Campgrounds and RV parks near Crowsnest Pass, AB

The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre explains the April 1903 rockslide off Turtle Mountain that buried part of the town of Frank, with a self-guided trail across the slide debris. The Bellevue Underground Mine Tour, Leitch Collieries, and the Crowsnest Museum cover the area's coal-mining history. The Crowsnest River is known for fly fishing, with cutthroat, rainbow, and bull trout. Hikers head for Turtle Mountain, Crowsnest Mountain, and trails in Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland to the south. Mountain bikers use the Pass Powderkeg and York Creek trail networks. OHV riders access the Atlas, Allison-Chinook, and Lynx Creek staging areas. Lundbreck Falls, a short drive east, is a common family stop.

Most provincial recreation sites in the area, including Lynx Creek and Chinook, operate on a defined season from late spring through mid-September. Booking on Alberta Parks opens ninety days ahead of arrival, and long weekends in July and August book out quickly once the window opens. Private campgrounds such as Lost Lemon RV Park and Campground and Crowsnest Pass Campground take reservations earlier and run longer seasons, with some sites open year-round. Late spring and early summer bring the wettest weather of the year and the highest river levels, with June typically the rainiest month. July and August are the most reliable months for hiking and dry tenting, with warm days and cool nights at this elevation. September is quieter, with cooler nights and changing larch and aspen colours. Snow can arrive at higher elevations by October. Winter visitors come for backcountry skiing at Castle Mountain Resort and Nordic skiing on local trails, though most public campgrounds are closed and only a few private parks remain open.

Highway 3 runs straight through the municipality, so private campgrounds are easy to reach for any RV class. Cell service is reliable in Blairmore, Coleman, and Bellevue, and patchy in the surrounding valleys. Sites at Lost Lemon RV Park and Campground sit close together and within earshot of the rail line that follows the highway. Provincial sites at Lynx Creek and Chinook are unserviced, with pit toilets and limited or no potable water on site, so arrive with full fresh tanks and plan to pack out. Black bears and the occasional grizzly are active in the valleys, and bear-safe food storage is enforced. Summer afternoon thunderstorms are common, and winds through the Pass can be strong, so awnings should be used with caution.
