East Harbor State Park, OH, United States
East Harbor State Park sits on the Marblehead Peninsula about 20 minutes east of Port Clinton and roughly an hour (60 miles) southeast of Toledo via Ohio Route 2 and Route 269. From Cleveland, it is about 75 miles west, a 90-minute drive along Interstate 90 and Route 2. RV drivers should watch for the Edison Bridge approach and seasonal lakeshore winds that can affect high-profile vehicles; there are no tunnels or major grades on the route. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Cleveland Hopkins International (CLE), with Toledo Express (TOL) and Detroit Metro (DTW) as alternatives.
Late May through early September is the best window for RV travel, with warm Lake Erie temperatures, open beaches, and a full slate of park programming. June and September offer a quieter shoulder-season experience with cooler nights and fewer crowds, while spring and fall bring strong birdwatching during Lake Erie migrations. Winters are cold and windy off the lake, with limited camping services; travelers should confirm campground dates before arrival.

East Harbor Beach is a 1,500-foot guarded sand beach on Lake Erie with a dedicated swimming area, bathhouse, and picnic facilities. Ample paved parking nearby accommodates tow vehicles and RV day-use visitors.
Red Bird Trail is a flat, roughly 1.5-mile loop winding through woodland and wetland habitat that connects the campground to the beach area. It is well suited for casual walks and birdwatching.
Middle Harbor is a no-wake, protected inland lagoon managed as a wildlife refuge and one of Ohio's premier migratory bird stopovers. Observation decks along the shoreline provide views of herons, egrets, waterfowl, and eagles.
A multi-lane boat ramp and marina provide direct access to West Harbor and Lake Erie, including routes to Put-in-Bay and Kelleys Island. Kayakers favor the sheltered waters of Middle Harbor and East Harbor.
The park is a prime launching point for Lake Erie's famed walleye and yellow perch fisheries. Shore anglers can also fish from designated piers and breakwalls inside the harbors.
East Harbor offers several miles of interconnected hiking and mountain biking trails through forest, dune, and marsh ecosystems. Trailheads near the campground and day-use areas offer vehicle parking.
Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, about 10 minutes away, is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes. A paved lot near the point accommodates larger vehicles during non-peak hours.
