Campgrounds and RV parks near Nipissing, ON

Lake Nipissing and the smaller inland lakes drive most activity. Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing fill the summer calendar, and boat launches are common at both private marinas and provincial park day-use areas. Mikisew has three shallow sandy beaches plus a dedicated dog beach, and Eagle Lake is well suited to canoeing and kayaking with small islands to paddle around. Hiking is strong at Restoule, with the Fire Tower Trail the most popular route to a scenic lookout. The park also offers mountain biking on over 8 km of double and single tracks, along with canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals through the park store. Families with kids will find structured programming in summer. In July and August, visitors can join the Discovery Program to learn about local nature. Mikisew's day-use area also includes a basketball court, volleyball net, horseshoe pit, and a leash-free dog park and beach.

The provincial parks in this area operate on a defined season. Both Mikisew and Restoule typically run from early May to mid-October, so RV trips are effectively a late-spring through fall proposition. Private campgrounds around Nipissing generally follow a similar window, with a handful open through shoulder seasons for self-contained rigs. July and August are peak. Weekends fill fastest, and long weekends (Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day) book out well ahead. Early September is a strong window for RV renters: sites often remain available after the Labour Day long weekend, temperatures are still comfortable, and biting insects have tapered off. Fall brings colour. Restoule is especially enchanting in fall when the hardwood canopy explodes in colour and the park quiets down, typically peaking late September into early October. Late October through April is off-season; expect closed gatehouses, no water service, and snow cover on trails and access roads.

Expect Canadian Shield terrain: rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and lakes threaded through mature forest. Roads to the parks are paved but narrow in spots, and cell service is spotty away from Highway 11 and North Bay. Hookups vary. At Restoule, Putts Point and Bells Point Campgrounds feature private campsites without electricity, flush and vault toilets, laundry facilities and showers are available in Putts, and Kettle Point Campground contains the park's 97 electrical campsites. Mikisew's comfort stations are centrally located in each campground and include flush toilets, showers and laundry facilities, and electrical sites are available in both campgrounds. A trailer sanitation station is located near the Mikisew park office. This is bear and moose country. Store food securely, keep sites clean, and expect mosquitoes and blackflies in June. Non-electrical campers are encouraged to use quiet energy sources like solar or propane, and prolonged use of generators is deemed excessive noise and is an offence under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act.
