Best time to visit Patapsco Valley State Park

Late April through June and September through October offer the most comfortable weather for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and vibrant foliage. Summer months bring warm, humid days and the busiest campground demand, so midweek arrivals help avoid crowds at Hollofield and Hilton. Winter camping is limited as most campsites close seasonally, though day-use trails remain open. Spring river flows make the Patapsco especially scenic for paddling and waterfall viewing.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to rent from Vanessa! The camper van is so clean and has everything you could imagine. Our trip was a bit last minute, yet Vanessa was gracious and accommodating to our requests. It ended up being a very special trip and we owe a large portion of it to having this camper van! Thank you again!!

Patapsco Valley State Park, MD, United States

How to get to Patapsco Valley State Park

The park sits roughly 10 to 15 miles southwest of downtown Baltimore and about 35 miles northeast of Washington, D.C., with most recreation areas reached via I-95, I-695, I-70, or US-40. Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Airport is about 15 minutes from the Avalon and Hilton areas, making it a practical fly-and-rent option. RV drivers should avoid the narrow, low-clearance River Road through the Avalon valley in larger rigs and use the main entrances off US-40 (Hollofield) or Rolling Road (Hilton) instead. Expect steep, winding park roads and some tight turns; rigs over 35 feet should confirm site dimensions before booking.
