Camping near North Glengarry, Ontario
North Glengarry sits in the eastern tip of Ontario, between Ottawa and Montreal, with the St. Lawrence River corridor a short drive south. The township covers Alexandria, Maxville, and surrounding farmland, and most RV-friendly campgrounds cluster along the river in neighbouring South Glengarry, roughly 20 to 40 minutes from Alexandria.
Riverfront private parks lead the options. Lancaster Park Outdoor Resort sits on the St. Lawrence with a long sandy beach and full-service sites. Cameron's Point Family Campground and Maplewood Acres RV Park offer similar riverside and rural settings, while L Original Campground rounds out the private choices for tenters and trailers.
For a conservation-area experience, Charlottenburgh Park is managed by the Raisin Region Conservation Authority and features serviced and unserviced lots, a beach, boat launch, and a six-kilometre trail network. Together these campgrounds put RV renters within easy reach of Highland Games country, waterfront swimming, and the quiet back roads of Glengarry County.
Things to do around North Glengarry
The signature draw is the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, usually held the first weekend in August. The event spans two days, draws attendance of over 20,000, and is billed as the largest Highland Games outside of Scotland. Expect pipe bands, heavyweight events, Highland dancing, fiddling, and Celtic entertainment across the weekend.
Beyond the games, the Glengarry Trails system offers walking and cycling routes near Alexandria, and the Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan covers local Scottish heritage. Down at the river, boat launches at Lancaster and Summerstown open onto the St. Lawrence for bass, pike, and perch fishing. Charlottenburgh Park's nature trails, beach, and boardwalk suit families with younger kids, and Ottawa and Montreal are both under 90 minutes away for day trips.

The camping season in eastern Ontario runs roughly from the Victoria Day long weekend in May through Canadian Thanksgiving in October. Charlottenburgh Park opens for camping and day use across that same May to October window, and its canteen runs weekends from the May long weekend to Labour Day, then daily through July and August.
Summer is the busiest window. July and August bring warm swimming weather on the St. Lawrence, along with peak demand around the Highland Games weekend, when campgrounds within an hour of Maxville fill months in advance. Book early if the games are on the itinerary.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. May can still be chilly at night, and October brings hardwood colour along the Raisin River and county back roads. Winter camping is generally not available at the local private parks or at Charlottenburgh Park, though the Park's six-kilometre nature trail system is open year-round at no cost.

How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds in the area take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Lancaster Park Outdoor Resort, Cameron's Point Family Campground, Maplewood Acres RV Park, and L Original Campground each set their own minimum-stay rules, cancellation policies, and opening dates, so confirm details before locking in an RV rental.
Charlottenburgh Park uses a separate system run by the Raisin Region Conservation Authority. Online reservations for the upcoming season typically open in early March at rrca.on.ca, with daily, weekend, and monthly campsites bookable online. Seasonal sites are handled through a separate application and draw held the previous autumn. For popular summer weekends and anything overlapping the Highland Games, book as soon as reservations open.
What to expect on the ground
Roads through Glengarry County are mostly rural two-lane highways in good condition, with Highway 401 running along the southern edge and Highway 34 linking Alexandria to Lancaster. Larger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs will find easy access to riverfront parks off the 401.
Site types vary. Lancaster Park Outdoor Resort has full-service RV sites plus a beach on the St. Lawrence, while Charlottenburgh Park mixes serviced and unserviced lots in a wooded setting with beach, boat launch, and picnic areas. Expect mosquitoes and blackflies in late spring and early summer near wetlands and river edges, so pack repellent. Grocery stores, LCBO outlets, and propane refills are available in Alexandria, Lancaster, and Cornwall, all within a short drive of most campgrounds.
