Late spring through early fall is the most popular window, with April and May bringing mild temperatures and wildflowers and September and October delivering comfortable days and fall color across the Appalachian foothills. Summer is warm and humid with the busiest campground demand, so midweek stays help RV travelers secure preferred sites. Winter visits are quieter, but overnight lows can dip below freezing and some amenities, including the swim pool and seasonal concessions, are closed.

Panther Creek State Park maintains a network of multi-use trails through hardwood forest with Cherokee Lake overlooks. Trails range from easy lakeside walks to longer forested loops suitable for a full day outing.
The park is well known for its singletrack mountain biking. Riders can access a network of trails that wind through ridges and coves, with staging areas that accommodate vehicle parking.
Cherokee Lake is a large Tennessee Valley Authority reservoir offering open water for powerboating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. A park boat ramp provides easy launching for day trips on the reservoir.
Anglers target largemouth and smallmouth bass, striped bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill on Cherokee Lake. Shoreline access and a boat ramp within the park make fishing easy for RV campers.
A seasonal swimming pool and shaded picnic areas provide a family-friendly base for summer visitors. Operating hours are limited to the warm-weather months.
Dedicated equestrian trails traverse wooded ridges in the park. Riders should confirm current trail status and staging access before arrival.
Mixed hardwood forest and lake edges attract songbirds, raptors, waterfowl, and white-tailed deer. Quiet early-morning walks from the campground often produce the best sightings.

Panther Creek State Park, TN, United States
The park sits near Morristown, Tennessee, roughly a 45 minute drive from Knoxville and about an hour from the Tri-Cities (Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol), via Interstate 40 and US 11E. For fly-and-rent trips, McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in Knoxville is the closest major airport. RVers should expect rolling terrain, a few short grades on the final approach roads near the lake, and tight turns at the park entrance, so slower speeds and route scouting are recommended for larger rigs.
