Campgrounds and RV parks near Neguac, NB

The Neguac area is built around its beaches and shallow warm water. Families use the local dune and beach parks for swimming, wading, and long walks, while paddlers launch kayaks on the sheltered lagoons behind the barrier islands. Cycling is common on the flat coastal roads that link Acadian villages along the shore. Within an easy drive, Kouchibouguac National Park expands the options considerably. The park rents equipment for summer and winter activities, with paddling, cycling, hiking, and fishing in the warm months and snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and fat biking in winter. It protects barrier islands, sand dunes, lagoons, salt marshes, and forests, and provides habitats for approximately 50 species protected under the Species at Risk Act, including the endangered piping plover and the second largest tern colony in North America, along with colonies of harbour and grey seals on the park's 25 kilometres of sand dunes.

The RV season on this stretch of coast is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds operate from late May through mid-October, with the busiest weeks running from Canada Day through New Brunswick Day in early August. The area is busiest in July and August when summer visitors swim and sun at the beaches, and the long weekends in May (Victoria Day), July (Canada Day), August (New Brunswick Day), and September (Labour Day) are always the most crowded. Shoulder seasons trade crowds for cooler nights and variable weather. Autumn is popular for hiking or cycling as the forests take on their fall colours. Late spring can still be cold along the Gulf, and biting flies are common in June in wooded sites. Winter effectively closes private RV camping in the area. When the snow falls, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking take over in Kouchibouguac, and the park's primitive backcountry sites remain available on a first-come basis for cold-weather users.

Expect a coastal, small-town setting rather than a resort strip. Roads are flat and easy for towing, and cell service is generally reliable in and around Neguac but can thin out on back roads and in parts of Kouchibouguac. French is the working language in most Acadian villages, though English is widely understood at campgrounds and stores. Stock up before arriving. Kouchibouguac has only a small store on site, so larger supply runs are done in Miramichi or Moncton. The same is true near Neguac itself, where groceries and RV supplies are limited to a handful of local shops. Bring bug protection for June and early July, warm layers for evenings even in mid-summer, and note that Kouchibouguac restricts outside firewood to protect against invasive forest pests. Firewood can be purchased in the park.
