This was a great experience we have previously rented from Cruise America which meant we had to go pick and return the unit. The delivery and pick up was such a convenience and it was delivered and picked up exactly when requested. The unit worked well for four adults. The beds were the most comfortable I've slept in, in an RV. The shower was roomy and had good water flow so you actually felt like you could get clean. The owners were very responsive to questions and did a great job with the set up the RV was solid the entire time. Will definitely look at renting this unit when we need and RV next.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Nogales, Arizona?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Nogales, Arizona, even for big Class A motorhomes. Arizona does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use recreational vehicles, so your standard license from any US state or Canadian province works. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are amazed how quick the verification is, usually done before you even leave home.

Pro tip: Patagonia Lake books up fast for weekends October through April, so reserve at azstateparks.com up to 365 days ahead to lock in a lake-view site.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Nogales?

Nogales has one of the most RV-friendly climates in the country, and the sweet spot runs from October through April when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 60s and 70s and nights cool down for great campfire weather. Winter highs in January and February still average around 64°F, making Nogales a fantastic snowbird base. May is warm and dry; July and August bring the Arizona Monsoon with afternoon thunderstorms and around 8 inches of rain across both months, which actually turns the desert lush and green. Pro tip: late September through November is the locals' favorite, you get warm days, dry skies, and uncrowded campgrounds at Patagonia Lake.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Nogales?

First time renting an RV? You'll do great in the Nogales area, and most local hosts will spend 30 to 60 minutes walking you through every system at pickup, from the propane and water to the awning and slideouts. The roads here are forgiving: Interstate 19 north to Tucson is a wide, modern highway (with distances marked in kilometers, a unique quirk left over from a 1980s federal pilot), and State Route 82 toward Patagonia is a scenic two-lane with light traffic. Pro tip: if you're nervous about driving, book a host who offers delivery so the RV is already parked and set up at your campsite, and you can focus on enjoying your trip.

What happens if I break down or have an issue on the road?

You are never on your own with an RV rental in Nogales. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the protection plan, so a flat tire on the way to Patagonia Lake or a dead battery at a Coronado National Forest campsite is just a phone call away from help. Your host is also a direct resource and usually responds quickly through the RVezy app since they know their rig best. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip if you need anything else. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you pull out, cell coverage can be spotty in the hills south of Sonoita.

Can I take my RV rental across the border into Mexico from Nogales?

Cross-border travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because the protection package and insurance coverage end at the US border, even though Nogales sits right at the Mariposa Port of Entry. The good news: you've got incredible US-side destinations within easy reach. Popular routes from Nogales include north to Tucson and Saguaro National Park (65 miles), east to the historic towns of Tombstone and Bisbee (75 to 90 miles), and northeast to Chiricahua National Monument (145 miles). If you want to walk across into Nogales, Sonora for a day of shopping or dining, you can park your RV at a US-side campground or RV park and cross on foot. Pro tip: many guests use Mountain View RV Ranch in Rio Rico as a base for day trips.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Nogales RV trip?

Fuel is easy to plan for in southern Arizona. Class B campervans get around 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes typically run 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Arizona gas prices tend to run slightly below the national average, and Nogales has plenty of stations along Mariposa Road and Grand Avenue, plus Pilot and Love's truck stops along Interstate 19 in Rio Rico that are easy to navigate with a big rig. Pro tip: fill up in Nogales or Rio Rico before heading toward Patagonia or Sonoita, prices climb noticeably once you leave the I-19 corridor.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Nogales?

For peak season (October through April), book your campsite at least 2 to 4 months ahead, especially for weekend stays at Patagonia Lake State Park, which is the most popular destination near Nogales. Arizona State Parks lets you reserve up to 365 days in advance through azstateparks.com, and a two-night minimum applies on peak-season weekends. For private RV parks like De Anza or Mountain View RV Ranch, 1 to 2 months ahead is usually enough except around the Tubac Festival of the Arts in February. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are far easier to book and often quieter, you'll often have lakeside sites at Patagonia practically to yourself.

What are driving conditions like around Nogales?

Driving an RV around Nogales is genuinely pleasant most of the year. Interstate 19 between Nogales and Tucson is a wide, well-maintained highway with gentle grades, and State Route 82 toward Patagonia and Sonoita is a scenic two-lane road with rolling hills and almost no big-rig traffic. A few things to know: July and August monsoon storms can cause flash flooding in washes, so watch for Do Not Enter When Flooded signs; winter mornings in the mountains east of town can bring brief icy patches; and the Border Patrol checkpoint on northbound I-19 near Tubac is routine, just slow down, answer a quick question, and you're through. Pro tip: avoid driving narrow downtown Nogales streets near the border in an RV, stick to Mariposa Road instead.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Nogales?

Campgrounds near Nogales range from full-service RV resorts to rustic state-park sites, so you can match the experience to your style. Patagonia Lake State Park has 105 sites with 20/30/50-amp electric, water hookups, a dump station, hot showers, and a marina store; De Anza RV Resort in Amado offers full hookups, laundry, pool, and clubhouse amenities; Mountain View RV Ranch has full hookups with mountain views; and dispersed sites in the Coronado National Forest are free but bring your water and a portable waste tank. The City of Nogales also has a public dump station, and most I-19 truck stops sell propane. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving Patagonia Lake, the next reliable fill-up heading east toward Tombstone is in Sierra Vista.

What's typically included inside a motorhome rental in Nogales?

Motorhome rental in Nogales typically comes ready to camp. Most rigs include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, plates, and utensils), a bathroom with toilet and shower, beds with linens, air conditioning and a furnace, a TV, a generator or solar setup, and seatbelted seating for everyone traveling. Many hosts also throw in a starter kit with toilet paper, soap, and basic supplies. WiFi is occasionally included but, since cell service in the Coronado National Forest can be spotty, plan on downloading entertainment in advance. Each listing on RVezy shows exactly what's included with photos. Pro tip: message the host to ask about outdoor extras like camp chairs, an awning mat, or a barbecue, many include them at no charge.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Hosts on RVezy offer a great mix of add-ons that make your Nogales RV trip easier: delivery and setup (often $2 to $4 per mile from their home base), generator hours, bike racks, paddleboards, camp chairs, BBQs, linens and kitchen kits, and even pre-stocked groceries. Pickup is straightforward, you'll meet the host at their listed location (often near I-19 in Rio Rico, Tubac, or central Nogales) for a 30 to 60 minute orientation. Mileage allowances and any pet fees are spelled out clearly on each listing before you book. Pro tip: if you're heading to Patagonia Lake or Coronado National Forest, ask the host about adding a portable solar panel since some campsites lack hookups.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment for your RV rental in Nogales is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy when you book (never directly to the host), and your payment details stay on the platform. A separate refundable security deposit is placed on your card before pickup, with the exact amount shown on the listing before you confirm. As long as you return the RV in the same condition you received it, within the agreed mileage and clean inside, the deposit is released after your trip. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, both you and your host will appreciate having a clear record, which keeps deposit returns smooth and friendly.

How do I handle the summer heat and monsoon season in a Nogales RV rental?

Summer in Nogales is more manageable than you might think, the elevation (around 3,800 feet) keeps temperatures roughly 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix, with June highs averaging 96°F and dropping to the upper 50s at night. The Arizona Monsoon arrives in early July and runs through August, bringing dramatic afternoon thunderstorms and beautiful green landscapes. Run your roof AC on shore power when possible (generators struggle with continuous AC use), drive in the morning before storms build around 2 to 4 pm, and skip washes and low-water crossings when rain is in the forecast. Pro tip: shoulder months like late September, October, March, and April offer the smart-money combo of perfect weather, lower rates, and gorgeous high-desert light, ideal for a family RV trip Nogales-style.
