Because the natural area is not currently open for self-guided public visits, trip timing depends on any scheduled TPWD tours, open houses, or volunteer events that may be announced. For the surrounding Hill Country region, spring from March through May brings mild temperatures and wildflowers, while fall from late September through November offers cooler days and lighter crowds. Summer heat regularly exceeds 95 F and limits hiking in this area. Winter is generally mild and can be a pleasant shoulder season for RV travel in the region.

Occasional ranger-led hikes, biological surveys, and public input events are the primary ways the public can currently experience Kronkosky. Check the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website and Hill Country regional announcements for scheduled opportunities.
Guadalupe River State Park is the nearest TPWD site with developed RV camping and miles of hiking along a scenic stretch of the river. It sits roughly 30 to 40 minutes east of Kronkosky and offers shaded sites suitable for larger rigs.
Hill Country State Natural Area near Bandera offers backcountry hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails across rugged terrain similar to Kronkosky. Day-use parking accommodates trucks and trailers at designated trailheads.
Two popular show caves near Boerne provide guided underground tours through Hill Country karst formations. Both are short drives from the Kronkosky area and have surface parking that can fit smaller RVs and tow vehicles.
Boerne is the closest full-service town for RV travelers, with Hauptstrasse lined by shops, breweries, and restaurants. Nearby Cibolo Center for Conservation offers easy nature trails and educational programs.
Quiet Hill Country back roads connect vineyards, river crossings, and small towns such as Sisterdale, Comfort, and Medina. The route is best suited to smaller motorhomes and trailers due to narrow shoulders and tight curves.
Both rivers offer easy flatwater paddling and tubing sections within a short drive of the natural area. Outfitters in Bandera and near Boerne provide kayak and tube rentals with shuttle service.
So easy that all was set up upon our arrival and ready for us! Great trailer and responses from owner was quick and informative.

We had a fantastic time camping with this camper. It was perfect for my family of 4 and really we could have had more. We will definitely be renting from Matt again. He was prompt with the setup and pick up and very easy to get ahold of. I highly recommend using them!

Kristen was a fantastic host. We arrived to everything set up and hooked up. The RV was clean and clean linens and towels were on the beds. The outdoor kitchen was perfect for breakfast and the outside fridge was used constantly. Communication was amazing. We had a flight cancelled and Kristen made it work so we didn't miss a thing.

Albert & Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area, TX, United States
The natural area sits in the Hill Country roughly 45 to 60 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio, about a one-hour drive via I-10 West and state highways through Boerne. Austin is approximately 90 miles and under two hours to the northeast, while Bandera lies about 20 miles to the southwest. San Antonio International Airport is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent RV travelers. RV drivers should note the narrow, winding FM roads in the area with sharp curves, low-water crossings that flood during heavy rain, and limited turnaround space, so large motorhomes and trailers should plan routes carefully and check conditions before travel.
