Campgrounds near Killam, Alberta
Killam sits in Flagstaff County in east-central Alberta, surrounded by parkland, small lakes, and the Battle River valley. RV travellers based here have a mix of municipal lakeside campgrounds, golf-course parks, and a provincial park within roughly an hour's drive, making it a practical base for short loops through the region.
The closest stay is Sedgewick Lake Park Campground, about ten minutes south, a 59-site municipal park on a non-motorized lake. Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park lies southwest and pairs sites with a working course. Big Knife Provincial Park, on the Battle River south of Forestburg, offers the area's only provincial-park camping and is known for its hoodoos and river valley trails. Farther afield, Vegreville Elks-Kinsmen Municipal Campground is the largest option to the north, next to Vegreville's Pysanka and Highway 16. Double Dam Golf Course & Campground rounds out the local choices for golfers and families wanting a quieter overnight.
Things to do near Killam
Water and trails define most trips. Sedgewick Lake allows canoeing and paddle boarding, with a wading pool, spray park, and a walking trail to a nine-hole golf course nearby. Big Knife Provincial Park has marked trails, including routes to the scenic hoodoos, along the highlands in a mixed-forest, and along the flatlands river valley, plus a boat launch for calm-water paddling and good birdwatching among the coulees. Anglers can try the stocked trout pond at Vegreville's Pysanka Park, where a free Borrow-A-Bike and Borrow-A-Boat program also operates. Golfers have multiple courses within a short drive, including those attached to Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park and Double Dam Golf Course & Campground. Vegreville's giant Pysanka and seasonal Thursday farmers' market are easy add-ons for a half-day.

The camping season in this part of Alberta is short and concentrated. Most municipal campgrounds open the May long weekend and close around the end of September. Sedgewick Lake Park operates from the May long weekend through September 30, and Vegreville's municipal campground runs May through September. The Big Knife Provincial Park campground opens for the May long weekend and closes after the September long weekend, and maintenance services are not provided following Labour Day until mid-May, off-season access depends on snow conditions, and there is no snow removal in winter.
July and August are peak. Days are warm, daylight stretches past 10 p.m., and lake activities, courses, and farmers' markets all run on full schedules. Potable water at Big Knife is available July long weekend through Labour Day long weekend, so shoulder-season visitors should arrive with full tanks. September brings cooler nights, smaller crowds, and yellowing aspens, but services wind down quickly. From October through April, expect frozen ground, closed gates, and no on-site amenities at most parks.
Booking and how to reserve
Booking practices vary by operator, so check each park before arriving. Sedgewick Lake Park accepts bookings by phone and through its online booking system available through CampReservationCanada.ca. The Big Knife Provincial Park campground does not take reservations so sites are first come first served, so weekend arrivals should target a Thursday or early Friday in peak summer. Vegreville's Elks-Kinsmen Municipal Campground takes reservations in person, by phone, or online through the Town of Vegreville. Golf-attached parks such as Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park and Double Dam Golf Course & Campground are typically booked by phone through the clubhouse. Long weekends (Victoria Day, Canada Day, August civic holiday, Labour Day) fill earliest, so reserve serviced sites several weeks ahead and ask about big-rig length limits when booking.
What to expect
These are rural parkland campgrounds, not destination resorts. Sites tend to be back-in, with a fire pit and picnic table, and serviced loops generally offer 30-amp power. Sedgewick Lake offers full service, back-in RV sites, while serviced options are more limited elsewhere. Expect gravel or grass pads, mixed open and treed sites, and shared shower or pit-toilet facilities depending on the park. Sedgewick Lake Park has a dump station, firewood, flush toilets, showers, and group camping. At Big Knife, expect pit toilets, tap water in peak season, and sewage disposal provided onsite, but firewood is not available, so plan to bring or buy firewood locally to burn on site. Cell coverage is generally usable along Highways 13, 36, and 855 but can drop in river valleys.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Killam, AB
How much does an RV rental in Killam, AB typically cost?
Good news: RV rental in Killam is one of the most affordable ways to explore east-central Alberta. On RVezy, you'll generally find travel trailers from about $90 to $160 CAD per night, Class C motorhomes between $180 and $280 CAD, and larger Class A coaches at $250 and up. Most hosts also charge a small nightly fee for amenities like generators or bike racks. To score a cheap RV rental in Killam, book midweek (Sunday through Thursday), travel in the May or September shoulder season, and look for trailers near Daysland or Sedgewick where local hosts often deliver. Pro tip: bundling delivery can be cheaper than paying mileage for a long pickup drive.
flagstaff.ca/visitors/tourism/community-guide/town-of-killam/What license do I need to rent an RV in Killam, Alberta?
Great news for first-time renters: a standard Class 5 Alberta driver's license (or your home province/state equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Killam. No special motorhome endorsement, air brake ticket, or Commercial Driver's License is required for the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers you will find on RVezy. Approved drivers must generally be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your identity through the platform during checkout, so there is nothing extra to mail in. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit, and you will be cruising Highway 13 in no time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Killam protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every booking on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so your Killam RV trip starts with real peace of mind. You choose the protection level that suits you during checkout (the policy is set by RVezy, not by the individual host), and it helps cover physical damage to the RV during your rental. That means if a gravel chip cracks a window on Highway 36 or you scrape a mirror at Lagoona Beach RV Park, you are not on the hook for the full repair. Add in 24/7 roadside help for tire issues, dead batteries, or lockouts, and you can focus on enjoying the prairie sunsets instead of worrying about what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Killam RV trip plans change?
You can book your Killam RV rental with confidence because RVezy sets the cancellation policy centrally, not the individual host. That means the same fair terms apply across every campervan, motorhome, or travel trailer rental in Killam. Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel, and RVezy reviews exceptional circumstances such as severe weather or declared natural disasters on a case-by-case basis. You can review the full cancellation policy in the RVezy Help Center before you book. Pro tip: reserve earlier rather than later for the best RV selection during the Killam Indoor Rodeo and Blacktop Bonanza Street Fair weekends.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Killam?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Killam options are easy to find on RVezy — just tick the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see hosts who welcome four-legged co-pilots. Many local owners include perks like washable seat covers and water bowls, and most accept dogs for a small cleaning fee. Once you arrive, Killam is genuinely dog-friendly: the 2.5 km paved trail through Heritage and Centennial Parks has doggie bag dispensers along the route, and Centennial Park Campground borders the trail so your pup can stretch their legs right from the campsite. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet size or breed details, and ask if they keep a stake-out lead in the under-bed storage.
town.killam.ab.ca/recreation/parks-campgroundsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Killam?
Yes, RV delivery Killam is one of the most popular options on RVezy and a lifesaver for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV straight to Killam Centennial Park Campground, Lagoona Beach RV Park, or a private acreage, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means you never have to back a 30-foot trailer into a tight site. Delivery fees usually range from $2 to $4 per kilometre from the host's home base, with many offering free delivery within a set radius. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, and book a setup-included package for the easiest start to your trip.
town.killam.ab.ca/recreation/parks-campgroundsHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Killam, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of room to roam from Killam, and yes, RV rental with unlimited mileage is available from many RVezy hosts. Each listing shows the mileage policy up front, whether it's a generous daily allowance (often 100 to 200 km per day) or no cap at all. From Killam you can easily reach Edmonton (about 180 km west), Elk Island National Park (160 km northwest), Drumheller and the Badlands (about 290 km south), or Jasper National Park (560 km west). For an Alberta RV road trip from Killam, filter for unlimited mileage and you can chain multiple stops without watching the odometer. Always confirm the cents-per-kilometre overage fee in the listing before you book.
alberta.ca/highway-reportsWhere are the best campgrounds near Killam to park my RV?
There are several excellent campgrounds right on Killam's doorstep, so RV camping Killam is delightfully easy. Killam Centennial Park Campground (4616 57 Street) offers 16 pull-through sites with 30-amp power, water, and sewer, plus a brand-new 6-basket disc golf course completed in 2024. Lagoona Beach RV Park has 18 full-service sites with 30/15-amp power, free laundry, and a kids' play area, open April through November. Within a 30-minute drive you'll also find Sedgewick Lake Park, Big Knife Provincial Park on the Battle River, and Forestburg Golf Club & RV Park. Pro tip: Lagoona Beach operates first-come, first-served but will hold a spot if you call or text ahead.
town.killam.ab.ca/recreation/parks-campgroundsWhen is the best time of year for a Killam RV trip?
The sweet spot for a Killam RV trip is late May through mid-September, when daytime highs sit between 18°C and 25°C and the local campgrounds are fully open. July and August are peak season with long prairie evenings, fireflies, and most community events like the Blacktop Bonanza Street Fair in June and the Scarecrow Festival in September. Shoulder months (mid-May and late September) are quieter and cheaper, but bring layers because nights can drop near freezing. Winters here are genuinely cold (often -20°C or lower), so most owners winterize their RVs from November through March. If you crave a quiet, golden-prairie vibe with empty trails, early September is the local insider pick.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_1981_2010_e.html?searchType=stnName&txtStnName=KillamI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Killam?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Killam sits at the quiet junction of Highways 13 and 36, with wide, flat prairie roads, almost no traffic, and easy pull-through campgrounds — basically an ideal training ground for new RVers. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the propane, water, slide-outs, dump valves, and driving quirks, and they're a text away during your trip. Choosing a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20-25 foot travel trailer makes the first drive even easier. Pro tip: ask your host for a 10-minute parking practice in their yard before you set off toward Centennial Park.
alberta.ca/recreational-vehiclesWhat happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire during my trip?
You are never stranded on an RVezy trip: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking, including those leaving from Killam. One phone call dispatches help for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, or fuel delivery, anywhere along Highway 13, Highway 36, or out to the lake country north of town. For anything mechanical, message your host through the RVezy app; most local owners know the nearest service shops in Camrose (about 80 km west) or Wainwright (about 110 km east) and can coordinate repairs quickly. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate and the roadside assistance number on day one so everything is on your phone if you need it later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Killam RV rental across the border into the US?
Cross-border travel is sometimes possible, but it depends entirely on the individual host's insurance, so always confirm in writing through the RVezy message thread before you book. From Killam, the closest US crossings are Coutts-Sweetgrass (about 600 km south into Montana) and Carway (about 580 km southwest). Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. If your host says yes to the US, ask them for a written travel authorization letter you can show at the border, and confirm whether mileage and protection coverage still apply. For most Killam renters, sticking to an Alberta or BC route delivers a smoother, simpler RV road trip from Killam.
cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/menu-eng.htmlHow much should I budget for fuel on a Killam RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to budget when you rent an RV in Killam. Expect roughly 8 to 12 miles per US gallon (about 20-30 L/100km) for Class C motorhomes, 6 to 10 mpg for Class A coaches, and 14 to 18 mpg for a truck towing a small trailer. Alberta gas prices recently averaged around $1.40-$1.55 CAD per litre, and Killam has a Wild Rose Co-op station right in town for a top-up before you head out. For a 500 km loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $170-$220 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Camrose or Edmonton, where prices are often a few cents cheaper than the smaller highway stations.
economicdashboard.alberta.ca/dashboard/retail-gasoline-and-diesel-prices/How far in advance should I book a campground near Killam?
You have more flexibility around Killam than in Alberta's mountain parks, which is one of the perks of camping out here. Provincial sites such as Big Knife Provincial Park can be reserved through Reserve Alberta Parks, and weekends in July and August fill quickly, so aim to book 6 to 8 weeks ahead. Town-run Killam Centennial Park Campground and Lagoona Beach RV Park typically take phone or text reservations and often have last-minute availability outside long weekends. Pro tip: if you are visiting during the Killam Indoor Rodeo or Blacktop Bonanza in June, lock in your campsite at the same time you book your RV, because both events draw visitors from across Flagstaff County.
reserve.albertaparks.ca/What are the driving conditions like around Killam?
Driving around Killam is famously easy: flat, open prairie, light traffic, and well-maintained pavement on Highways 13 and 36. The biggest things to watch for are sudden summer thunderstorms, deer and moose at dawn and dusk, and strong crosswinds that can push a tall RV around, especially on exposed stretches between Hardisty and Sedgewick. In winter, blowing snow and black ice are real concerns, which is why most hosts winterize their rigs by November. Check the free 511 Alberta service for live road and weather updates before any long leg. Pro tip: keep your speed at or below 90 km/h in a motorhome — you'll save fuel and have far more reaction time on Alberta's wildlife-rich rural highways.
511.alberta.ca/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Killam?
Campgrounds near Killam punch above their weight for a small-town area. Killam Centennial Park's 16 pull-through sites offer 30-amp power, water, sewer, fire pits, picnic tables, washrooms with showers, and firewood for sale, plus the adjacent disc golf course and playground. Lagoona Beach RV Park provides full hookups with 30/15-amp power, municipal water, sewer at every site, free laundry for weekly guests, and clean washrooms. Both have on-site potable water fills and dump stations available to registered campers. For boondocking-style stays, Big Knife Provincial Park offers more rustic sites with vault toilets and a hand pump. Pro tip: top up fresh water in town before heading to any provincial park, where fills can be slower or seasonal.
albertaparks.ca/parks/central/big-knife-pp/What's inside a typical RV rental in Killam?
You'll be surprised how well-equipped today's rentals are. Most Killam RVezy listings — whether Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans — come with a queen or king bed, a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, a dinette that converts to a bed, a furnace, air conditioning, and a TV. Many also include a generator or solar setup, an outdoor BBQ, camp chairs, and basic kitchenware. Seatbelted seats range from 4 to 7 depending on the rig, and Wi-Fi varies (cellular signal is solid along Highway 13). Check the listing's amenity icons before booking. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group size and look for outdoor speakers if you love evening prairie campfires.
alberta.ca/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Killam rental?
RVezy hosts in the Killam area offer a great range of add-ons that make trip planning simple. Popular extras include bedding and linen packages ($30-$75 per trip), kitchen kits, generators ($15-$30/day), bike racks, propane fire pits, camp chairs, and Starlink Wi-Fi. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Killam, Sedgewick, Daysland, or Forestburg, with delivery available to local campgrounds for a per-kilometre fee. Mileage policies vary, so check the listing for daily limits and overage rates — many hosts offer unlimited kilometre packages for longer trips. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator together when you book and ask the host about a multi-night discount; many local owners offer 5-10% off weekly stays.
flagstaff.ca/visitors/tourism/community-guide/town-of-killam/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you are never exchanging cash or e-transfers with the host. When you book your RV rental in Killam, your card is charged for the rental, protection plan, and any add-ons, all processed securely through RVezy. The refundable security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is placed as a temporary hold on your card before pickup, then released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with the host at pickup and again at drop-off. Pro tip: use a credit card with a high limit so the deposit hold does not crowd out your fuel and groceries budget.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip routes from Killam?
Killam's central location makes it a fantastic launch pad for an Alberta RV road trip from Killam. Top routes include: a 290 km drive south to Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrell Museum in the Badlands; a 180 km cruise west to Edmonton for the river valley and West Edmonton Mall; a 160 km loop northwest to Elk Island National Park for bison sightings and stargazing in a Dark Sky Preserve; a 110 km eastern jaunt to Wainwright for Canadian Forces Base history; and a longer 560 km Icefields-bound trip to Jasper National Park. Pro tip: combine Elk Island and Edmonton into a 3-night loop using Highway 14 east back to Killam for a relaxing first-timer itinerary that avoids mountain driving entirely.
