Campgrounds and RV parks near Coleman, AB

Coleman sits in the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass in southwest Alberta, a Rocky Mountain corridor along Highway 3 that connects the prairies to the British Columbia border. The community is one of five former municipalities amalgamated into Crowsnest Pass in 1979, and much of its downtown forms a National Historic Site tied to the area's coal mining heritage. RV travellers use Coleman as a base for the surrounding forests, lakes, and mountain crossings. Campgrounds within a short drive suit a range of setups. Lost Lemon RV Park and Campground and Crowsnest Pass Campground are close to town services, while Crowsnest Mountain Resort offers full-hookup sites geared to longer stays. Chinook Recreational Area and Island Lake Provincial Recreational Area sit north of the highway on forested lakeshores and are best suited to self-contained RVs and tents, with unserviced sites and no potable water. Expect a mix of private RV parks and public provincial recreation-area sites. Cell coverage is reasonable in town and thinner in the backcountry north of the pass.

Alberta's provincial recreation-area campgrounds, including Chinook and Island Lake, are booked through Alberta Parks at Shop.AlbertaParks.ca. Individual campsite reservations open on a rolling window up to 90 days before the arrival date, with the window advancing one day each morning at 9:00 a.m. Mountain Time. Prime summer weekends at popular lakeside sites can fill within minutes of the window opening. Chinook Campground is fully reservable across its four loops, so plan ahead rather than counting on a walk-in site in July and August. Private parks such as Lost Lemon RV Park and Campground, Crowsnest Mountain Resort, and Crowsnest Pass Campground take direct reservations by phone or through their websites, with longer maximum stays and full-hookup options. Book early for the May long weekend, the August civic holiday, and Labour Day.
