2023 Coleman Travel Trailer
Jim was great, he delivered our trailer to Echo Lodge Campground on time, everything was set up, AC running, fridge was cold upon our arrival. He called me prior to us arriving and after we arrived to make sure everything was in proper working order. Trailer was roomy and clean, everything worked as it should. It was stocked with basic necessities such as plastic cups, silverware, k-cup coffee, soap, sponges and it had some bowls and plates. There was a couple pots and pans, kitchen utensils, etc. My only recommendation would be to have some extra toilet paper and cleaning supplies to keep it clean for a 7 day trip. The queen bed was very comfortable, and AC was cold. The two bunk beds were good, maybe bring a mattress topper or foam pad. The couch makes into a small bed life a child or small adult. The outdoor fridge was great, he included some extra chairs and and outdoor rug. Would definitely recommend for any family for a great time!

RV rentals in Big River, CA

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Big River, CA

How much does an RV rental in Big River, CA typically cost?

RV rentals in Big River, CA are some of the more affordable in Southern California since you are away from the higher coastal markets. On RVezy, expect roughly $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers, $120 to $220 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $350 or more for larger Class A rigs. Snowbird season (November through March) drives demand at riverfront parks, so booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead helps lock in better rates. For a cheap RV rental in Big River, look at midweek dates in late spring or early fall when hosts often drop prices and the Colorado River weather is still warm.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Big River, California?

For nearly every RV rental in Big River, your regular driver's license is all you need. California's DMV allows any housecar 40 feet or shorter to be driven on a standard Class C license, which covers virtually every camper van, travel trailer, and motorhome listed on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens right in the app, no DMV visit or extra test required. Visiting from abroad? Grab an International Driving Permit from your home auto club before you travel. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly the licensing question disappears.

What protection is included when I rent an RV in Big River, CA?

Every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head to the Colorado River with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you can pick what fits your family. Roadside help is just a phone call away whether you have a flat outside Earp, a dead battery at a Big River campground, or need a tow on Highway 95. It removes a huge worry from your motorhome rental in Big River.

What if I need to cancel my Big River RV rental?

You are not locked in the moment you book. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (hosts do not), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can change your mind without penalty. After that, the refund depends on how far out you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or provides credits. The full policy details live on RVezy's Help Center and support is available to assist if plans change. It is a low-risk way to lock in your spring Colorado River trip.

Can I bring my dog on a Big River RV trip?

Yes, Big River is a great stretch of desert for dogs. Many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Big River, and you can filter for them directly on RVezy with the Pet-Friendly toggle. Several riverside parks along the Colorado offer leashed beach access for pups. Joshua Tree National Park, about 90 minutes west, allows leashed dogs in campgrounds, picnic areas, and on paved roads, but not on trails. Pro tip: pack booties for July and August, when desert pavement and sand get dangerously hot for paws. Early morning and evening walks are the smart move.

Can a host deliver the RV to me in Big River?

Yes, RV delivery in Big River is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are flying into Las Vegas, Palm Springs, or Phoenix and prefer not to drive a rig you have never handled. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up at a riverside campsite or nearby RV park, then walk you through every system: propane, slide-outs, water hookups, and more. Just use the Delivery filter when searching listings. Delivery fees are usually charged per mile from the host's location, so listings closer to Parker, Earp, or Needles tend to offer the best value for your Big River RV trip.

How far can I drive from Big River, and what's the mileage policy?

Big River is a fantastic launchpad. You are about 35 miles north of Blythe, roughly 90 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, about 2.5 hours from Las Vegas, around 3 hours from Phoenix, and roughly 4 hours from Los Angeles. Each host sets their own mileage policy on RVezy, and many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. You will see the exact mileage allowance and per-mile overage on every listing before you book. Planning a bigger loop through Sedona or Death Valley? Message the host through the listing to discuss a mileage package that fits your route.

Where are the best campgrounds near Big River, CA?

You have great options right on the Colorado River. Several full-hookup RV parks line the California side near Big River with riverside sites, boat launches, and beach access. Across the river on the Arizona side, Buckskin Mountain State Park offers stunning canyon views with water and electric hookups. Empire Landing Campground in the Parker Strip Recreation Area gives you BLM-managed river access with hookups at a budget-friendly nightly rate. For a desert adventure, Cottonwood Campground in Joshua Tree National Park has a dump station and drinking water. Book riverside spots 2 to 3 months out for winter snowbird season.

When is the best time to visit Big River, CA in an RV?

October through April is the sweet spot for RV camping in Big River. Daytime highs typically sit between 65°F and 85°F, evenings cool into the 40s and 50s, and the Colorado River is ideal for kayaking without the summer crowds. This is exactly why snowbirds flock here from November through March. Summer (June through September) is intense, with average July highs near 107°F and frequent triple-digit days into October. If summer is your only option, plan early-morning river floats and choose an RV with reliable air conditioning. Spring break weekends in March book up fast, so reserve at least 60 days ahead.

I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting one in Big River?

You will do great. First-time renting an RV is something RVezy hosts handle every week. Every booking includes a hands-on orientation at pickup where your host walks you through driving, hookups, the propane system, slide-outs, and tank dumping. Big River itself is one of the friendlier places in California to learn, with wide rural roads, light traffic on Parker Dam Road and Highway 95, and no steep mountain passes nearby. Start with a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer if you are nervous. Pro tip: do a slow loop around your pickup location before heading out, you will feel confident in about 20 minutes.

What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

You are never on your own out there. Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat on Highway 95, a dead battery at Empire Landing, or a generator that will not start in the desert, help is one call away. Common services like tire changes, jump starts, fuel delivery, and towing are covered. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app since they know their rig best. And RVezy's support team is available around the clock to help coordinate. It is the safety net that lets you relax and float the river.

Can I take my Big River RV rental into Arizona or Nevada?

Yes, and you should. Big River sits right on the California-Arizona border, with the Colorado River separating the two states. Cross the bridge and you are in Parker, Arizona in about 10 minutes; Lake Havasu City is roughly 35 miles north, and Laughlin, Nevada is about 2 hours up Highway 95. Interstate travel within the US is covered on your RVezy rental, so an RV road trip from Big River through Arizona, Nevada, or up to Utah's national parks is on the table. The one exception: travel into Mexico is not allowed because insurance and protection coverage do not extend there.

How much will I spend on fuel for a Big River RV trip?

Fuel is one of the bigger costs to plan for, but Big River's location helps. Gas in Arizona, just across the river in Parker, is typically cheaper than California prices, so many renters fill up there. Expect 7 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class C motorhome, 8 to 13 MPG for travel trailers behind a truck, and 6 to 8 MPG for larger Class A rigs. A typical 4-night trip with 300 miles of driving usually runs $120 to $220 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: top off in Parker, AZ before heading back into California to save money.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Big River?

For riverfront full-hookup spots near Big River during snowbird season (November through March), book 2 to 4 months ahead since these fill quickly with seasonal regulars. Joshua Tree National Park campgrounds (Black Rock, Jumbo Rocks, Cottonwood, Indian Cove, Ryan, Belle, White Tank, Hidden Valley, Sheep Pass) open reservations up to 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov, and popular dates can sell out within minutes. Buckskin Mountain State Park reservations open up to a year ahead through the Arizona State Parks site. In summer, walk-ins are often available. Insider tip: set a calendar alarm for the 6-month-out mark on Recreation.gov.

What are driving conditions like around Big River, CA?

Driving around Big River is refreshingly easy compared to most of California. You are in the Mojave Desert with wide, flat two-lane highways like CA-95 and Parker Dam Road, light traffic outside of holiday weekends, and no mountain passes or tight switchbacks. Things to watch for: sudden crosswinds across open desert stretches, blowing sand near Vidal Junction, and summer heat that can stress tires, so check tire pressure every morning. Flash floods are rare but possible during July to September monsoon storms, so avoid dry washes if rain is forecast. Otherwise, this is some of the calmest RV driving in California, which is why so many first-timers love it.

What amenities will I find at Big River campgrounds?

Big River-area campgrounds are well set up for comfortable RV camping. Many riverside RV parks offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp), WiFi, laundry, boat launches, swimming beaches, and clubhouses. Most parks include dump stations and potable water fill. Joshua Tree National Park campgrounds are more primitive with no hookups, but Black Rock and Cottonwood have drinking water and dump stations, while Jumbo Rocks, Belle, White Tank, and Ryan have only pit toilets and no water. Empire Landing on the Parker Strip offers hookups and river access. Pro tip: top off your fresh water before heading into Joshua Tree, since most park campgrounds have no water available.

What's actually inside the RVs I'll find on RVezy in Big River?

You will find rigs ready for desert adventure. Most Big River listings include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, queen or king beds plus convertible dinettes, roof air conditioning (essential here), a furnace for chilly desert nights, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid time along the Parker Strip. Many include outdoor awnings, camp chairs, and even kayaks or river tubes as add-ons. WiFi hotspots and TVs are common in higher-end listings. Every listing shows exactly what is included with photos and a checklist. For families, filter by Sleeps 6+ to find rigs with bunks, perfect for a family RV trip in Big River.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Big River hosts often make trips easy with helpful extras. Popular add-ons include river tubes and kayaks, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators for boondocking, propane refills, and bedding or kitchen kits if you are flying in. Many hosts offer delivery to nearby RV parks, Empire Landing, Buckskin Mountain State Park, or even Joshua Tree campgrounds, with delivery fees usually charged per mile from the host's home base. Pickup is typically a 60- to 90-minute hands-on orientation where you will learn every system. Look for the Instant Book filter if you want to confirm immediately. Pro tip: ask about a pre-stocked propane tank, a small add-on that saves you a stop on day one.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking, never directly to the host with cash, using a credit or debit card. Your trip total includes the nightly rate, protection plan, service fee, and any add-ons you select. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before the trip starts (amounts vary by RV value) and is released back to you after a successful return with no damage. To avoid issues, do a thorough walk-through at pickup with your host, take date-stamped photos of the rig inside and out, and return it in the same condition.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

How do I handle the summer heat on a Big River RV trip?

Big River summers are genuinely hot, with July averages above 105°F and August nearly as warm, but RVs are built for it and many travelers enjoy the Colorado River in summer. Choose a rental with dual roof air conditioners (recommended for Class A and larger Class C rigs), plan to be on the river by 8 AM and back inside by midday, and park in shaded riverside sites when possible. Drink twice the water you think you need, never leave pets or kids in a parked RV, and run the generator during the hottest hours if you are off shore power. That said, October through April is the smart-money season for an RV trip in Big River.
