Late spring through early fall is the most popular window, with May and June offering mild temperatures, blooming mountain laurel, and lower humidity before peak summer crowds arrive. July and August are the busiest months thanks to the swimming pool, creek play, and school vacation, so RV sites should be reserved well in advance. September and October deliver excellent fall foliage in the South Mountain ridges and quieter campground evenings, making them the best shoulder season for RV travel. The campground typically operates from April through late October, and winter visits are limited to day use only.

The Appalachian Trail crosses directly through Caledonia State Park, offering easy trail access right from the park. RVers can walk on for a short out-and-back or connect to longer ridge hikes in adjacent Michaux State Forest. Parking near the park office and day-use areas accommodates larger vehicles. nps.gov/appa/
The park preserves the site of the Caledonia Iron Works, the 19th-century furnace complex owned by abolitionist and congressman Thaddeus Stevens and burned by Confederate forces during the Gettysburg Campaign. Interpretive signs and the reconstructed blacksmith shop tell the story. The site sits beside the main day-use parking area.
Caledonia operates a large seasonal public swimming pool near the campground and day-use area. The pool is typically open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, weather permitting. It is a popular family activity on hot summer afternoons.
The Ramble Trail is a short, easy loop that follows Conococheague Creek past the historic iron works site and through mixed hardwood forest. It connects with the Three Valley Trail for a longer hike into the surrounding hills. Both trailheads leave from the day-use parking lots.
A public 18-hole golf course operates within the park boundary and is open to the public during the golf season. Tee times are managed by the course concessionaire. A large lot provides parking suitable for tow vehicles.
This historic summer stock theater operates inside the park and stages professional productions from June through August. Evening shows pair well with a campground stay. Dedicated theater parking is available near the playhouse.
Gettysburg National Military Park is about 15 miles east on US Route 30, making Caledonia a convenient RV base for touring the battlefield. The Museum and Visitor Center has designated RV and bus parking. Plan a full day for the auto tour route and cyclorama. nps.gov/gett/
Nick was very thorough with showing me all the features of the trailer and ensured I had no issues.

Nick is very responsive and a great communicator throughout the process. He even checked in on us during our stay to make sure everything was working and if we had any questions. Highly recommend!

I recommend this RV, driving this rig was simple and comfortable. The layout and design of the interior space was perfect and roomy. The dining set makes into a very nice long bed. I will rent this one again.

This was our first time renting an RV. Bert and Spencer made the process seamless and easy. They were extremely flexible with pick-up and drop-off, went over the full operation of the RV, and made us feel comfortable and confident. The description, booking booking process, pick-up and return went perfectly. We will definitely be renting this RV again.

Caledonia State Park, PA, United States
The park lies on US Route 30 about 15 miles east of Chambersburg and roughly 15 miles west of Gettysburg, placing most RVers within a 25 to 35 minute drive of Interstate 81 (exit 16 or 20) or US Route 15. From Harrisburg the drive is about 60 miles and 75 minutes, while Baltimore is roughly 90 miles and just under two hours. US Route 30 climbs South Mountain with curves and moderate grades between Fayetteville and the park entrance, so larger rigs should downshift and watch for the truck-warning signs. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Harrisburg International Airport (MDT), with Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) and Dulles (IAD) as larger alternatives.
