Spring, from March through May, brings mild temperatures, wildflowers, and prime conditions for hiking, biking, and boating before summer heat sets in. Fall, from late September through November, is another strong window with comfortable days, lower humidity, and smaller crowds. Summer is the busiest season thanks to Joe Pool Lake swimming and boating, but daytime highs regularly exceed 95 F, so RVers should plan for shaded sites and electric hookups to run air conditioning. Winter stays mostly mild and the park remains open year-round, though cold fronts can bring freezing nights.

Joe Pool Lake is a 7,400-acre reservoir offering boating, waterskiing, and fishing for largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie. The park has two lighted boat ramps, a fishing jetty, and a fish-cleaning station with RV-friendly parking nearby.
The DORBA Trail is a 12-mile network of single-track loops maintained by the Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association. Routes are rated beginner to advanced and share a trailhead with a large parking area that accommodates trucks with bike trailers.
Penn Farm is a restored 1859 farmstead with original and reconstructed outbuildings interpreting Texas farming history. A short walking loop with interpretive signage starts from a day-use parking lot suitable for larger vehicles.
These hiking trails wind through Cross Timbers woodland and along the shoreline, offering birdwatching and lake views. Combined loops range from about 1 to 3 miles on mostly level, natural-surface tread.
A designated swim beach on Joe Pool Lake offers sandy shoreline, picnic tables, and grills with nearby restrooms. The day-use lot has pull-through spaces usable by tow vehicles after dropping the trailer at camp.
The park sits along a migration corridor and hosts herons, egrets, waterfowl, hawks, and seasonal songbirds. Shoreline overlooks and the Duck Pond area are top spots, reachable from paved roads with nearby parking.
Shaded picnic areas with tables, grills, and shelters are scattered along the shoreline and near the swim beach. Several shelters can be reserved in advance and are close to accessible restrooms and RV-friendly parking.

Cedar Hill State Park, TX, United States
Cedar Hill State Park is located off FM 1382 in Cedar Hill, Texas, roughly 20 miles southwest of downtown Dallas and about 25 miles southeast of Fort Worth, an easy 30 to 45 minute drive from either city. From I-20, exit onto FM 1382 south and follow signs to the park entrance. There are no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades to worry about, but RVers should watch for heavy DFW metro traffic and low-clearance underpasses on surface streets outside the park. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, about 35 miles north.
