Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the best conditions for saltwater activities, with daytime highs typically in the 70s Fahrenheit. Peak summer weekends book up quickly, so midweek stays are easier to reserve. May, early June, and September are attractive shoulder-season windows for RV travel, with milder crowds and lower rainfall than the deep winter months. Fall and winter visits are possible year-round but bring frequent rain and cool temperatures typical of western Washington.

The park's saltwater beach on Hood Canal is the main draw for most visitors. Low tides reveal tidepools, shellfish beds, and driftwood, with views across the canal to the Olympic Mountains.
Potlatch is a popular shellfish harvesting beach when seasons are open. Visitors need a current Washington shellfish/seaweed license and should check Department of Fish and Wildlife rules and biotoxin closures before digging.
The sheltered waters of Hood Canal offer calm conditions for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Paddlers can launch from the park's day-use beach and explore the shoreline south toward Annas Bay.
Hood Canal is one of the Pacific Northwest's premier cold-water dive destinations, with visibility often best in winter months. The park's easy beach access makes it a common staging area for shore dives.
Lake Cushman and the Staircase entrance to Olympic National Park are about a 30 to 40-minute drive north via Hoodsport. The area offers swimming, old-growth forest hikes along the Skokomish River, and mountain views.
The park's day-use area has picnic tables, grills, and a shelter overlooking the canal. It is a convenient stop for RVers traveling the Hood Canal loop even without an overnight stay.
Hood Canal supports bald eagles, great blue herons, harbor seals, and occasional sightings of orcas and otters. Early morning along the shoreline is the best time to spot activity.
Really great RV that was easy to drive and worked really well. Lots of space with the pop out, AC blows cold and the heating is warm. Was very comfortable the whole time. Steve the host is great and took the time to show me how everything worked in detail and had me completely comfortable to go on my trip. Can’t recommend this rental enough. Thank you.

Don and his wife were great hosts! The RV was in great condition, ran well, and they were both easy to communicate with. We were happy to see they even provided amenities such as kitchen appliances, plates, utensils, chairs and a BBQ. We would definitely go through them on our next trip if the RV is available!

The Leggs were really great and we appreciated the supplies that were included. There were camp chairs and even an outdoor grill.

Potlatch State Park, WA, United States
The park sits on U.S. Highway 101 about 3 miles south of Hoodsport, roughly 20 minutes north of Shelton and about 2 hours (approximately 75 miles) from Seattle via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and Highway 16. From Olympia it is about a 50-minute drive (around 40 miles) north on Highway 101. The route is RV-friendly with no tunnels or low clearances, though drivers should expect rolling grades, narrow shoulders, and occasional log trucks on Highway 101. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA), about 90 miles east.
