Floating the Bogue Chitto River is the park's signature activity, with sandy beaches and clear, slow-moving water ideal for tubes, kayaks, and canoes. Private outfitters near the park offer shuttles and rentals. Summer weekends are busiest, so arrive early for parking.
The Gorge Trail leads through a surprisingly rugged landscape of steep ravines and cascading spring-fed creeks, unusual for south Louisiana. The short loop passes through mixed hardwood and pine forest with interpretive signage. Wear sturdy shoes as footing can be uneven after rain.
The park maintains miles of multi-use trails open to horses and hikers, winding through pine uplands and along small streams. A dedicated equestrian campground and day-use parking with trailer space serve riders. Hikers should wear blaze orange during deer season.
Two stocked fishing ponds within the park offer bank and pier access for bass, bream, and catfish. A valid Louisiana fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older. The ponds are a quiet option when the river is high or crowded.
The nature station hosts ranger-led programs covering local ecology, from longleaf pine restoration to river wildlife. Seasonal events include guided paddles and junior ranger activities. Check the park calendar on the Louisiana State Parks website before arrival.
A seasonal splash pad and multiple playgrounds provide family-friendly options near the main day-use area. The splash pad typically operates from spring through early fall. Picnic shelters and restrooms are nearby for easy RV-family outings.
Developed boat launches provide RV-friendly access to the Bogue Chitto River for motorized small craft and anglers targeting bass, sunfish, and catfish. River levels fluctuate seasonally, so check conditions before launching. Trailer parking is available at the launch areas.
Danny was a great host. Delivery and set up on time. Very friendly, and communicated in a timely manner. I will definitely rent from him in the future.

The title “Happy Glamping” is a perfect title! This truly made our trip perfect! The unit was perfect size and so clean. Had more than we needed but was great to know it was available had we needed it. Working with Mr. David and his wife was very pleasant! Will definitely rent again!

Bogue Chitto State Park, LA, United States
The park is located off LA Highway 25 near Franklinton, about 1 hour and 15 minutes north of New Orleans via I-10 and I-12, and roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes from Baton Rouge. From the Mississippi Gulf Coast, it is about 1.5 hours west. RV drivers should note narrow two-lane rural highways on the final approach, low-clearance trees at some older pull-through sites, and the causeway across Lake Pontchartrain as an alternate route with wind-related restrictions for high-profile vehicles. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY).
