Late May through early October is the most comfortable window, with warm days, open campground access, and full interpretive programs at the shot tower. June and September strike the best balance of mild weather and lighter crowds, while July and August can be hot and humid. October brings strong fall color across the Driftless bluffs, but overnight temperatures drop quickly and rustic facilities scale back as the season ends.

The park's centerpiece is the restored 1830s shot tower complex, where molten lead was dropped through a vertical shaft to form lead shot. A short trail and stairway lead from the bluff top down to the smelter house at the base, with interpretive signs explaining the process.
Several short hiking loops wind across the wooded ridge above the Wisconsin River. Trails connect the campground, picnic area, and shot tower, passing oak and hickory forest with seasonal wildflowers.
Tower Hill provides easy access to the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway, a long stretch of free-flowing river popular for canoeing, kayaking, and sandbar camping. Paddlers can launch nearby and float downstream past forested banks and sandstone bluffs.
The day-use picnic area sits on the bluff with shaded tables and grills overlooking the river valley. It is a convenient stop for RV travelers passing through the Spring Green area.
Anglers can fish from the riverbank or by boat for smallmouth bass, walleye, catfish, and panfish. A valid Wisconsin fishing license is required.
Tower Hill is a short drive from two of Wisconsin's top attractions: Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin estate and the House on the Rock complex. Both make easy half-day side trips from the campground.
The mix of river bottom, prairie remnants, and bluff forest attracts a wide variety of birds, including bald eagles, wild turkeys, and migrating warblers. Early mornings on the bluff trails are especially productive.
Ross was great to work with & the experience exceeded our expectations! He was very accommodating with pick up- we live out of state and ran into unexpected delays on our way to pick up. The rental was very clean, came stocked with anything we needed, and was a very pleasant experience. We will be repeat renters!

Tower Hill State Park, WI, United States
The park sits just off State Highway 23, about 3 miles southeast of Spring Green and roughly 40 miles (about 50 minutes) west of Madison. From Milwaukee plan on about 120 miles (around 2 hours 15 minutes) via I-94 and US-12, and from Chicago about 200 miles. Roads in are paved two-lane rural highways with no tunnels or major mountain grades, but the campground access road is narrow, hilly, and tree-lined, so larger rigs should approach with care. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) in Madison.
