RV & camper rentals in Homer, AK

An RV rental in Homer is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Kenai Peninsula, especially when you split costs across a group. On RVezy, travel trailers typically range from about $125 to $200 per night, while Class C motorhomes run roughly $200 to $350 per night during peak halibut season (June through August). Campervans fall in between and are great for couples. To find a cheap RV rental in Homer, aim for shoulder season (mid-May or early September), book at least 60 days ahead, and use the price filter on RVezy. Many Homer hosts also offer weekly discounts of 10 to 15 percent, which adds up quickly on a longer Spit-side stay.

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Homer. Alaska does not require a commercial driver's license for recreational vehicles under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every campervan, travel trailer, Class B, and Class C motorhome on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally required to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens directly through the RVezy platform when you book. International visitors should bring both their home-country license and an International Driving Permit. Then you are set to roll down the Sterling Highway toward Kachemak Bay.

You can book with confidence: every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you leave Homer until you return the keys. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle and is selected by you (not the host) during checkout, with different coverage levels and deductibles available to fit your trip. That means you can focus on watching sea otters in Kachemak Bay instead of worrying about gravel chips from the Sterling Highway. First-time renters and those booking larger rigs often choose a lower-deductible plan for extra peace of mind.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies its own cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund outcomes depend on factors like how far in advance you cancel and whether unexpected events (such as Alaska weather, wildfires, or natural disasters) come into play. Hosts do not set cancellation terms, RVezy does, which keeps the policy consistent across every Homer listing. If your plans shift, head into your RVezy account or contact support and the team will walk you through your options so your motorhome rental in Homer stays stress-free.

Yes, plenty of pups call the Kenai Peninsula their happy place. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Homer, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see listings where dogs are welcomed by the host. Homer is wonderfully dog-friendly: Bishop's Beach allows leashed dogs and is famous for long low-tide strolls, and the Homer Spit's beach areas are open to leashed pets. Most local campgrounds, including Heritage RV Park and Homer/Baycrest KOA, also accept dogs. Pro tip: bring a long-line leash and booties, since rocky Spit beaches can be tough on paws after a day of beachcombing.

Yes, and RV delivery in Homer is a game-changer for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts offer delivery, meaning your motorhome arrives already parked, leveled, and connected to hookups at your campsite, whether that's Heritage RV Park on the Spit, Ocean Shores RV Park up on the bluff, or the Homer/Baycrest KOA. The host walks you through every system at handoff, from the propane stove to the fresh water pump, so you are not figuring it out alone. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host to confirm the delivery fee (usually based on distance from Anchor Point or downtown Homer). It's the smoothest way to start your Homer RV trip.

You have a whole peninsula at your doorstep. Homer sits at the end of the Sterling Highway, about 220 miles south of Anchorage (roughly a 4.5 to 5 hour drive), so most renters head out for a classic loop. Popular RV road trip routes from Homer include Soldotna and the Kenai River (about 75 miles), Cooper Landing (about 100 miles), Seward and Kenai Fjords National Park (about 170 miles, 3.5 to 4 hours), and Anchorage (220 miles). Many RVezy hosts in Homer offer generous mileage policies, and some list with unlimited mileage, so check the listing details. Pro tip: build in extra time for moose sightings and volcano views near Ninilchik.

Homer has some of Alaska's most scenic camping, with great options for every style. Top picks include Heritage RV Park, a beachfront spot on the Spit with full hookups and Kachemak Bay views; Homer Spit Campground with sites right at the water's edge; Ocean Shores RV Park up on the bluff (warmer and less windy); the Homer/Baycrest KOA Holiday at Mile 169 of the Sterling Highway with sweeping bay overlooks; and the city-run Fishing Hole/Mariner Park campgrounds on the Spit, with first-come, first-served sites typically open spring through fall. Book private parks early for July weekends, especially around Salmonfest and the Peony Celebration.

Mid-June through mid-August is the sweet spot for RV camping in Homer, with daytime highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, long daylight hours (up to about 19 hours around the summer solstice), and the lowest rainfall of the year. This is peak halibut season and when Kachemak Bay truly comes alive. May and early September are smart shoulder-season picks: highs in the 50s, fewer crowds, and lower nightly rates on RVezy. Homer is nicknamed the Banana Belt of Alaska thanks to its mild maritime climate, but pack layers because Spit evenings dip into the 40s even in July. Fall color in late September is a hidden gem.

Yes, winter RV rentals in Homer are available and are an underrated adventure. Homer's coastal location keeps winter relatively mild for Alaska, with January highs typically in the high 20s F and lows in the low 20s F, much warmer than the interior. Several RVezy hosts list winter-ready RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces built for the cold. Plan for shore power hookups (Heritage RV Park stays partially open) and shorter daylight hours (around 6 hours in late December), and you'll be rewarded with northern lights, Nordic skiing, and quiet beaches. Message the host before booking to confirm cold-weather features for the Sterling Highway drive.

Homer is one of the friendliest places in Alaska for first-time renting an RV. The Sterling Highway into town is paved, well-maintained, and traffic is light compared to the Lower 48. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, hookups, holding tanks, and generator basics, so you are not figuring it out alone. If you are nervous, pick a smaller campervan or Class C under 25 feet, request delivery to skip driving altogether, and choose a host with the Instant Book badge for an easier booking. Pro tip: practice your turns in the large pull-out at the Baycrest Overlook before heading down to the Spit.

You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on the Sterling Highway or your battery dies at Anchor Point, one call gets a tow, jump start, lockout service, or tire change rolling your way. Your host is also a quick text away for questions about systems specific to their RV. Cell service is solid in Homer, Anchor Point, and Soldotna, though it can get spotty between Cooper Landing and the pass, so download offline maps before you go. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip if you need a hand.

Cross-border travel is possible, but it depends on the host. Many RVezy hosts in Homer allow trips up the Alaska Highway through the Yukon to British Columbia, which is the only road route in or out of Alaska. Message the host directly from the listing page before booking to confirm Canada is allowed and that insurance and protection coverage extend across the border. Bring your passport and the host's written permission letter for the Canadian border crossing at Beaver Creek. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. For most renters, the Kenai Peninsula loop offers more than enough adventure right here.

Budgeting fuel for an Alaska RV trip is straightforward once you know the numbers. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 mpg, campervans 15 to 20 mpg, and trucks pulling travel trailers 10 to 14 mpg. Gas prices in Homer often run higher than the U.S. average and above Anchorage, so consider filling up in Soldotna or Kenai on your way in for a better price. A round trip from Anchorage to Homer (about 440 miles) will burn roughly 40 to 55 gallons in a Class C. Pro tip: the Fred Meyer in Soldotna usually has some of the lowest fuel prices on the peninsula.

For a peak summer trip, book your Homer campground 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for July and the first week of August when Salmonfest and the Peony Celebration fill the Spit. Private parks like Heritage RV Park, Homer/Baycrest KOA, and Ocean Shores RV Park accept reservations directly through their websites or by phone. The city-managed campgrounds on the Homer Spit (Fishing Hole, Mariner Park) and Karen Hornaday are first-come, first-served, so arrive by mid-morning for the best chance at a spot. State park sites at Anchor River and Ninilchik can be reserved through the Alaska State Parks reservation system.

The drive to Homer is genuinely scenic and very manageable. The Sterling Highway from Anchorage is fully paved, two-lane for most of its length, and well-maintained, with regular pull-outs and rest stops. Watch for moose (especially at dawn and dusk near Cooper Landing), occasional gravel patches from road repair, and the steep descent into Homer from the Baycrest Overlook where engine braking helps. Summer brings RV traffic and slower fish-hauling trucks, so plan for the 220-mile Anchorage to Homer drive to take 5 to 5.5 hours with stops. In winter, carry tire chains and check 511.alaska.gov for road conditions before you go.

Homer campgrounds range from full-service resorts to rustic beach sites, so there is a fit for every rig. Private parks like Heritage RV Park and Homer/Baycrest KOA offer full hookups (20/30/50 amp electric, city water, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and on-site dump stations. City-managed Spit campgrounds offer waterfront sites with pit toilets and potable water fill stations, but no hookups, so you'll rely on your RV's holding tanks and generator. There is a public dump station near the Fishing Hole on the Spit, plus one at the top of the hill. Pro tip: fill fresh water before descending to the Spit, where wind can make hookups tricky.

Homer RV rentals on RVezy come well-equipped for Alaska adventures. Expect a full kitchen (propane stove, fridge, microwave), an enclosed bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, a furnace for cool Kachemak Bay nights, and seatbelted seats for every passenger. Many listings include a generator or solar setup for boondocking, plus heated holding tanks for shoulder-season trips. Homer hosts often add Alaska-friendly extras like bear spray, fishing rod holders, rain gear bins, and bug nets. TVs and Wi-Fi vary by listing, so check the amenities section. Linens, kitchen kits, and camping chairs are common add-ons (typically $25 to $75 each) you can request at booking.

RVezy hosts in Homer make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons include linens and bedding packages, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, generators, propane refills, portable grills, and fishing gear, usually priced between $20 and $100 each. Pickup is typically in the Homer or Anchor Point area, with delivery available to local campgrounds, Homer Airport (HOM), or even Anchorage for a fee on longer trips. Mileage policies vary: many hosts include 100 to 150 miles per day with extra miles around $0.35 to $0.50 each, while some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for the Anchorage to Homer to Seward loop. Check the listing's policies tab before booking so there are no surprises.

Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card at booking, and your funds are protected until your trip starts. Most hosts collect a refundable security deposit, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's size and value, which is placed as a hold (separate from your booking payment) shortly before pickup. The hold is released after the trip as long as the RV is returned in the same condition, with full propane, and within the mileage and generator hour limits. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with your Homer host, keep gas and dump-station receipts, and message any questions through RVezy so everything stays documented.
