long as you return the RV in similar condition with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold drops off within a few business days. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, it is the easiest way to avoid any deposit dispute.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight in Twin Lakes outside of a campground?
You have a few solid options. Knowing where to park an RV in Twin Lakes legally makes the trip much smoother. Overnight parking on public streets in the Village of Twin Lakes is restricted, so plan to stay at a campground, a private driveway you have rented, or a host-approved lakefront property. Many Twin Lakes RVezy hosts rent driveway space as an add-on, and Harvest Hosts members can use participating farms and wineries in nearby Walworth County. For longer travel days, some Walmart and Cracker Barrel locations in the Kenosha area allow one-night RV parking with manager approval. Pro tip: always call ahead, lot policies change seasonally in Wisconsin.
