Sliammon 1 camping overview
Sliammon 1 sits on the upper Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, immediately north of Powell River and south of Lund along Highway 101. The community is the home of the Tla'amin (Sliammon) First Nation, and campgrounds in the surrounding qathet Regional District draw RV travellers using the area as a base for Desolation Sound, Powell Lake, and the Salish Sea.
Options range from full-service municipal and private parks to rustic provincial and regional sites. Willingdon Beach Campsite offers oceanside sites in the heart of Powell River, while Haywire Bay Regional Park provides lakefront camping on Powell Lake. North of Sliammon 1 near Lund, Sunlund By-The-Sea RV Park and Campground and Garnet Rock Oceanside Resort focus on RV travellers, and Okeover Arm Provincial Park serves as a common launching point for kayakers heading into Desolation Sound.
Access is by BC Ferries from either Saltery Bay to the south or Comox on Vancouver Island, so trip planning should account for ferry schedules and sailing waits.
Things to do near Sliammon 1
The waterfront is the main draw. Okeover Arm Provincial Park is a common launch for paddlers heading into Desolation Sound Marine Park, with sheltered water suited to canoes and sea kayaks. Powell Lake, accessed from Haywire Bay Regional Park, offers freshwater swimming, a boat launch, and a family-friendly swim area.
On land, the Sunshine Coast Trail runs through the region and passes directly through Haywire Bay. Shorter options include the wheelchair-accessible loop around Inland Lake. Willingdon Beach in Powell River has a sandy swim beach, spray park, playgrounds, and mini-golf directly next to the campground, useful for travelling families needing an easy day.

Great hosts. Friendly and responsive. Trailer was exactly as described and had everything we needed for our 5 night stay. The king bed was comfy, my kids complained a bit about the bunk mattresses, they were a little thin.

How to book near Sliammon 1
Reservation systems vary by operator, so plan by park type. Okeover Arm Provincial Park does not take reservations: all sites are first-come, first-served, with self-registration on arrival.
Haywire Bay Regional Park is run by the qathet Regional District and also operates first-come, first-served for single sites, with payment at the self-registration station. The two group sites and the camper cabin can be booked up to a year in advance by contacting the park caretaker by phone.
Willingdon Beach Campsite accepts reservations through the municipal operator, with payment in full required at booking and a full refund available with more than seven days notice. Sunlund By-The-Sea and Garnet Rock Oceanside Resort take direct reservations through their operator websites, and summer weekends should be locked in well in advance.
What to expect on arrival
Hookup levels vary widely. Willingdon Beach Campsite has 83 sites with full hookup, electric and water, unserviced, and tenting options, along with 30-amp service, coin-operated showers, and laundry. Sunlund By-The-Sea and Garnet Rock Oceanside Resort offer serviced RV sites with power, water, and sewer.
Regional and provincial parks are more basic. Haywire Bay has gravel sites with fire rings, drinking water, showers, and pit toilets, but no hookups or sani-dump. Okeover Arm has pit toilets and no hookups or dump station, and the park has no developed trails.
Expect narrow, winding roads on Highway 101 north of Powell River, black bear activity in the area, and ferry connections that add travel time on arrival and departure days.

bcparks.ca/okeover-arm-park/When is the best time of year to visit Sliammon 1 in an RV?
The Sunshine Coast lives up to its name, and the sweet spot for a Sliammon 1 RV trip is mid-June through mid-September, when daytime highs sit around 20 to 24°C and rainfall drops dramatically. July and August are the warmest and driest, ideal for swimming at Powell Lake or paddling Desolation Sound. May, June, and September are the smart-money shoulder seasons: greener forests, fewer crowds at Willingdon Beach, easier ferry reservations, and lower nightly rates. Winters are mild (typically 2 to 8°C) but wet, with December and January averaging over 200 mm of rain. Pro tip: target the last two weeks of June for long daylight hours, dry trails, and pre-peak pricing.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_1991_2020_e.html?searchType=stnProv&lstProvince=BCI've never rented an RV before. How does pickup and orientation work?
First time renting an RV? You're going to be in great hands on the Sunshine Coast. RVezy hosts near Sliammon 1 personally meet you at pickup (or at your delivery location) and walk you through the entire rig: propane, water, awning, slide-outs, generator, dump procedure, and any quirks. Most orientations take 30 to 60 minutes, and you can ask anything, no question is too basic. Many hosts also leave laminated cheat sheets and a phone number for trip-time questions. And before you ever book, you can message the host directly from the listing to share your itinerary. Pro tip: schedule a morning pickup so you have full daylight for your first drive up Highway 101.
icbc.com/road-safety/sharing/Pages/recreational-vehicles.aspxWhat happens if I break down or have an issue on the road?
You're never alone out there. Every RV rental in Sliammon 1 booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering tows, flat tires, lockouts, battery boosts, and fuel delivery. Cell coverage is reliable along Highway 101 from Saltery Bay through Powell River up to Lund, though it thins out on logging roads toward Powell Lake's north end, so download offline maps before heading inland. If something more serious comes up, your host is your first call and RVezy support is the second. Powell River General Hospital and several mechanics in town can handle most issues. Pro tip: snap a photo of the roadside assistance number and keep it handy on your dashboard.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take the RV across to Vancouver Island or down to the US?
Yes to Vancouver Island, with a quick conversation first for cross-border trips. Most Sunshine Coast hosts happily allow the Powell River to Comox BC Ferries sailing, which is the classic Vancouver Island loop, just confirm with the host before booking so they can note ferry travel in your agreement. Travel into the United States is often allowed but depends on the host's insurance, so message them with your route (popular ones include Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula) to get a clear yes. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Pro tip: book your ferry reservation the moment your RV booking is confirmed, summer sailings fill up fast.
cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/menu-eng.htmlWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for?
Budgeting fuel for your Powell River RV trip is pretty straightforward. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 mpg (about 11 to 13 L/100 km), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg (17 to 24 L/100 km), and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but usually add 20 to 30 percent to its normal consumption. Gas prices in Powell River have recently hovered around $1.75 to $1.95 per litre, slightly higher than Vancouver because of ferry logistics, so consider fueling up in Sechelt or Langdale on the way in. The good news: distances on the Sunshine Coast are short. A full loop from Sliammon to Lund and back burns very little fuel. Pro tip: the Petro-Canada in Powell River is usually the cheapest in town.
www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/natural-gas-oil/petroleum-products-informationHow far in advance should I book a campground?
For peak summer (July and August), book provincial park sites the moment the four-month rolling window opens on BC Parks' Discover Camping reservation system, especially Okeover Arm, Saltery Bay, and Inland Lake. Willingdon Beach Municipal Campground takes reservations through the qathet Regional District site and fills 2 to 3 months out for summer weekends. For May, June, and September, you can often score sites 2 to 4 weeks ahead, and shoulder-season midweek bookings sometimes come available days before. Haywire Bay Regional Campground operates on a mix of reservations and first-come, first-served. Pro tip: if you strike out, ask your RVezy host, locals know hidden recreation sites along Powell Lake and Goat Lake that aren't on the booking systems.
bcparks.ca/reservations/What are driving conditions like around Sliammon 1?
Driving an RV around Sliammon 1 is genuinely manageable, even for first-timers. Highway 101 is a paved, two-lane road with wide shoulders through most of Tla'amin territory, gentle curves, and stunning Strait of Georgia views. Speed limits sit around 70 to 80 km/h, and traffic is light outside of summer ferry rush. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk (especially north toward Lund), logging trucks on weekdays, and the occasional steep grade near Saltery Bay. Winters bring rain more than snow at sea level, but interior roads to Powell Lake can ice over. Pro tip: check DriveBC before any inland detour, and arrive at the Saltery Bay or Westview ferry terminals at least 60 minutes early in summer.
drivebc.ca/What amenities do campgrounds near Sliammon 1 offer?
Sunshine Coast campgrounds range from full-service to rustic, so there's something for every comfort level. Willingdon Beach Municipal Campground offers full hookups (water, 30-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, and showers. Haywire Bay Regional has water and pit toilets but no hookups, while BC Parks sites like Okeover Arm and Saltery Bay typically provide water taps, flush or pit toilets, and fire rings but no electrical hookups. Dump stations are available at Willingdon Beach and the Powell River Town Centre Mall area. Potable water fills are easy in Powell River. Cell service is good in town and patchy at remote sites. Pro tip: if your RV rental in Sliammon 1 has a generator, confirm campground quiet hours, most BC Parks limit generator use to 9 to 11 am and 6 to 9 pm.
bcparks.ca/saltery-bay-park/What features and amenities come with a typical RV rental?
Most motorhome rental Sliammon 1 listings on RVezy come surprisingly well-equipped. Expect a real bed (queen or larger), kitchen with fridge, propane stove, microwave, sink, dining table, indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, furnace, and seatbelted seating for everyone traveling. Many Class C motorhomes and campervans also include solar panels, generators, outdoor showers, and Bluetooth stereos. Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and TV vary by listing, and the campervan rental Sliammon 1 options often skip TVs in favour of cozy sleeping conversions. Linens, kitchenware, and camp chairs are sometimes included and sometimes offered as add-ons. Pro tip: check each listing's amenity list and add-ons carefully, and message hosts to confirm anything specific like a paddleboard rack or kid booster seats.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sliammon%2C%20British%20ColumbiaWhat add-ons and extras can I expect when booking?
RVezy hosts near Sliammon 1 often offer helpful add-ons that make your trip smoother. Common options include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, BBQs, kayaks or paddleboards (a huge bonus on Powell Lake and Okeover Inlet), bike racks, generators, and pet cleaning fees if you're bringing a dog. Delivery within the Powell River and Lund area is typically priced per kilometre from the host's location. Mileage policies vary: some listings include a set number of free kilometres per day, while others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for Vancouver Island loops. Pickup and dropoff windows are set by each host. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking, it's almost always cheaper than adding them later.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sliammon%2C%20British%20ColumbiaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment for your RV rental in Sliammon 1 is handled entirely through RVezy, so you never hand cash or e-transfers to a stranger. You pay with a credit card at booking, and your funds are held securely until your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged unless there's damage or a policy violation. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition, the hold is released after dropoff. Pro tip: do a full walk-around video at both pickup and dropoff with your host, it's the fastest way to keep your deposit return smooth and stress-free.
