Saskatoon Island is a federal migratory bird sanctuary supporting songbirds, owls, raptors, Canada geese, and numerous waterfowl species. The diverse forest and wetland habitat makes it one of northern Alberta's premier birdwatching destinations. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatoon_Island_Provincial_Park
The park's forest and wetland habitat support moose, white-tailed deer, beaver, muskrat, weasels, snowshoe hares, and coyotes. Early morning or evening visits offer the best chances for wildlife observation throughout the park.
Saskatoon Lake offers calm waters ideal for paddling. Launch a kayak or canoe from the day-use area to explore the shoreline, observe waterfowl, and experience wildlife from the water during summer months.
Winter visitors can enjoy 6.4 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails. The park maintains detailed winter trail maps available for download, making it accessible for skiers of varying experience levels.
The park was named for its abundance of Saskatoon berry bushes, which ripen in early summer. Visitors can pick fresh berries during peak season or visit local farmers' markets for harvested berries.
