Turlock Lake State Recreation Area, CA, United States
Turlock Lake is 25 miles east of Modesto, California. From Modesto, take Highway 132 East for 14 miles to Waterford, then turn right on Hickman Road for 1 mile, and follow Lake Road for 10 miles to the park entrance. The nearest major airport is Modesto Regional Airport, approximately 45 miles west. Note: The park is temporarily closed; contact Stanislaus County Parks at (209) 874-2056 for current reopening status before planning your trip.
Turlock Lake is temporarily closed. When reopened, June through September provides the warmest, driest weather ideal for water sports and camping. May and October offer pleasant temperatures with fewer crowds and lower booking pressure. After Labor Day through October is considered one of the most ideal seasons, combining mild weather with lighter visitor loads.

Turlock Lake and the adjacent Tuolumne River offer year-round fishing opportunities. Common catches include trout, black bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. California fishing license required.
Launch boats from the park's boat ramps for boating, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, and wakeboarding. Boating hours are 8 a.m. to sunset with no overnight moorings.
Scenic hiking trail along the lakeshore offering views of the water and surrounding landscape. Well-maintained path suitable for various fitness levels.
Designated swimming areas provide safe water access during warm months. Lifeguards may not be present, so swim at your own discretion.
The park supports diverse bird species and wildlife along the Tuolumne River corridor. Bring binoculars for excellent viewing opportunities, especially during migration seasons.
Numerous picnic areas throughout the park with tables, fire rings, and scenic locations along the water. Ideal for family gatherings and outdoor meals.
