October through May offers the most comfortable weather for camping, with daytime temperatures ranging from 55 to 73 degrees Fahrenheit and minimal rainfall outside winter months. June through September brings intense heat exceeding 85 degrees, though visitor numbers drop in summer. The shoulder seasons of late spring and early fall provide moderate temperatures ideal for RV travel with fewer crowds.

A 0.8-mile wheelchair-accessible loop trail through oak forest with river views. The mostly flat compacted soil path winds through protected riparian habitat and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Observe diverse wildlife including red-tailed hawks, great blue herons, woodpeckers, wild turkeys, deer, beaver, and otter populations. The park protects habitat for endangered riparian brush rabbits and migrating species.
Cool off at two designated swim areas along the Stanislaus River: Salmon Bend Camp Beach adjacent to the campground and Willow Beach in the day-use area. Both areas are accessible from camp and day-use parking. No lifeguards on duty; life jackets are recommended.
Paddle the Stanislaus River with hand-powered watercraft only, no motorized boats permitted. Small non-motorized craft like kayaks, canoes, and tubes are ideal for exploring the river.
Explore multiple nature trails through protected oak woodland habitat, including River Bend, Hidden Lake, and Rabbit's Run trails. Routes are generally flat and accessible for various skill levels.
