Russian Gulch State Park, CA, United States
Russian Gulch State Park is located 2 miles north of Mendocino on Highway 1. From San Francisco, allow 4 to 5 hours for the scenic drive of approximately 166 miles. From Fort Bragg, it is just 7 miles south. RV renters should be aware that Highway 1 between Fort Bragg and San Francisco features sharp curves, narrow sections, and steep grades unsuitable for RVs longer than 24 feet. Consider flying into San Francisco or Sonoma County Airport and renting an RV there if traveling from farther away.
The best time to visit Russian Gulch State Park is May through September, when the campground is open and reservations are available. July and August offer the warmest temperatures and driest conditions, though coastal fog is common in summer mornings. April and October provide pleasant shoulder-season weather with fewer crowds. Note that overnight camping closes October through April, though day-use access remains available year-round. Winter months bring heavy rain and challenging Highway 1 driving conditions that may impact road access.
