Big Knife Provincial Park, AB, Canada
Big Knife Provincial Park is located 40 km east of Stettler on Highway 12, then 20 km north on Highway 855. From Stettler, allow approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour drive time. The nearest major city is Camrose, about 88 km away, with Calgary International Airport serving as the nearest fly-and-rent option (approximately 200 km south). Highway 855 is a well-maintained rural road suitable for RVs; no tunnels, weight limits, or steep grades present significant obstacles for standard RV travel.
July and August offer the warmest weather, ranging from 21 to 24 degrees Celsius, making them ideal for water activities and hiking. June through September sees the most rainfall but also the best conditions for outdoor recreation. Shoulder months (May and September) offer quieter camping with cooler temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius during the day. This intermediate 6 km return trail climbs through mixed forest and offers viewpoints overlooking the Battle River Valley.
