July and August are the best months for RV travel to Makwa Lake, with warm daytime temperatures, swimmable lake water, and all campground services operating. Late June and early September make a quieter shoulder season with cooler nights and fewer crowds, ideal for fishing and hiking. Winter brings heavy snow and deep cold, and most campground services are closed, so RV visits are typically limited to the warm-weather season from mid-May through mid-September.

Makwa Lake Provincial Park offers several sandy, shallow beaches along its chain of lakes that warm up quickly in summer. Designated swim areas are a short walk from campground loops and have day-use parking suitable for tow vehicles.
The park's lakes are popular for walleye, northern pike, and perch fishing from boat or shore. Boat launches and a marina provide easy water access for anglers travelling with trailers.
Interconnected channels between the lakes make Makwa a favourite for motorboats, canoes, and kayaks. Launches have trailer parking, and calmer bays are well suited to beginner paddlers.
A short drive from the park, Steele Narrows Provincial Park commemorates the last armed conflict of the 1885 North-West Resistance. The site includes interpretive signage, a viewpoint, and a day-use area with room for larger vehicles.
Short interpretive and nature trails wind through aspen, spruce, and birch forest around the campgrounds. Trails are mostly flat and suitable for casual hikers and families.
The park's mix of wetlands, lakes, and boreal forest supports moose, white-tailed deer, beaver, loons, and a variety of songbirds and waterfowl. Early morning and dusk are the best times for sightings from pullouts and trailheads.
Paved and gravel park roads connect campgrounds, beaches, and day-use areas, offering easy cycling for families. Riders should watch for vehicle traffic during peak summer weekends.
This is our second year renting from Linda and George, delivery, set up and the unit is always on par. Communicating with them is great. Looking forward to another camping season

Linda and George were amazing. The RV was exactly as described, we loved the little fridge outside in the storage section, it could be used as a freezer and perfect for those extra items. The shower was nice and big and my daughter loved having that. We appreciated the items like soap, towels, garbage bags. Linda and George were really accommodating with delivery and pick up. We had an amazing trip and would rent from them in a heartbeat. Thank you so much for the holiday.

Makwa Lake Provincial Park, SK, Canada
The park is reached via Highway 26 from the village of Loon Lake, approximately 70 kilometres north of the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16) at Maidstone. From Lloydminster the drive is roughly 160 kilometres and takes about two hours; from Saskatoon it is approximately 350 kilometres or four hours. Roads are paved prairie and parkland highways with no major mountain passes, tunnels, or steep grades, though RVers should watch for wildlife at dawn and dusk and for gravel sections on the final park access road. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport.
