Campgrounds and RV parks near Trenton, NS

Beach days are the main draw. The mile-long sand beach at Caribou Munroes Island Provincial Park is known for some of the warmest saltwater swimming north of the Carolinas, and the park adds a shoreline trail out to Munroes Island, a former farm that is now a wilderness reserve. Merigomish Harbour, near Cranberry Campground, offers additional beach access along the Northumberland Shore. In Pictou, families can tour the Hector Heritage Quay with its full-sized replica of the Ship Hector, visit the Pictou Lobster Hatchery, and explore the waterfront's shops and restaurants. Nearby museums include the Museum of Industry in Stellarton and the Northumberland Fisheries Museum in Pictou. On the water, Merigomish Harbour and the sheltered inlets around Pictou are popular for kayaking and paddleboarding. The Caribou to Wood Islands ferry runs from Caribou for day trips to Prince Edward Island.

The camping season on the Northumberland Shore generally runs from late spring to mid-October. Caribou Munroes Island Provincial Park operates from early June to mid-October, while private parks such as Harbour Light Trailer Court and Campground typically open earlier in May and close by mid-October. Peak bookings run from Canada Day through Labour Day, with July and August drawing the warmest saltwater temperatures. Spring brings cool nights, black-fly activity in wooded sites, and quieter campgrounds. Late June marks the shift to reliable swimming weather. Fall is quiet and often clear, with mild days into early October before parks shut down for winter. Wildfire risk is a real seasonal factor: Nova Scotia enforces provincial burn restrictions from March 15 to October 15 each year, with open fires banned across the province between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily during that window. These restrictions do not apply to campfires in licensed private, municipal, or provincial campgrounds with proper campfire facilities, but RVers should still check the BurnSafe map before lighting a fire on any other public or private land.

Nova Scotia's provincial camping parks provide a comfort station with flush toilets and showers, a dump station, and drinking-water taps throughout the park, with picnic tables and firepits at each site. Serviced sites at Caribou Munroes Island offer two-way hookups with 30-amp electrical service and water; unserviced wooded sites are also available. Private parks near Pictou tend to carry more amenities. Options include a mix of 30-amp electrical, water and sewer hookups, pull-through sites, laundry, playgrounds, and Wi-Fi, depending on the operator. Confirm specific hookups and site sizes directly with each campground before booking. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the Northumberland Shore. Mosquitoes and black flies can be active in wooded sites, especially early in the season, so bring repellent.
