Late April through early June and September into mid-October are generally the most comfortable times to visit, with mild temperatures, active fishing, and fewer biting insects. Midsummer brings warm, humid weather that is popular for boating and swimming but can be busy on holiday weekends. Shoulder-season RV travel benefits from open campsites, cooler nights for sleeping without heavy AC use, and fall color along the lake. Winter is quiet, with limited services and cold, often wet conditions.

Yatesville Lake is a bass-focused fishery with largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish across roughly 2,300 acres of water. Shoreline and boat fishing are both popular, with quieter coves toward the upper end of the lake. A valid Kentucky fishing license is required.
The park's boat ramp and marina area give access to a long, narrow reservoir well suited to pontoons, fishing boats, and kayaks. Wake zones and no-wake areas are posted; the twisting shoreline offers sheltered paddling on calm mornings.
Stone Coal Trail is a wooded hiking route near the campground with views of the lake through the hardwoods. Expect moderate ups and downs on natural surface tread, with roots and some muddy sections after rain.
Day-use picnic areas sit above the lake with tables, grills, and shaded lawns for easy stops between drives. Parking is generous and accessible for tow vehicles detached from trailers.
The park has a network of natural-surface trails shared by hikers and mountain bikers through ridge and ravine terrain. Ride early in the day for cooler temperatures and better chances of wildlife sightings.
The mixed hardwood forest and lake edge support white-tailed deer, wild turkey, songbirds, and occasional bald eagles. Spring and fall migrations are the most productive times for birders.
US 23 through eastern Kentucky is designated the Country Music Highway and passes near the park, linking small towns associated with artists like Loretta Lynn and Billy Ray Cyrus. It makes a scenic day trip with pull-offs and small-town diners that can accommodate a tow vehicle.

Yatesville Lake State Park, KY, United States
The park sits off KY 3215 west of Louisa, Kentucky, with primary access from US 23 (the Country Music Highway). Huntington, West Virginia is roughly 45 miles (about an hour) northeast, Ashland is about 35 miles north, and Lexington is approximately 150 miles west, or a 2.5 to 3 hour drive. RVers should watch for narrow, winding county roads on the final approach, steep grades on some connector routes, and low-clearance rural bridges; stick to US 23 and KY 3 for the smoothest haul. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travel is Huntington Tri-State Airport (HTS), with Lexington's Blue Grass Airport (LEX) a larger alternative.
