We had a good experience. The RV was clean when we picked it up, it was equipped with all needed amenities such as the generator as we experienced a power outage at our camp site and it was good to have backup. It was easier to drive and maneuver than we expected given the length of the vehicle. Did not use AC as it was cold, but the heater definitely works. The lady who does the pickup and drop off walk through was very helpful in going over all our questions and was flexible in giving us more time to drop off. It has a huge trunk area that we regretted not bringing kids bikes with. The RV had way more storage than we needed (2 kids 2 adults) and was toasty in colder weather camping. I would recommend this RV rental to others.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in West Nipissing, ON

How much does it cost to rent an RV in West Nipissing, Ontario?

Good news, an RV rental in West Nipissing is one of the most affordable ways to explore Northern Ontario. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run $90 to $175 CAD per night, Class C motorhomes $200 to $325, and campervans around $150 to $250. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can filter by price range and find a cheap RV rental in West Nipissing that fits your budget. Pro tip: booking midweek between Tuesday and Thursday, or shoulder-season dates in late May or September, can shave 20 to 30 percent off summer peak rates around Sturgeon Falls and Lake Nipissing. Add it all up and a four-night Lake Nipissing camping trip can easily cost less than a single hotel weekend in Toronto.

Do I need a special licence to rent an RV in West Nipissing?

Great news for first-time renters: a regular Ontario G licence (or its equivalent from your home province, state or country) is all you need to rent an RV in West Nipissing. There is no CDL or special RV endorsement required for the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers and fifth wheels you will find on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID is verified through the RVezy platform during booking, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence. Most guests are surprised how quickly the requirements check is done, leaving you free to focus on the Lake Nipissing shoreline waiting for you.

What if my plans change after I book my West Nipissing RV rental?

Booking your West Nipissing RV trip is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. The full, current policy lives on the RVezy Help Centre, and the support team is available before, during and after your trip. Reserve early, then refine the plan as your Lake Nipissing dates get closer.

Can I bring my dog on a West Nipissing RV trip?

Absolutely, West Nipissing is a fantastic destination for a pet-friendly RV rental. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see plenty of motorhomes and travel trailers whose hosts welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Once on the road, your pup will love the Kamp K9 dog park and dog beach at Sturgeon Falls KOA Holiday, the off-leash trails through the Sturgeon River House Museum wetlands, and the long sandy shoreline at Cache Bay. Most provincial parks nearby, including Mashkinonje and French River, allow leashed pets on trails and at campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and bring a tie-out for evenings around the campfire on Lake Nipissing.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground or cottage?

Yes, RV delivery in West Nipissing is one of the best ways to start your trip stress free. Many RVezy hosts will tow the trailer or motorhome directly to your site at Sturgeon Falls KOA, Glenrock Cottages and Trailer Park, Panorama Camp on Northwest Bay, or a family cottage on Lake Nipissing, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. This is ideal if it is your first time renting an RV or if you would rather skip towing on Highway 17. Filter by Delivery on RVezy, message the host with your destination address, and confirm the delivery fee (usually based on distance from Sturgeon Falls or Verner). Arrive, unpack, relax.

How far can I travel from West Nipissing on a typical RV rental?

You have huge range from West Nipissing, and many hosts offer generous daily kilometre allowances or RV rental with unlimited mileage packages, so always check the listing's mileage policy before booking. Popular drives include North Bay (about 40 km east, 35 minutes), Sudbury (90 km west, just over an hour), French River Provincial Park (about 60 km south), Mattawa (110 km east) and Algonquin Park's Kiosk access point (about 150 km southeast). Even a weekend RV trip from West Nipissing puts you within reach of multiple provincial parks. Pro tip: if you are planning a longer loop toward Killarney or Algonquin, message the host upfront so they can quote you the best per-kilometre rate or a flat unlimited add-on.

Where are the best campgrounds to stay near West Nipissing?

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to the best campgrounds near West Nipissing. Sturgeon Falls KOA Holiday on Leblanc Road is a local favourite with pull-through sites, a pool and Sturgeon River frontage. Glenrock Cottages and Trailer Park sits near Lake Nipissing with full-service sites. Panorama Camp on Northwest Bay offers three-way hookup sites and a sandy beach. For a more rugged feel, Restoule Provincial Park to the south gives you classic Canadian Shield camping with electric and non-electric sites. Pro tip: book Lake Nipissing waterfront sites by late February for July and August dates.

When is the best time of year to take an RV trip in West Nipissing?

The sweet spot for RV camping in West Nipissing runs from mid-May through early October, with the warmest weather in July and August (daytime highs of 24 to 27 C, cool evenings around 13 to 15 C, perfect for campfires on Lake Nipissing). Late June into early July offers long daylight, swimmable lakes and fewer bugs than the May black-fly window. September is a local secret: vibrant red maples along the Sturgeon River, walleye fishing at its peak and campgrounds half-empty. Winter RVing is possible (think ice fishing on Lake Nipissing and snowmobile trails), but you will want a four-season unit with heated tanks and full propane. Plan around late June to mid-September for the easiest, sunniest experience.

I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?

You will be more than okay, West Nipissing is one of the friendliest places in Ontario for first time renting an RV. Roads like Highway 17 and Highway 64 are wide, well maintained and rarely congested outside of long weekends, and most campgrounds around Sturgeon Falls feature pull-through sites that mean no reverse parking required. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, dump procedures and driving tips for your specific rig, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer under 25 feet for your first outing, and consider delivery so the host parks it for you. Confidence comes fast once you are rolling.

What happens if something goes wrong on the road during my West Nipissing RV trip?

Help is always close at hand on your West Nipissing RV trip. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery and towing, whether you are on Highway 17 near Verner or down a quiet road by Cache Bay. You can also message your host directly through the app for questions about the specific RV (how to reset the inverter, where the water pump switch is), and RVezy customer support is reachable before, during and after the trip. Cell coverage is solid along Highway 17 and around Sturgeon Falls; keep a paper map for deeper bush trips toward Mashkinonje. You are never stranded alone.

Can I take my West Nipissing RV rental across the US border or to other provinces?

Yes, an RV road trip from West Nipissing into Quebec or the United States is often possible, but it must be approved by the host before you book. Crossing into Quebec via Mattawa (about 90 minutes east) is a popular run toward Gatineau and Montreal, and many hosts also allow trips into New York State via the Thousand Islands or Sault Ste. Marie crossing. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance limits. Always message the host with your planned route, carry your booking confirmation, passport and vehicle registration at the border, and let CBSA know you are in a rented RV. Once approved, your cross-border adventure is good to go.

How much should I budget for fuel and what kind of mileage do these RVs get?

Fuel is one of the biggest variables on a West Nipissing RV trip, but it is easy to budget once you know the numbers. Travel trailers towed by a half-ton truck average 14 to 18 L per 100 km, Class C motorhomes 18 to 23 L per 100 km, and campervans a thrifty 11 to 14 L per 100 km. Gas prices in Sturgeon Falls and along Highway 17 typically sit a few cents above the Ontario average; the Pioneer station on King Street and the Esso in Verner are reliable fill-ups. For a 400 km weekend loop around Lake Nipissing in a Class C, plan roughly $120 to $160 in fuel. Driving 90 km/h instead of 110 noticeably stretches your tank.

How far in advance should I book campgrounds around West Nipissing?

For the best campgrounds near West Nipissing, the earlier the better, especially for July, August and any Friday-Saturday combo. Ontario Parks (including Restoule and French River) opens reservations exactly five months ahead through the Ontario Parks reservation system at reservations.ontarioparks.ca, and prime waterfront sites disappear within minutes of opening at 7 a.m. Eastern. Private parks like Sturgeon Falls KOA, Glenrock Cottages and Trailer Park, and Panorama Camp typically open winter bookings in January or February. Pro tip: if you strike out for a Lake Nipissing weekend, try Tuesday-to-Thursday stays or look at smaller municipal sites in Field or Lavigne. Many hosts can also recommend favourite local spots when you message them through RVezy.

What are local driving conditions like around West Nipissing?

Driving conditions in West Nipissing are some of the most RV friendly in Ontario. Highway 17 (the Trans-Canada) runs straight through Sturgeon Falls with wide shoulders, gentle grades and four-lane sections between North Bay and Sudbury. Highway 64 south toward Noelville and French River is two-lane and scenic but watch for moose at dawn and dusk; the local OPP detachment reports moose-vehicle collisions are most common May through October. In winter, lake-effect squalls can drop visibility quickly, so check 511 Ontario before heading out. Wildfire smoke can occasionally affect visibility in mid-summer. Otherwise, traffic is light, gas stops are plentiful, and there are no low bridges or weight-restricted routes to worry about in town.

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds in the West Nipissing area?

Campgrounds around West Nipissing offer the full range, from full-service resorts to rustic backcountry. At Sturgeon Falls KOA Holiday and Glenrock Cottages and Trailer Park you will find 30 and 50-amp electrical, water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, propane refills and on-site dump stations. Panorama Camp on Northwest Bay has three-way hookups and a sandy beach. Provincial parks like Restoule and French River offer electrical or non-electric sites, vault or flush toilets, drinking water taps and dump stations, but no sewer hookups at the site. Free public dump and potable water fills are available at the Sturgeon Falls KOA (fee for non-guests) and the Municipality of West Nipissing's seasonal stations. Always top up fresh water before heading deeper into the bush.

What features and amenities come with the RVs themselves?

RVs on RVezy in West Nipissing come well equipped for Northern Ontario adventures. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and bunk options (most rigs sleep four to seven), a full kitchen with propane stove, microwave, fridge and freezer, an interior bathroom with toilet and shower in Class C and larger trailers, roof-mounted air conditioning, a furnace for cool September nights, and DOT-approved seatbelts for the listed passenger capacity. Many hosts include linens, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs, a BBQ and even fishing gear as add-ons. Generators, solar packages and Starlink or cellular Wi-Fi boosters are increasingly common, useful when boondocking near Lake Nipissing where signal can be spotty. Check the listing's amenities list and message the host to confirm any must-haves.

Pickup is typically at the host's home in Sturgeon Falls, Verner or Lavigne, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough. Pro tip: message the host early if you are heading to local festivals or fishing derbies to confirm event parking is allowed.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment for your campervan rental in West Nipissing is straightforward and entirely handled through the RVezy platform, so you never pay the host directly. At booking, you pay a portion to confirm your dates, with the balance charged before your trip starts. A refundable security deposit (set per listing) is pre-authorized on your credit card before pickup and released after the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any holds, do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and drop-off, return with the agreed fuel and propane level, and empty the tanks if required. Everything is documented in the app, which keeps your Lake Nipissing trip simple and dispute-free.

Is West Nipissing a good base for a family RV trip?

Spend a day at Leisure Farms picking strawberries, raspberries or pumpkins (boat-accessible from Sturgeon Falls KOA), explore the Sturgeon River House Museum's 4 km of wetland trails, swim at Cache Bay's municipal beach, and try the 22-hole disc golf course in Sturgeon Falls. Older kids love the ATV trails maintained by the West Nipissing ATV Club, and stargazers will appreciate the area's low light pollution, sometimes catching the Aurora Borealis.
