David was outstanding to work with from start to finish. His professionalism, communication, and attention to detail made the entire RV rental experience smooth and stress-free. The RV was exactly as described—clean, well-maintained, and ready to go. He took the time to walk me through everything and made sure I was comfortable before hitting the road. I truly appreciate the level of care he showed and would highly recommend renting from him. I’d definitely rent from David again!

Excellent Campervan Experience We recently rented a campervan to travel to Savannah and Northern Georgia. We had a great time, thanks to the excellent orientation provided by Morgan. We truly had everything we needed, from a French Press to start our days out right to a comfy bed that accommodated two adults comfortably. It was an amazing experience, with all the comforts of home while still being able to connect with nature. Morgan was a phenomenal host and we can't recommend him highly enough!

If you find yourself lucky enough to be able to book David's trailer, do it, You will not be disappointed. David is great to work with - helped us get everything set up correctly to tow ourselves and walked us through how everything works on the trailer. The trailer is so well set-up -it has everything you need but it's not cluttered leaving you plenty of space to bring in your own belongings. It was pretty cold at night when we were camping but the heater kept us toasty. the kids loved the bunk beds. The bathroom had a small tub which we didn't use but I liked knowing I could have had the kids gotten (more) muddy. We towed with a Kia Telluride - it was probably the limit of what it could tow but it did just fine for the shorter distance we were going. We probably should have just had David deliver it for us but we wanted to test out how well the Telluride towed.

We visited from Florida and decided to try out camper rental for the first time to avoid carrying so much stuff...Best decision made! Not only was the camper itself, new, very clean nice and roomy enough for three of us, but we were provided everything for cooking, cleaning and outdoor entertainment. David was very accommodating to our arrival time and with a half hour notice dropped the camper and made sure he show us how to work everything. Would highly recommend them for your next getaway adventure and looking forward to our next trip up!!! David was very friendly, responded within minutes.

RV rentals in Hiawassee, GA

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Hiawassee, GA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Hiawassee?

An RV rental in Hiawassee is one of the most affordable ways to experience the Blue Ridge Mountains. On RVezy, most travel trailers in north Georgia rent for around $90 to $160 per night, campervans and Class B rentals run about $150 to $225, and larger Class C motorhomes typically range from $175 to $300 per night, depending on age and season. Keep your trip budget friendly by booking midweek, traveling in early May or late October when the leaves are still beautiful, and filtering for travel trailers, the lowest-cost category. Many Hiawassee hosts also discount weekly stays, so a 5 to 7 night Lake Chatuge trip often unlocks the best rate.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Hiawassee, GA?

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Hiawassee. Georgia's Department of Driver Services (DDS) confirms that a standard non-commercial Class C license covers any vehicle equipped as temporary living quarters for recreational use, regardless of weight, so no Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for personal RV trips. On RVezy, you simply need to be at least 25 years old with a valid driver's license, and identity verification happens right inside the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license works perfectly. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the whole approval is, often the same day you book.

Is my RV rental in Hiawassee protected if something goes wrong?

Yes, you can book with confidence. Every RVezy booking in Hiawassee automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers most damage to the RV during your trip, so a chipped windshield on the climb up to Brasstown Bald or a scuffed bumper at the campground won't ruin your vacation. RVezy offers different protection tiers, and you choose the level of coverage during checkout based on how much peace of mind you want. It provides real financial protection so you can focus on enjoying Lake Chatuge sunsets instead of worrying about the small stuff.

What happens if I need to cancel my Hiawassee RV trip?

Booking is low risk. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period after you book so you have time to finalize plans. Beyond that grace window, refunds depend on how far out from your trip you cancel and on extenuating circumstances such as severe weather. You can review the current cancellation terms during checkout and in your RVezy account, and the support team is available if plans change. That flexibility makes it easy to lock in your Hiawassee dates now and finalize details later.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Hiawassee?

Absolutely, and Hiawassee is a fantastic dog-friendly town. Many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Hiawassee, so toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see RVs that welcome four-legged co-pilots. Once you're here, your pup will love the leash-friendly trails around the Lake Chatuge Recreation Area, the shoreline at Jackrabbit Mountain just across the North Carolina line, and the walking paths at Hamilton Gardens at Lake Chatuge. Message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and ask about cleaning expectations, this keeps your deposit safe and earns you 5-star host reviews.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Hiawassee?

Yes, RV delivery in Hiawassee is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to your campsite at Lake Chatuge Recreation Area, Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds Campground, or even a private driveway, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and enter your destination address to see hosts who serve that spot and what they charge per mile. It's the easiest way to enjoy a Hiawassee RV trip without ever towing or driving a motorhome yourself.

How does mileage work, and how far can I really drive from Hiawassee?

Most Hiawassee hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and a growing number offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for a bigger loop. You can review the mileage policy on each listing before you book. From Hiawassee you can easily reach Helen in about 35 miles, Blue Ridge in 45 miles, Asheville, North Carolina in roughly 100 miles, Great Smoky Mountains National Park in about 90 miles, and Atlanta in about 110 miles. If you're planning a longer RV road trip from Hiawassee through the Smokies, filter for unlimited-mileage listings to keep your budget predictable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hiawassee%2C%20Georgia

Where are the best campgrounds near Hiawassee for my RV?

You have some of Georgia's best lakefront and mountain campgrounds within minutes of town. Top picks for RV camping in Hiawassee include Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds Campground (189+ paved sites with Lake Chatuge views, open year-round), Lake Chatuge Recreation Area in the Chattahoochee National Forest (lakeside sites with a boat ramp), Long Ridge Campground (less than a mile from the lake with full hookups), Hiawassee KOA Holiday (pull-thru full hookup sites just outside town), and Bald Mountain Park & Camping Resort. For a quieter scene, Chatuge Woods Campground run by Towns County offers waterfront sites. Pro tip: book Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds early if you're visiting during the Georgia Mountain Fair in July or the Fall Festival in October.

When is the best time of year for a Hiawassee RV trip?

Hiawassee is beautiful nearly year-round, but the sweet spots are late April through early June and mid-September through late October. Spring brings rhododendron blooms and comfortable 65 to 75 degree days, while fall delivers excellent leaf peeping, with peak foliage usually hitting the second and third weeks of October at this elevation (around 1,900 feet). Summer highs sit in the low 80s with cool 60-degree nights thanks to the mountain elevation, much milder than Atlanta. Winters are short but chilly, with January lows around 28 degrees and occasional light snow. Book your October weekend by July, this is peak leaf season and Lake Chatuge campgrounds fill quickly.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the North Georgia mountains?

You've got this, and Hiawassee is a great place to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, propane, water, and tank dumping, so you're never left guessing. If you're nervous about mountain driving, choose a smaller Class B campervan or a 20 to 25 foot Class C motorhome for your first time renting an RV, both handle the curves on US-76 and GA-17 comfortably. Stick to main highways like US-76 between Hiawassee and Blairsville and avoid narrow forest service roads in rentals. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup so you can skip the driving entirely on your first trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirements

What happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?

You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Hiawassee booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tows. If something more complex comes up, like a propane issue at your campsite, you can also message your host directly through the RVezy app since they know their RV better than anyone. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip too. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway, cell service can be spotty on Brasstown Bald and along some Chattahoochee National Forest roads.

Can I take the RV across the North Carolina border or do a one-way road trip?

Yes, cross-border road trips are easy from Hiawassee. The Georgia and North Carolina state line is just 8 miles north of downtown, so popular routes like Hiawassee to Nantahala Lake (about 45 minutes), the Smokies via Cherokee, North Carolina (about 2 hours), and Asheville (about 2 hours) are all fair game on most RVezy listings. Travel within the United States and into Canada is generally allowed, just confirm with the host through the listing before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. One-way trips aren't standard but some hosts will consider them, message them directly to ask. Combine Hiawassee with the Blue Ridge Parkway for a stunning week-long loop.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validity

What should I budget for fuel on a Hiawassee RV trip?

Fuel is usually the second biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's very manageable here. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class C motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a campervan, and 12 to 18 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Gas prices in Towns County typically run close to or slightly above the Georgia state average, and the cheapest fill-ups are usually in Blairsville (15 miles west) or Cleveland on US-129. A typical 5-night trip exploring Lake Chatuge, Helen, and Brasstown Bald rarely uses more than 1 to 2 tanks. Top off in Blairsville before heading into the Chattahoochee National Forest, fuel options thin out on the back roads.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Hiawassee?

Plan ahead and you'll get the best sites. For summer weekends (June through August) and the October leaf-peeping rush, book at Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds Campground 3 to 6 months in advance by calling 706-896-4191. U.S. Forest Service sites like Lake Chatuge Recreation Area open reservations 6 months ahead on Recreation.gov, and lakefront spots go within minutes of release. Private parks like Hiawassee KOA, Long Ridge, and Bald Mountain Park typically open online 6 to 12 months ahead. Pro tip: weekday arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are often wide open even in peak season, a smart move if your schedule is flexible.
recreation.gov/

What are the driving conditions like around Hiawassee?

Local roads are scenic but very manageable with a little awareness. US-76 (the main route through Hiawassee) is a well-maintained two-lane mountain highway with steady grades and broad curves, perfect for RV travel. GA-17/75 south toward Helen includes some steeper sections through Unicoi Gap (elevation 2,949 feet), so shift into a lower gear on descents. Avoid narrow forest service roads in rentals, and skip the climb up Bell Mountain in anything larger than a Class B campervan, it's steep and tight. Watch for sudden fog in early mornings and occasional black ice from December through February. Pro tip: leave Atlanta before 11 a.m. on Fridays, I-985/US-23 backs up heading to the mountains.
dot.ga.gov/DriveSmart

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Hiawassee?

Most campgrounds in the Hiawassee area are well equipped for a comfortable stay. Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds offers 30/50-amp power, water, cable TV, WiFi, a boat ramp, and a dump station on site. Hiawassee KOA, Long Ridge, and Mountain View Campground provide full hookups (water, electric, sewer), bathhouses with hot showers, laundry, and fire rings. The Forest Service Lake Chatuge Recreation Area has water and electric at most sites but no sewer hookups, you'll dump at a central station. Need to top off fresh water or dump tanks between stays? The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds dump station is the most convenient in town. Pro tip: bring a 50-to-30-amp adapter just in case, older lakefront sites sometimes only offer 30-amp service.
georgiamountainfairgrounds.com/pageserver/campgrounds

What's actually inside the RVs available in Hiawassee?

Hiawassee rentals are road-trip ready and surprisingly homey. Most RVs on RVezy include a queen or king bed, a convertible dinette or bunks for kids, a full kitchen with fridge and freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Many include air conditioning (a real plus for August), a furnace for chilly mountain nights, a TV, and sometimes a generator or solar setup for off-grid lake stays. WiFi varies, so if you're working remotely, ask the host about cell signal boosters since Towns County coverage can be spotty. Seatbelts for travel typically range from 4 to 8 depending on the RV class. Filter by amenities on RVezy to find the exact features you need.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hiawassee%2C%20Georgia

What add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in Hiawassee?

Hiawassee hosts offer some genuinely useful add-ons that make your trip easier. Common ones include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, outdoor furniture, generators, bike racks, kayak or SUP racks (great for Lake Chatuge), portable fire pits, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Hiawassee, Young Harris, or Blairsville, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Many hosts also offer delivery to local campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, you'll see the exact daily allowance and per-mile overage rate on the listing page. Pro tip: add the kayak package, paddling Lake Chatuge at sunrise is the quintessential Hiawassee experience.

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy directly on the platform (no cash to the host), and your card is charged according to the schedule shown at checkout, typically a deposit at booking with the balance due before your trip starts. Each host sets a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 for Hiawassee-area rentals), which is held but not charged unless there's damage, missing items, or excessive cleaning after your trip. To keep your deposit safe, do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks before drop-off (or pay the host's dump fee). Keep receipts from your trip in case any questions come up later.

Can I rent an RV in Hiawassee in winter, and is it worth it?

Yes, and winter is a genuinely peaceful time in the North Georgia mountains. Several Hiawassee-area campgrounds stay open year-round (Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, Hiawassee KOA, and Long Ridge), and many RVezy hosts rent through the colder months. Winter daytime temps usually sit in the 40s and 50s with lows in the upper 20s, occasional light snow, and far fewer crowds at Lake Chatuge, Brasstown Bald, and the Appalachian Trail. For cold-weather comfort, look for listings with heated holding tanks, a propane furnace, and 30/50-amp shore power so you can run electric heaters. Ask the host about freeze-prevention tips for the fresh water system before you depart, this avoids hose freeze-ups overnight.
