Summer (June through August) offers warm temperatures and accessible trails, though July is the wettest month. Shoulder seasons of May and September provide pleasant weather with fewer visitors. Winter (December through March) transforms the park into a premier snowshoeing and backcountry skiing destination, with the Vallée des Fantômes accessible via snowcat shuttle. The main camping season runs mid-May through mid-October, while light camping and winter activities continue through March.

The 3-kilometre trail to the park's highest point at 984 metres offers commanding views of the Monts Valin, surrounding lowlands, and the Saguenay fjord. The 320-metre elevation gain presents moderate difficulty accessible from the Pic-de-la-Hutte parking area.
The Valley of the Ghosts showcases ice-encased trees resembling mummies, created by heavy snow and rime ice. Accessible December to March via 45-minute Snowcat shuttle departing twice daily, it offers premier snowshoeing in a stunning winter landscape.
The park features alpine lakes and rivers suitable for multi-day canoe camping or day trips. Brook trout fishing is available throughout the park's waterways, with guided packages and day-fishing options. Both activities combine outdoor recreation with wildlife viewing opportunities.
Over 6 metres of annual snowfall creates ideal conditions for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on maintained trails. Backcountry options with hut-to-hut itineraries suit experienced skiers seeking multi-day winter adventures.
The park supports caribou, black bears, gray wolves, and over 130 bird species in a diverse boreal forest. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound along trails and near lakes, especially during dawn and dusk hours.
The Discovery and Visitors Centre features exhibits on local ecology, wildlife, and park history. Easy interpretive trails nearby introduce visitors to the landscape without requiring backcountry experience, with ample day-use parking and EV charging available.
