Late April through early June is ideal, when snowmelt and spring rains push the waterfalls to peak flow and temperatures are comfortable for canyon hiking. September and October offer crisp weather, strong fall color in the hardwood forest, and smaller crowds at the campground. Midsummer is warm and humid with lighter falls, while winter brings icy trails and potential trail closures along the steep canyon routes. RV travelers should target shoulder seasons for easier campground reservations and cooler driving conditions on the hilly approaches.

Big Clifty Falls is the park's signature waterfall, viewable from an accessible overlook near the main park road. The short paved approach makes it one of the easiest waterfall stops for RV travelers with limited time.
Trail 2 descends into the canyon to reach Tunnel Falls, one of the park's tallest cascades. The route is steep and rocky with stair sections, rewarding hikers with close-up falls views and shaded creek scenery.
The canyon bottom trails follow Clifty Creek through a fossil-rich streambed flanked by high cliffs. Footing can be uneven with boulder hopping, so sturdy shoes are essential.
Trail 5 leads to Hoffman Falls on a moderate out-and-back walk through mixed hardwood forest. It offers a quieter alternative to the busier Big Clifty area.
A short walk leads to remnants of an unfinished 1850s railroad tunnel within the park. Visitors can no longer walk through the tunnel, but informational signs along the trail explain the history of the tunnel and the other railroad remnants known as Brough's Folly.
The bluff near Clifty Inn offers panoramic views of the Ohio River and the town of Madison below. It is a quick stop with ample parking and is popular at sunset.
The park nature center offers exhibits on local geology, wildlife, and canyon ecology, and the seasonal swimming pool is a summer draw for families. Both are located near the campground loop for easy access from RV sites.
First time we've rented an RV and James took total care of us the whole way from beginning to the end. He explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. It was the best experience I could have imagined for being the first time. Would highly recommend and rent from him again.

Clifty Falls State Park, IN, United States
The park sits just west of Madison, Indiana, off State Road 56 and State Road 62, about 55 miles (1 hour) northeast of Louisville, Kentucky, 90 miles (about 1.75 hours) southeast of Indianapolis, and 75 miles (about 1.5 hours) west of Cincinnati, Ohio. RV drivers should expect winding, hilly two-lane roads on the final approach, steep grades inside the park on the scenic drive, and tight turns near overlooks, so larger rigs should use the main park entrance and avoid the secondary overlook spurs when possible. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent travelers are Louisville Muhammad Ali International (SDF) and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International (CVG).
