July and August are peak season and can be busy around concert weekends, so arriving early helps with parking. Guided tours take visitors through the largest coastal fortification in the United States, including tunnels, bastions, and officers' quarters. The fort was active from the early 1800s through World War II and overlooks the entrance to Narragansett Bay.
A flat perimeter path follows the peninsula with panoramic views of Newport Harbor, the Pell Bridge, and passing sailboats. Benches and picnic lawns are spaced along the route.
Sail Newport, the public sailing center based at the park, offers kayak and sailboat rentals and lessons on Newport Harbor. It is one of the busiest public sailing facilities in the Northeast.
The Victorian-era house served as a presidential summer retreat and now sits on a bluff above the harbor. The surrounding lawn is a popular picnic spot with bay views.
The park grounds host the Newport Folk Festival and Newport Jazz Festival each summer, two of the longest running music festivals in the country. Tickets and parking sell out well in advance.
Open lawns along the water offer shaded picnic areas with direct views of Newport Harbor and downtown Newport. Tables and grills are available on a first come basis.
The park sits at the start of Newport's 10-mile Ocean Drive, a designated National Historic District passing Brenton Point, Castle Hill Lighthouse, and Gilded Age mansions. The route is RV-friendly with several pullouts for photos.

Fort Adams State Park, RI, United States
The park is about 35 miles south of Providence via RI-138 East and the Pell (Newport) Bridge, roughly a 45 to 60 minute drive. Boston is approximately 75 miles north, about 1.5 to 2 hours by car, and New York City is around 180 miles, a 3.5 to 4 hour drive. RV drivers should note that the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge is a high suspension span with crosswinds and a toll, and Newport's downtown streets are narrow and congested, so approaching from Ocean Drive or Harrison Avenue is easier for larger rigs. The closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is T.F. Green International Airport in Warwick, Rhode Island, about 30 miles away.
