Campgrounds near Nordic, Wyoming
Nordic is a small census-designated place in Lincoln County, Wyoming, sitting at roughly 6,120 feet on U.S. Route 89 about seven miles south of Alpine. It lies inside Star Valley, the long north-south basin drained by the Salt River, with the Greys River, Snake River, and Palisades Reservoir converging just to the north near Alpine.
RV travelers use Nordic as a quiet base between Jackson Hole to the north and Afton to the south. Full-hookup options in the immediate area include Wolf Den RV Park in Thayne, Star Valley Ranch RV Park off Cedar Creek Road, Snake River Cabins and RV Village near Alpine Junction, Palisades Cabins and RV, and Greys River Cove RV Park closer to the mouth of the Greys River Road.
The surrounding public land is the Bridger-Teton National Forest, which is the primary agency managing developed campgrounds, dispersed sites, and river access in the corridor. Cell coverage thins quickly outside the highway corridor, so trip planning should account for offline maps.
Things to do near Nordic
The Greys River Road runs almost 60 miles south from Alpine to Tri Basin Divide, providing access to fishing, kayaking, hiking, OHV riding, and horseback riding along the way. The Salt River is a well-known cutthroat trout fishery, and Palisades Reservoir just west of Alpine is a regional destination for boating, paddleboarding, and lake fishing.
Day trips from Nordic reach Grand Teton National Park and Jackson to the north, and Periodic Spring in Swift Creek Canyon east of Afton, one of only a handful of known rhythmic cold-water springs in the world. Trails on the Bridger-Teton National Forest cover terrain from beginner loops to multi-day backcountry routes. Winters bring snowmobiling and cross-country skiing on groomed routes in the Star Valley area.

December - February
27° / 10°F 65 mmDeep snow; most forest campgrounds closed
The main camping season across the Bridger-Teton National Forest, including the Greys River Corridor, runs roughly between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Snow lingers at higher elevations well into spring, forest roads can be muddy or gated in April and May, and many developed campgrounds do not open until late May or early June.
July and August are the peak months. Days are warm and mostly dry, with average highs in the mid to upper seventies Fahrenheit, and nights stay cool because of the valley's elevation. Afternoon thunderstorms are common and can drop temperatures quickly. This is also when private RV parks in Thayne, Star Valley Ranch, and Alpine fill fastest, so sites should be locked in well ahead.
September brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and fall color along the Snake and Greys drainages. Snow can begin in October, and winter is long, cold, and heavy with snowfall, which closes most forest campgrounds and access roads until the following spring.
How to book a site
Private RV parks around Nordic, including Wolf Den RV Park, Star Valley Ranch RV Park, Snake River Cabins and RV Village, Palisades Cabins and RV, and Greys River Cove RV Park, are booked directly through each property. Summer weekends and holiday periods sell out early, so reservations several months in advance are recommended for peak dates.
On the Bridger-Teton National Forest, reservable developed campgrounds are booked through Recreation.gov, with booking windows that typically open several months ahead. Campgrounds along the Greys River Corridor operate first-come, first-served rather than by reservation, and a 16-day stay limit applies. For dispersed camping on the forest, no reservation is required, but food-storage orders and stay-limit rules are enforced.
What to expect on the ground
Elevations around Nordic sit near 6,100 feet, so nights are cool even in midsummer and altitude affects cooking times, generator performance, and how quickly hikers tire. Weather can shift fast, with sunny mornings giving way to afternoon thunderstorms in July and August.
Hookups, showers, laundry, and dump stations are found at the private RV parks along the U.S. 89 corridor between Alpine, Thayne, and Star Valley Ranch. Forest Service campgrounds along the Greys River are more basic, typically offering vault toilets and, at some sites, a hand pump for water. Cell service is reliable in the valley towns but drops off along the Greys River Road and other forest roads.
This is active bear country. Food, coolers, and scented items must be stored per Bridger-Teton food-storage orders, and campers should expect to encounter moose, elk, and deer along river bottoms.

Insider tip: aim for the second week of September for fall color and bargain rates.
weather.gov/riw/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay around Nordic, WY?
You'll be in great shape, this is one of the friendliest first-time renting an RV regions in Wyoming. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, propane, brakes, and dump procedure, so you're never figuring it out solo. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a delivery host who'll park and set up the rig at your campground. U.S. Route 89 through the Snake River Canyon is a beautiful 22-mile stretch with sweeping curves, steady grades, and frequent wildlife crossings, watch for moose and elk at dawn and dusk. Teton Pass (Highway 22 to Jackson) climbs to 8,431 feet with 10% grades and a seasonal restriction on vehicles over 60 feet; plan to use the canyon route in a larger motorhome. Winters bring snow and ice from November through April, and chains or snow tires may be required on passes. Always check WYDOT's 511 system before driving. Pro tip: aim to clear the canyon before sunset for the safest, prettiest drive.

For full 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi, head to Snake River RV Park in Alpine or Greys River Cove RV Park. The closest dump stations and fresh water fills are in Alpine. Most listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles around $0.35 each, and many offer unlimited mileage packages for longer Yellowstone loops. Pickup usually happens at the host's home in Star Valley; delivery typically runs $2 to $4 per mile. fs.usda.gov/recarea/btnf/recarea/?recid=71544How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Nordic, WY?
Payment is simple and secure: everything runs through RVezy's protected checkout, so you never hand cash or card info directly to a host. You'll pay the rental total plus service fee at booking using a major credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the rig came back in good shape, typically within a few days of return. To avoid hiccups, complete the pre-trip walkthrough together, photograph the interior and exterior, and follow the dump and refuel instructions. Pro tip: keep your fuel receipt from the Alpine Maverik as proof you returned the RV topped off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Nordic, WY for a winter or cold-weather trip?
Yes, and a winter rental in Nordic is genuinely magical, Star Valley is a snowmobiling and ice-fishing hotspot from December through March. Filter on RVezy for 4-season rigs and message hosts to confirm heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and winter-rated insulation. You'll want shore power at a winterized park (Snake River RV Park in Alpine keeps select sites open) since dispersed Forest Service campgrounds along the Greys River close for the season. Daytime highs in January average in the 20s with overnight lows near zero, so propane consumption climbs fast, plan to refill every 3 to 4 days. Pro tip: pair your winter motorhome rental Nordic, WY booking with a snowmobile tour up the Greys River for an unforgettable Wyoming adventure.
