Late May through mid-October is the best window for RV travel, since the Laurel Lake campground and beach operate on a seasonal schedule that roughly spans Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day. July and August bring warm swimming weather and peak campground use, while September and early October offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and vivid fall foliage across the Pioneer Valley. Spring shoulder season can be muddy and many facilities remain closed until the campground opens. Winter is quiet, with trails used for snowmobiling, but overnight camping is not available.

Laurel Lake has a sandy DCR-managed swimming beach with a roped-off area, changing facilities, and picnic tables. The beach is a short walk from the campground and day-use parking area, making it easy for RV visitors to access.
Laurel Lake is open to non-motorized and low-horsepower boating and is stocked for warm-water fishing. A cartop launch near the campground accommodates canoes, kayaks, and small fishing boats.
A short hiking loop circles Laurel Lake through hemlock and mixed hardwood forest. It is a family-friendly walk with lake views and connects to the day-use and campground areas.
Hermit Mountain is a forested ridge inside Erving State Forest reached by a moderate out-and-back hike. The trail climbs through mixed woods to viewpoints overlooking the Millers River valley.
Erving State Forest maintains a network of multi-use woods roads and trails open to mountain biking, hiking, and, in winter, snowmobiling. Trails vary from flat logging roads to rolling singletrack.
The day-use area near the beach offers picnic tables, grills, and restrooms in a shaded lakeside setting. Parking accommodates standard vehicles and smaller RVs visiting for the day.
The Millers River runs along the southern edge of Erving and is a regional draw for trout fishing and paddling. Several pull-offs along Route 2 provide river access a short drive from the forest.

Erving State Forest, MA, United States
Erving State Forest sits off Route 2 (the Mohawk Trail) in Erving, MA, about 10 miles east of Greenfield and roughly a 35 to 40 minute drive from Interstate 91. Boston is approximately 90 miles and 2 hours east via Route 2, while Hartford, CT is about 70 miles south via I-91 and Route 2. RVers should note that Route 2 through the Mohawk Trail corridor includes winding sections and steep grades west of Greenfield, so drivers of larger rigs may prefer approaching from the east or via I-91. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Bradley International (BDL) near Hartford, about 75 miles south.
