Campgrounds near Forestburg, Alberta
Forestburg sits in Flagstaff County in east-central Alberta, between the villages of Donalda and Forestburg along the Battle River, and within driving range of Stettler and Camrose. The village is a practical base for RV travellers exploring the Battle River Valley, with a mix of municipal, private, and provincial campgrounds in the surrounding parkland.
In town, Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park offers 17 fully serviced lots adjacent to a nine-hole grass-green course, with washroom and shower facilities and daily, monthly, seasonal, and stay-and-play rates. South of town, Big Knife Provincial Park sits on the Battle River between Donalda and Forestburg and is the closest provincial campground, with a mix of open and treed sites for tents and RVs plus walk-in tent sites in the forest. To the northeast, Sedgewick Lake Park Campground offers around 60 serviced and unserviced sites with a wading pool, spray park, and paved trail to a nearby golf course. Double Dam Golf Course & Campground near Rosalind and Stettler Rotary Campground round out the closest options for full-hookup RV travel.
Things to do near Forestburg
Most activity centres on the Battle River and the small lakes scattered across the parkland. At Big Knife Provincial Park, a reservoir just downstream slows the river and provides calm water for canoeing and kayaking, with a boat launch in the day-use area. Two short hiking trails showcase the park: the Highlands Trail through mixed forest with viewpoints over the valley, and the River Flats Trail, which passes a small area of hoodoos near the river. Birdwatching is strong throughout the park, and geocaches are hidden for visitors with a phone or GPS. Sedgewick Lake allows swimming and paddling but not motorboats, and adds a wading pool and spray park for kids. Golfers have multiple options within a short drive, including courses paired with campgrounds at Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park and Double Dam Golf Course & Campground.

The camping season in this part of central Alberta is short and concentrated between the May long weekend and the Labour Day long weekend. Big Knife Provincial Park is primarily a summer destination, with potable water available from the July long weekend through the Labour Day long weekend. Maintenance services at Big Knife are not provided after Labour Day until mid-May, off-season access depends on snow conditions, and there is no snow removal in winter. Sedgewick Lake Park Campground typically runs from the May long weekend through the end of September. Private operators such as Double Dam Golf Course & Campground tie their season to the golf course, opening once the course is playable in spring and closing in fall. Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park follows a similar pattern alongside its nine-hole course. Stettler Rotary Campground operates through the warm-weather season, with peak demand on summer weekends and holiday long weekends, when sites at all area campgrounds fill quickly.

How to book
Reservation systems vary by operator. Big Knife Provincial Park does not take reservations: sites are first come, first served, which makes early arrival on Friday afternoons important during long weekends and peak summer. Sedgewick Lake Park accepts reservations by phone at the office and through the CampReservationCanada.ca online booking system. Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park books its 17 serviced lots through the clubhouse by phone, with a booking link available on the club website. For Double Dam Golf Course & Campground and Stettler Rotary Campground, contact the operator directly to confirm availability, deposits, and stay limits. Group sites, the cook shack, and the wading pool at Sedgewick Lake can be reserved in advance and should be booked well ahead for summer weekends.
What to expect on site
Expect modest, family-oriented prairie campgrounds rather than resort-style RV parks. Big Knife Provincial Park has a mix of open and treed sites suitable for tents and RVs, plus walk-in tent sites tucked into the forest, with sewage disposal on site. Firewood is not sold at Big Knife, so campers should plan to bring or buy wood locally to limit the spread of forest pests. Sedgewick Lake Park provides 15- and 30-amp power, water and sewer service, flush toilets, showers, laundry, and a camp kitchen with a wood stove, plus two mini-cabins for non-RV guests. Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park sites are fully serviced and steps from the clubhouse, which operates as a licensed restaurant. Cell coverage is generally reliable in town and patchier in the river valley around Big Knife.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Forestburg, AB
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Forestburg, Alberta?
An RV rental in Forestburg is one of the most affordable ways to explore east-central Alberta. On RVezy, pricing is set by local hosts, so you typically see travel trailers from around $100 to $175 CAD per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275, and larger Class A units a bit higher. Booking midweek or during shoulder season (late April or September) is the easiest way to find a cheap RV rental in Forestburg. Pro tip: families heading to the Forestburg Kinsmen RV Park or Big Knife Provincial Park often save by choosing a slightly older travel trailer instead of a brand-new motorhome, and the savings can cover a full day of fuel.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Forestburg,AlbertaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Forestburg, Alberta?
Your regular Class 5 Alberta driver's licence (or its equivalent from another province, state, or country) is all you need to rent an RV in Forestburg. There's no special RV endorsement or commercial licence required for the motorhomes, campervans, and trailers listed on RVezy, even larger Class A units. Visiting from outside Canada? An International Driving Permit paired with your home licence works well. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and identity is verified quickly through the RVezy platform during booking. Upload your ID, get verified, and you're ready to roll down Highway 53 toward Battle River country.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Forestburg RV rental protected if something happens?
Every RVezy booking in Forestburg includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 36 with peace of mind. The protection plan covers damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the level of coverage that fits you during checkout. Whether you're crossing the Battle River bridge or pulling into Big Knife Provincial Park, help is one phone call away. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully before confirming, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. A few extra dollars per night for upgraded protection often pays for itself in confidence on gravel range roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Forestburg RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you confirm, so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is. You'll see the exact cancellation details during checkout and in your RVezy account. If the host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credit. Pro tip: book early to secure the best motorhome rental in Forestburg, then use the grace period to double-check campground reservations at Big Knife Provincial Park or the Kinsmen RV Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Forestburg RV rental?
Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental in Forestburg is easy to find on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see motorhomes and trailers from local hosts who welcome dogs. Forestburg is a great dog destination too: Big Knife Provincial Park allows leashed pets on its riverside trails, and the wide-open Battle River valley is perfect for morning walks. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and ask about extras like a water bowl or pet bed. Many Flagstaff County hosts are dog owners themselves and love seeing four-legged guests.
albertaparks.ca/albertaparksca/visit-our-parks/pets-in-parks/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Forestburg?
Yes, RV delivery in Forestburg is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip towing on Highway 13. Many hosts in the Flagstaff County area will drive the RV directly to Forestburg Kinsmen RV Park, Big Knife Provincial Park, or your private acreage, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees vary by host and distance. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy, then message hosts with your exact campsite number. Stationary delivery is the secret weapon for a stress-free family RV trip in Forestburg, no backing-up required.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106514-Delivery-optionsHow far can I drive on a Forestburg RV rental, and what's the mileage policy?
You've got room to roam: most Forestburg RV hosts on RVezy include a daily kilometre allowance (commonly 100 to 200 km per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer Alberta road trips. From Forestburg, Edmonton is about 175 km northwest, Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrell Museum sit roughly 220 km southwest, and Elk Island National Park is about 160 km away. Extra kilometres typically cost a small per-km fee set by the host if you exceed your allowance. Pro tip: map your full route before booking, then filter for unlimited-mileage listings if you're planning a big loop through the Canadian Badlands or an RV road trip from Forestburg to Banff (about 580 km).
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Forestburg,AlbertaWhere are the best campgrounds near Forestburg?
RV camping in Forestburg offers several good options within a short drive. Forestburg Kinsmen RV Park in town has serviced sites with power, showers, and a dump station, typically open spring through fall. Big Knife Provincial Park, about 25 km south, offers unserviced sites along the Battle River from mid-May to early September and is reservable through Alberta Parks. Battle River Crossing south of Galahad has additional sites and group areas, and the Forestburg Golf Club also offers RV camping with a round of golf. Pro tip: Big Knife books up fast for summer weekends, so reserve early through Alberta Parks. The river views at sunset are worth the planning.
albertaparks.ca/parks/central/big-knife-pp/When is the best time of year for a Forestburg RV trip?
The sweet spot is mid-June through early September, when Forestburg enjoys long prairie days with daytime highs typically in the low to mid 20s Celsius and warm evenings perfect for campfires. July is usually the warmest month, while late August into mid-September brings golden landscapes, fewer mosquitoes, and excellent stargazing under dark prairie skies. Spring (May) can still see overnight frost, and winters drop well below -20 C with snow on back roads. Pro tip: aim for the last two weeks of August for the ideal mix of warm afternoons at Big Knife Provincial Park, ripe saskatoon berries along the trails, and easier availability at the Kinsmen RV Park.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay in Forestburg?
You'll do great: first time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, and Forestburg is one of the most forgiving places in Alberta to learn. Roads here are wide, straight, and lightly trafficked, with no mountain passes or tight city corners to worry about. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, water systems, and the basics of hooking up at a campground. You can also message your host anytime during the trip. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first Forestburg RV trip. Practice a few turns in the Kinsmen RV Park lot before heading out to Big Knife Provincial Park.
alberta.ca/road-test-rules-of-the-roadWhat happens if I break down during my Forestburg RV trip?
You're never on your own: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is a quick phone call away whether you're parked at Big Knife Provincial Park or rolling down Highway 36 toward Hardisty. Roadside support handles common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service centre. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for quick questions like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater. Pro tip: save the RVezy support line and your host's number to your phone before leaving, since cell coverage can get patchy on rural Flagstaff County range roads between Forestburg and Donalda.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Forestburg?
Forestburg is a great launchpad for an Alberta RV adventure. Top picks: head about 220 km southwest to Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrell Museum for dinosaur country (around 2.5 hours); cruise about 175 km northwest to Edmonton and West Edmonton Mall (roughly 2 hours); or drive about 160 km north to Elk Island National Park to see free-roaming bison. For a longer RV road trip from Forestburg, Banff National Park is roughly 580 km west, and Waterton Lakes is about 530 km south. Pro tip: cross-border travel into the United States must be confirmed in writing with your host before booking, and travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limits.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in Forestburg?
Plan smart and fuel costs stay reasonable. Class C motorhomes around Forestburg typically get 18 to 22 L/100 km, Class A units 25 to 30 L/100 km, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer roughly 16 to 20 L/100 km. Gas in Forestburg and nearby Killam is usually close to or a touch below Edmonton prices, with pumps at the local Co-op and stations along Highway 53. Pro tip: fill up in Forestburg before heading to Big Knife Provincial Park, as fuel options on Highway 855 are limited until you reach Halkirk. Budget roughly $0.25 to $0.40 per kilometre for fuel on a typical Class C rental in central Alberta.
economicdashboard.alberta.ca/dashboard/gasoline-price/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Forestburg?
For peak summer (Canada Day, August long weekend, Labour Day), reserve sites at Big Knife Provincial Park well in advance through the Alberta Parks reservation system, which typically opens bookings 90 days before your arrival date. Forestburg Kinsmen RV Park and Battle River Crossing usually take direct reservations and have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: if Big Knife is full, look at nearby municipal and county campgrounds in Flagstaff County for quieter alternatives. Midweek arrivals (Sunday to Wednesday) are almost always available even in July, making them ideal for a spontaneous Forestburg RV camping getaway.
reservealbertaparks.ca/What are driving conditions like around Forestburg?
Driving an RV around Forestburg is relaxed: Highway 53 and Highway 36 are paved, two-lane, and lightly travelled, with gentle prairie curves and excellent sightlines. Watch for gravel range roads if you're heading to Battle River Crossing or off-grid spots, and slow down for deer and the occasional moose, especially at dawn and dusk. Spring thaw (March to April) can soften secondary roads, and winter brings snow, ice, and blowing snow on open stretches. Check Alberta 511 before you depart for live road reports. Pro tip: cross the Battle River bridge slowly with a wide RV, and avoid back roads after dark when wildlife crossings are most common.
511.alberta.ca/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Forestburg?

Forestburg Kinsmen RV Park offers serviced sites with power, flush toilets, hot showers, firewood, a playground, and a dump station on site. Big Knife Provincial Park offers unserviced sites, potable water fills, a dump station, pit toilets, and access to the Battle River. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator for off-grid nights at Big Knife Provincial Park. Wi-Fi is usually BYO via your phone hotspot. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list for must-haves like a backup camera, solar panels, or kid-friendly bunks before booking. The right features make a family RV trip in Forestburg much more comfortable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Forestburg,AlbertaWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Forestburg RV rental?
Hosts make trip planning easy with helpful extras. Common add-ons for a Forestburg RV rental include camping chairs and tables, kitchen and linen kits, bike racks, BBQs and propane refills, generators, and extra-kilometre packages, with prices set by the host. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Forestburg, with drop-off at the same location. Some hosts also offer delivery (great for first-timers) or one-way drop-off for an extra fee, just message the host directly through the listing to ask. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a stocked kitchen kit so you can arrive at Big Knife Provincial Park, open the door, and start your campfire within minutes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Forestburg,AlbertaHow do payment and the security deposit work for my Forestburg RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card at booking, and your host never handles your card details directly. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after drop-off, provided the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid issues, complete the pre-trip walkthrough thoroughly with your host and take photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer. Pro tip: keep receipts for fuel and propane top-ups during your Forestburg trip; many hosts ask you to return the RV with the same levels, and proof makes drop-off seamless.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Forestburg during winter?
Yes, winter RVing in Forestburg is possible and can be magical: frosted Battle River views, dark skies full of stars, and occasional northern lights. Some RVezy hosts list four-season or winter-ready rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and shore-power options. Filter your search for winter availability and message the host to confirm cold-weather prep. Temperatures from December to February regularly drop to -20 C or colder, so plan to stay where you can plug into 30-amp power continuously, like the Forestburg Kinsmen RV Park. Pro tip: travel with extra propane, RV antifreeze, and a heated water hose. Winter brings fewer crowds, lower nightly rates, and stunning prairie sunsets.
