Whitney Lakes Provincial Park, AB, Canada
Whitney Lakes is 24 km east of Elk Point via Highway 646, approximately 2.5 to 3 hours northeast of Edmonton International Airport. The nearest towns are Elk Point and St. Paul. Highway 646 is well-maintained but narrow in sections; RVs over 40 feet may find maneuvering challenging at some campground entrances. No special weight restrictions or tunnels affect the main approach route.
The ideal time for RV camping is July through August, when temperatures peak around 23°C (73°F) and all park facilities are fully operational. June offers pleasant weather but higher precipitation, while May and September are excellent shoulder seasons with mild temperatures, fewer crowds, and open campgrounds. Winter visitors can access trails for cross-country skiing and ice fishing, though campgrounds close from October through mid-May.

Over 30 km of interconnected trails link the four lakes, winding through dense forests and along scenic shorelines. Trails range from short walks accessible from either campground to longer backcountry routes, with wildlife viewing opportunities for moose, deer, and black bear. Whitney, Ross, and Laurier lakes permit motorized boats, with designated boat launches at each lake. Borden Lake is reserved for non-motorized craft including canoes and kayaks. Over 145 bird and waterfowl species have been recorded in the park's wetlands and forests, making it a premier destination for ornithologists and casual bird watchers. Jobit dropped off and had the RV set up in no time. Perfect space for my family of six. We used it for a place to sleep, and not really for the other amenities, although they all were fully functional. Took a lot of the stress away of trying to find accommodations on the St Paul area.
