Pine Creek 66A sits in western Manitoba's Parkland region, within driving range of the Duck Mountain and Porcupine Hills uplands and the west shore of Lake Manitoba. The area is a mix of boreal forest, spring-fed lakes and low-lying beach ridges, with campgrounds run mostly by Manitoba Parks and a handful of private operators. The closest developed camping is inside Duck Mountain Provincial Park, where the spring-fed waters of Blue, Childs, Wellman and Singuish Lakes are legacies of ancient glacial times, and the park's rolling terrain of woodland, wetlands and valley meadows is home to a variety of wildlife, including black bear, moose, white-tailed deer, lynx, coyote and wolves. Wellman Lake and Blue Lakes campgrounds offer provincial-park sites, and Wellman Lake Lodge and RV Park provides a private option nearby. Farther east on Lake Manitoba, Manipogo is located on a flat, low-lying ridge of land on the west shore of Lake Manitoba, with long sand beaches. To the north, North Steeprock Lake Provincial Park offers rustic camping in the Porcupine Hills for RV travellers willing to trade hookups for quiet.

Campground reservations open in stages over five days, an approach introduced to reduce log-in issues after years of complaints about the online system crashing under heavy demand, with cabins and yurts opening first, followed by the busiest parks, then western-region campgrounds such as Duck Mountain and Manipogo, and finally all remaining locations. A reservation cancellation fee applies to any reservation cancelled four or more days prior to arrival, while reservations cancelled within three days or less of arrival are charged one night's camping fee.
