Campgrounds and RV parks near Two Hills County No. 21, AB

Lakes drive most of the recreation in this part of Alberta. Garner Lake is well suited to canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing, and the park has roughly five kilometres of walking and cycling trails plus a grassy playground area. Vermilion Provincial Park sits in the Vermilion River Valley with access to the Vermilion Reservoir, trails through forests, grasslands, and marshes, the Claude Brennan Trout Pond, and a mini golf course. Kehiwin Lake supports yellow perch, pike, and whitefish, with a boat launch and pier on site. Franchere Bay sits on Moose Lake, where swimming, boating, water skiing, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, and fishing are popular, along with a sandy beach. In Vegreville, the campground park includes a fishing pond and walking trails close to town services.

Most Alberta provincial campgrounds are open from mid-May to the end of September, with some staying open into early or mid-October. Vegreville Elks-Kinsmen Municipal Campground operates through the warm-weather months on a municipal schedule. Provincial sites such as Garner Lake and Franchere Bay typically open in mid-May and close in early to mid-October once water and other services are shut down for winter. Vermilion Provincial Park is the main year-round option in the area. Pull-through sites B15, 17 and 19 remain open from October 31 to March 31 on a self-registration basis, with no firewood, water, or showers available in winter. The Shell station in Vermilion offers a sani-dump during that period. July and August are the peak months. June typically brings the highest rainfall of the year, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Bug pressure from mosquitoes and horseflies is highest from late May through July, especially near lakeshores. Wildfire smoke drifting in from northern Alberta can reduce air quality intermittently during dry summers.

Sites in this region range from basic gravel pads to full hookups. Vermilion has 124 sites, with 70 power, 6 power and water, and 19 power, water, and sewage hookups, plus pull-throughs that suit larger rigs. Garner Lake offers basic and power campsites, shower facilities, a boat launch, fish cleaning stands, potable water, picnic shelters, and a sewage dumping area. Franchere Bay is a large, forested, full-service campground with unserviced, power, and power/water sites, flush toilets, a shower house, and a playground. Kehiwin is more rustic, with tree-lined basic sites and a boat launch on the lake. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Vegreville, Vermilion, and Bonnyville but can drop on park access roads. High populations of Richardson's ground squirrels exist at Vermilion, so food attractants should be secured in vehicles or hard-sided containers. Black bears are present in forested areas around Moose Lake and Kehiwin Lake, so standard food storage practices apply.
