Campgrounds and RV parks near Hudson's Hope, BC

The area is built around water, fishing, and dam tourism. Local lakes hold species including northern pike, lake trout, bull trout, arctic grayling, and lake whitefish, with Moberly Lake known for northern pike, bull trout, lake trout, and whitefish. Moberly Lake Provincial Park supports swimming, canoeing, boating, sailing, fishing, and has 109 vehicle and tent sites for overnighting, plus a double boat launch and a marked swimming beach. The W.A.C. Bennett Dam is a signature stop. Williston Lake sits behind the dam, and the visitor centre offers guided tours into the underground powerhouse. In town, the Hudson's Hope Museum and Peace Canyon Dam round out a rainy-day itinerary. At Charlie Lake Provincial Park, families use forested walking trails and a day-use area with an adventure playground, large grass field, picnic shelter, horseshoe pits, and a disc golf course. Wildlife along Highway 29 includes moose, black bear, and deer, especially at dawn and dusk.

The camping window in this part of northeastern BC is short. The Moberly Lake campground is open from May to September, and camping season at Charlie Lake Provincial Park also runs from May to September, with 57 campsites, of which 51 are reservable. Private parks such as Caron Creek RV Park operate year-round, but most provincial and municipal grounds close once snow returns. July and August are peak months, with the warmest weather and longest daylight. June brings some of the wettest conditions of the summer and heavy mosquito activity, especially on lakeshore trails. September can be excellent for RV travellers: cooler nights, thinner crowds, and fewer bugs, though services begin winding down and overnight temperatures can drop near freezing. Winter travel is possible but demanding. Highway 29 stays open, but provincial park campgrounds close their services, water is off, and only a limited number of private sites remain accessible. Wildfire smoke can also affect air quality across northeastern BC in mid to late summer.

Sites in this region are generally rustic by southern-BC standards. At Charlie Lake Provincial Park, there are no electric or water hookups, though water taps and pit toilets are available in the campground, and a sewage dump station is on site for a small fee. Moberly Lake Provincial Park offers similar basics: picnic tables, pit toilets, fire pits, firewood and water, a sani-station, a boat launch, and a large picnic and day-use area with a shelter. Rig size matters. The posted RV length limit at Moberly Lake is 32 feet, and larger rigs at Charlie Lake can be accommodated at certain sites, so it is prudent to call ahead. Some parking pads are sloped, so come prepared to level. Cell service is patchy off the highway. Bring bear spray, secure food and coolers overnight, and expect mosquitoes near lakes from June through August.
