Late May through September offers the warmest, most reliable weather for boating, swimming, and lake-based recreation. June and early July tend to be peak season with full campground use, family events, and long daylight hours. September and early October bring cooler nights, fewer bugs, and fall color across the oak and maple stands, making shoulder season ideal for RV travelers seeking quieter sites. Winter visits are possible for day use, but expect cold temperatures and limited services.

Rock Creek Lake is the park's centerpiece and a well-known central Iowa fishing destination. Anglers target largemouth bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish from boats, jetties, and the shoreline.
The reservoir offers open water for motorboats, pontoons, kayaks, and canoes with a maximum speed limit that keeps the lake family friendly. Public boat ramps with trailer parking make launching straightforward for RV travelers towing small boats.
The park's designated sandy swim beach is a popular summer gathering spot on warm afternoons. Nearby picnic tables and shade trees make it easy to spend a full day lakeside.
Short hiking trails wind through timber and along the lakeshore, offering easy walks with lake views. Trails are generally mellow and suitable for most fitness levels.
Open picnic areas and reservable shelters sit near the lake and the beach. The sites are convenient for midday stops and family gatherings while touring central Iowa.
The mix of prairie, timber, and open water attracts white-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, and migrating songbirds. Early morning and evening at the lake edges offer the best viewing opportunities.
When the lake freezes safely, Rock Creek Lake draws ice anglers targeting panfish and walleye. Day-use access remains open in winter even when the modern campground is closed.
Jerry went above & beyond from start to finish. The camper was well stocked and everything worked! We would definitely rent from him again. Jerry is great- this app not so great.
Robert H. - Sep 2024
Jerry exceeded our expectations with the delivery and set up of our camper. He was there early with the ac on and cold water in the fridge! He explained how to use everything inside and out, from the stove, water supply, propane, extra supplies and even provided extra treats and a fresh flower bouquet! He was easy to communicate with, knowledgeable about the campground and even checked in later in our stay to make sure we didn’t need anything. We’ll definitely be renting again from Jerry in the near future!! Thank you again for making our long getaway weekend so enjoyable!
