Campgrounds and RV parks near Millbrook, ON

Water access defines most trips. The Otonabee River and the wider Trent-Severn Waterway thread through the region, holding bass, walleye, and muskie, with boat rentals and launches making it easy to fish, kayak, or canoe. Rice Lake, Pigeon Lake, and Chemong Lake sit within short drives for swimming, paddling, and boat-in day trips. On land, the adjacent 11,000-acre Ganaraska Forest conservation land offers exceptional outdoor recreation including hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and ATV exploration, and the Ballyduff Trails and the Fleet Creek natural area lookout lie close by. Peterborough, a short drive north, provides the Peterborough Lift Lock, the Canadian Canoe Museum, restaurants, and grocery resupply. The village of Millbrook itself has a compact main street with cafes and a summer theatre programme.

The camping season in this part of Ontario is tightly compressed. Most private parks and all Ontario Parks campgrounds operate from spring through mid-October, then close for winter. Emily Provincial Park runs a recreational season from early May to mid-October, with reservations handled through Ontario Parks, and Sandaraska Park operates from May to mid-October. Kawartha Trails Resort follows a similar May to October window. July and August are peak season. Sites at provincial parks and lakeside private resorts fill early, weekends book out weeks ahead, and Civic Holiday and Labour Day long weekends see the tightest availability. Black flies and mosquitoes peak in late May and June near wetlands and forested sites; deer flies follow in July. Spring shoulder camping in May offers cool nights, wildflower blooms, and open sites, but many amenities such as pools and stores open later in the month. September brings warm days, cooler nights, and strong fishing on the Trent system. By late October most park facilities close down after the fall season, though some parks stay open for day use only such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or winter hiking. Winter RV camping is not available at the campgrounds around Millbrook.

Private resorts in this area lean toward serviced RV camping rather than backcountry tenting. Bensfort Bridge Resort has RV sites with hookups for drinking water, 30-amp electric and septic; tent sites have drinking water and electric hookups; and each campsite has its own private fire pit and picnic table. Sandaraska Park features comprehensive amenities including full hookups (water, electrical, and sewer), a dump station, laundry facilities, showers, and a swimming pool. Provincial park sites are more rustic. At Emily Provincial Park, the Cedars Campground offers private tent only sites that are non-electrical, though electrical sites are available in other loops. Expect gravel or grass pads, vault or flush washrooms depending on loop, and a park store for firewood and basics. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Peterborough and along Highway 115, weaker in the Ganaraska Forest interior. Bring bug repellent through early summer, and plan a dump-station stop before checkout at parks without full hookups.
