Late May through September offers the warmest, driest weather and the best ferry and paddling conditions on Denman Island. July and August are peak season with the campground typically full, so reservations are essential. Shoulder months of May, June, and September bring fewer crowds, milder temperatures, and easier ferry loading for larger RVs. Fall brings vivid colour through the park's deciduous canopy, while winter is wet and quiet.

The Homestead Trail is a short loop past the remains of the Beadnell estate, including George Beadnell's gravesite and heritage trees imported from England. The route crosses the grassy meadow that was once a bowling green and offers easy walking from the parking area. bcparks.ca/fillongley-park/
A walking trail heads west from the parking area and follows Beadnell Creek canyon through lush second-growth forest. It connects to Swan Road, with about a 30-minute one-way walk, and visitors can loop back via Beadnell Road. bcparks.ca/fillongley-park/
Paddlers can launch canoes and kayaks directly from the beach to explore the waters around Denman Island and Hornby Island. Calm summer mornings are best for crossing Lambert Channel. bcparks.ca/fillongley-park/
The park offers opportunities for saltwater fishing from shore or by boat. Anglers must hold a valid licence and follow provincial and federal regulations issued by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. bcparks.ca/fillongley-park/
Little George Creek flows through the park and is a salmon spawning stream. Visitors can walk the trails in autumn to observe returning salmon while respecting the delicate riparian habitat. bcparks.ca/fillongley-park/
Boyle Point Park on the southern tip of Denman Island offers a 1.5 km forested trail to viewpoints over Baynes Sound and Chrome Island Lighthouse. Seals, sea lions, bald eagles and seabirds are commonly spotted. bcparks.ca/boyle-point-park/
Cyclists can tour Denman Island's quiet rural roads from the park; bicycles must keep to roadways within Fillongley. Helmets are mandatory in British Columbia and e-bikes are not permitted on park trails. bcparks.ca/fillongley-park/

We loved our trip up Vancouver Island, and across to Quadra and Cortes islands too. Having an RV , along with our bikes (we brought our hitch bike rack), meant we had a lot of flexibility. Our little dogs had a blast too. At the pickup, Jessica explained how everything worked, and urged us to reach out with any questions during our trip. When we did have a question, she was very quick to respond. Returning the RV was also very easy, and Jessica was flexible with the time. She appreciated that we returned the RV clean. Would absolutely recommend Jessica and her RV to anyone considering a trip on Vancouver Island.

Great hosts. Friendly and responsive. Trailer was exactly as described and had everything we needed for our 5 night stay. The king bed was comfy, my kids complained a bit about the bunk mattresses, they were a little thin.

Fillongley Provincial Park, BC, Canada
Fillongley Park is reached via the Denman Island Ferry from Buckley Bay, off Highway 19A on central Vancouver Island, with access from Highway 19 at exit 101. Once on the island, visitors follow Denman Road to Swan Road, turn left, then right onto Beadnell Road. From Nanaimo the drive to Buckley Bay is roughly 100 km (about 1 hour 15 minutes), and Courtenay is about 20 minutes north; the nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Comox Valley Airport (YQQ). RV travellers should note the short BC Ferries crossing has vehicle length and height considerations, and island roads are narrow with tight turns onto Swan and Beadnell Roads.
