Campgrounds and RV parks near Douglas, NB

The Saint John River and Mactaquac headpond drive most of the outdoor activity. Boating, paddling, swimming, and freshwater fishing are the main draws, and Mactaquac Provincial Park has two freshwater beaches and two marinas. The park also runs an 18-hole championship golf course open through the warm season. On land, the park keeps a network of hiking trails of varying lengths, including the Beaver Pond loop with interpretive signs and a boardwalk crossing the pond. Hartt Island connects to Fredericton's riverfront trail network for cycling and walking along the river. Downtown Fredericton adds the Historic Garrison District, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, and farmers' markets, with the Kings Landing living-history site a short drive west for rainy days.

The core RV season runs from mid-May through mid-October. Hartt Island RV Resort operates from May 1 (weather permitting) through October 15. Mactaquac Provincial Park's serviced campground opens by reservation from mid-May into September, and the park itself stays open year-round as a four-season destination with winter camping available. July and August are peak: warm days, the Mactaquac beaches are fully staffed, and popular sites at the provincial park fill weeks ahead. Late June and early September are quieter shoulder windows with fewer bugs and easier availability. Fall colour along the Saint John River valley peaks in early to mid-October, and many private parks stay open long enough to catch it. Winter shifts the park to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, and skating on the frozen duck pond and forest skating trail, with rental equipment available on site. Private RV parks in the area generally close for winter, so cold-weather visitors should plan around Mactaquac's winter camping sites.

Roads in and out of Douglas are paved and easy for larger rigs, and the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 2) runs just south of the community. Fredericton has full RV services, propane, groceries, and repair options within a short drive. Site styles vary. Hartt Island leans resort-style with a waterpark, mini-golf, 30- and 50-amp hookups, and level riverside sites. Mactaquac offers a mix of tent, RV, and rustic-shelter accommodations across a 1,300-acre park. Durham Bridge is smaller and quieter with a 20-by-40-foot inground pool, laundry, tube and kayak rentals, and Nashwaak River access. River Run Resort & Grill and Woolastook Park add their own cabin and full-service options. Expect black flies and mosquitoes in late spring, cool river-valley nights even in July, and leashed-pet policies at all listed parks.
