Campgrounds near Pasadena

Pasadena sits on the Humber River in western Newfoundland, on the Trans-Canada Highway between Deer Lake and Corner Brook. It functions as a practical staging point for RV trips into Gros Morne National Park to the north and the Humber Valley recreation corridor to the south. Deer Lake Regional Airport, the main air gateway to western Newfoundland, is roughly fifteen minutes east. Private RV parks in and near town, including Gateway To The North RV Park and Funland Resort, handle serviced hookups and family amenities. Grand Lake Tourist Park, on the shore of Grand Lake near Howley, offers a lakeside base within an easy drive east. To the north, Lomond River Lodge Campground and the Parks Canada operated Lomond Campground - Gros Morne National Park put travellers on Bonne Bay inside the national park boundary. Most RV travellers use Pasadena for one or two nights on arrival, then push north into Gros Morne, where sites fill quickly in peak summer.

Things to do near Pasadena

Gros Morne National Park anchors most itineraries. The park covers 1,805 square kilometres and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with fjords, the Tablelands, and coastal hiking. Popular day trips from a Pasadena base include the Western Brook Pond boat tour, the Tablelands trail near Woody Point, and Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse near Rocky Harbour. Closer to town, Marble Mountain sits about twenty minutes south and runs year-round, with skiing and snowboarding in winter plus zip lines over Steady Brook Falls, chairlift scenic rides, and hiking in the warmer months. Pasadena Ski and Nature Park maintains cross-country ski and snowshoe trails in winter and doubles as a walking area off-season. The Humber River is a well-known Atlantic salmon river, and Grand Lake offers boat launches and swimming.

The main RV season runs late May through early October. Parks Canada campgrounds in Gros Morne typically operate from early June to mid or late September, with Berry Hill running from around the May long weekend to the end of September. Green Point stays open year-round, but it is unserviced by self-registration between the October Thanksgiving weekend and the May long weekend, when the water is shut off and only a pit toilet is available. July and August are peak months. Sites in Gros Morne can fill within days of the reservation launch, and private parks near Pasadena also book heavily around long weekends. June brings blackflies and cooler evenings, while September offers thinner crowds, fall colour, and generally reliable weather. Winter shifts the region toward skiing and snowmobiling out of Marble Mountain and the Pasadena Ski and Nature Park trails. RV travel in winter is uncommon, and most private campgrounds close by mid-October.

I spent 10 days travelling around the island in “The Noplanvan” and it was incredible! Easy to drive and park. It’s compact and basic but has a very comfortable bed and the cooler worked great for my needs. Temperatures ranged from 4-22 degrees during the nights of my stay. I had plenty of blankets to stay warm and the fan worked great for the warmer nights. All your basic camping essentials were in the van or Thule. Kyle was very accommodating, responsive and gave some great recommendations! I would definitely book again.

Reservable Parks Canada campgrounds in Gros Morne, including Berry Hill, Green Point, Shallow Bay, and Trout River, are booked through the Parks Canada Reservation Service at reservation.pc.gc.ca or by phone. Lomond Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is not reservable online. Reservations for the coming season typically launch in early February, with specific launch dates and times posted on the Parks Canada website. Visitors need to sign up for a new user account on the updated platform to book Newfoundland and Labrador national park campgrounds. Private campgrounds near Pasadena, including Gateway To The North RV Park, Funland Resort, Lomond River Lodge Campground, and Grand Lake Tourist Park, are booked directly with the operator by phone, email, or their own websites. For July and August travel, booking two to three months ahead is standard, and longer for holiday weekends.

What to expect on site

Private parks around Pasadena generally provide electrical hookups, water, showers, dump stations, and Wi-Fi at many sites. Sites range from open, level pull-throughs to more wooded back-ins. Cell coverage is reliable along the Trans-Canada Highway and thinner in parts of Gros Morne.
