Late June through early September offers the most reliable weather, with warm, dry days, calm water in Case Inlet, and good conditions for paddling and beach visits. July and August are peak months for boating traffic and moorage buoys. May, June, and September are strong shoulder options with fewer boats and cooler temperatures, though spring can still be wet.
Cool, wet, and windy. Island is open but crossings can be rough; few boaters visit.

Peak boating season; moorage buoys fill quickly on weekends.
Warmest, driest month; popular with day boaters.
Crowds thin; still comfortable for paddling.

Winter weather; check marine forecast before any crossing.
McMicken Island's beaches are the main draw at low tide, exposing cobble flats, eelgrass, and intertidal life along roughly 1.3 miles of shoreline. Sea stars, crabs, and shellfish are common finds. Check tide tables and tread carefully.
A short forested loop trail traces the island's interior through second-growth Douglas fir and madrone. The walk takes under an hour and offers quiet viewpoints of Case Inlet.
Paddlers commonly launch from nearby Harstine Island access points and cross Case Inlet to reach McMicken. The crossing is short in calm weather but requires attention to tides, boat traffic, and wind.
Mooring buoys off the island's north and south shores serve day-use boaters and overnighters. There is no dock, so shore access is by dinghy or by beaching a kayak.
Clam and oyster harvesting is permitted in season on designated state tidelands, subject to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife rules and current health advisories. Always check the shellfish safety map before collecting.
Harbor seals, bald eagles, herons, and a range of shorebirds are regularly seen along the island's edges. Bring binoculars and scan rocky points and eelgrass beds.
RV travelers often base at Jarrell Cove State Park on Harstine Island and paddle or boat across to McMicken for the day. Jarrell Cove offers campsites, a dock, and restrooms, making it a practical staging point for an RV trip.
Really great RV that was easy to drive and worked really well. Lots of space with the pop out, AC blows cold and the heating is warm. Was very comfortable the whole time. Steve the host is great and took the time to show me how everything worked in detail and had me completely comfortable to go on my trip. Canโt recommend this rental enough. Thank you.

We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are โroughing itโ. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!

McMicken Island Marine State Park, WA, United States
There is no road to McMicken Island; RV travelers drive to a launch point on Harstine Island or the mainland, then paddle or boat across Case Inlet. Olympia is about a 40 to 50 minute drive (roughly 30 miles) via State Route 3 and the Harstine Island Bridge, and Tacoma is roughly 1 hour away. The Harstine Island Bridge has standard clearance and accepts typical RV rigs, but the two-lane county roads approaching the launches are narrow and winding, so slow travel is advised for larger motorhomes and trailers. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Seattle-Tacoma International, about a 90 minute drive north.
