Campgrounds near New Glasgow, PEI
New Glasgow sits in central Prince Edward Island along the River Clyde, roughly a 25-minute drive from Charlottetown and about 15 minutes inland from the Green Gables Shore beaches. The village itself is small, but its location puts RV travellers within easy reach of Cavendish, the Prince Edward Island National Park coastline, and the north-shore attractions most families come to the island to see.
Private campgrounds dominate the area. New Glasgow Highlands Campground is the closest to the village and sits on a wooded slope with three-way sites offering 30 and 50-amp service. A short drive west toward Cavendish opens up larger family resorts, including Marco Polo Land Campgrounds and Inn and deluxe Cabins and Cavendish KOA Holiday, both built around pools, playgrounds, and organized activities. Cymbria Tent and Trailer Park lies closer to Rustico Bay, and White Sands Cottages and Campground offers a quieter, cottage-style option.
Roads in the area are two-lane and rural, but distances between campgrounds, beaches, and Charlottetown are short, which makes New Glasgow a practical base for a week-long RV trip.
Things to do near New Glasgow
The main draw is the north shore. Cavendish Beach and the surrounding dune system sit inside Prince Edward Island National Park, with supervised swimming in summer and connecting trails for hiking and cycling. The 10 km Homestead Trail is accessible from the Cavendish Campground area and is suitable for both walking and biking.
Anne of Green Gables sites, including Green Gables Heritage Place, are within a short drive, and the area has several golf courses. New Glasgow itself is known for its lobster suppers and the River Clyde, with a preserve garden and small food producers along Route 224.
For rainy days, Charlottetown offers indoor attractions, waterfront restaurants, and the Confederation Centre of the Arts, all reachable in under half an hour.

The PEI camping season is short and clearly defined. Most private campgrounds in the New Glasgow and Cavendish area open in mid to late May and close by mid October. Prince Edward Island National Park operates its Cavendish and Stanhope campgrounds from roughly mid-June through late September, and reservations move through the Parks Canada Reservation Service.
July and August are peak season. Beaches are warm enough for swimming, festivals and lobster suppers run at full capacity, and popular sites at both national park and private campgrounds book out weeks in advance. Families travelling during school holidays should reserve as early as possible, particularly for full-hookup and oceanfront sites.
Late June and early September are quieter shoulder periods with cooler nights but far more site availability. Winter camping is not offered at the campgrounds listed above; snow, freezing temperatures, and closed park facilities effectively end RV travel on the island from late October until spring.

How to book campgrounds near New Glasgow
Private campgrounds around New Glasgow and Cavendish take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. New Glasgow Highlands Campground, Marco Polo Land Campgrounds and Inn and deluxe Cabins, Cavendish KOA Holiday, Cymbria Tent and Trailer Park, and White Sands Cottages and Campground each manage their own booking calendars, and most begin accepting summer reservations over the winter.
Sites inside Prince Edward Island National Park, including Cavendish Campground, are booked through the Parks Canada Reservation Service at 1-877-RESERVE or online at reservations.parkscanada.gc.ca. Reservations for the summer season open on a fixed launch date early in the year, and popular oceanfront sites and oTENTiks are typically claimed within hours of that opening.
For July and August travel, book both the RV and the campground as early as possible, and have backup dates ready.
What to expect on the ground
Expect wooded, well-treed sites at the smaller campgrounds and larger open resorts with pools and organized activities closer to Cavendish. New Glasgow Highlands Campground offers three-way sites with 30 and 50-amp service and some pull-through options for bigger rigs, while Marco Polo Land Campgrounds and Inn and deluxe Cabins runs a resort-style operation with hundreds of sites, multiple pools, and family activities.
Cell coverage is generally good across central PEI, and most private campgrounds offer Wi-Fi, though speeds vary. Roads leading to some rural campgrounds are red clay and can get muddy after heavy rain, so plan arrivals in daylight if possible.
Pets are welcome at most private campgrounds but are not permitted on national park beaches from April through mid October. Firewood is sold on site at most campgrounds; bringing wood from off-island is discouraged.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near New Glasgow, PE
How much does it cost to rent an RV in New Glasgow, PE?
An RV rental in New Glasgow is one of the most affordable ways to experience Prince Edward Island in summer. On RVezy, motorhomes near New Glasgow typically range from about $175 to $250 per night, while travel trailers usually run closer to $95 to $150 per night, and many hosts offer weekly discounts. For a cheap RV rental in New Glasgow, consider a travel trailer if you already have a tow vehicle, or filter by price range and book in June or September shoulder season. Pro tip: bundling delivery to nearby campgrounds like New Glasgow Highlands Campground often costs less than racking up mileage driving back and forth across the Island.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Glasgow%2C%20Prince%20Edward%20IslandWhat license do I need to rent an RV in New Glasgow, PE?
You are covered with a regular driver's license, no special RV class or commercial endorsement required to rent an RV in New Glasgow. Prince Edward Island accepts a standard Class 5 licence (or the equivalent from your home province, state, or country) for motorhomes and travel trailers available on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence and you are set. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how quick the verification step is, especially when they realize they can be cruising toward Cavendish the same afternoon.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included with my New Glasgow booking?
Yes, every RV rental in New Glasgow booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Confederation Bridge with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout to match your comfort. Roadside assistance is built in, so if you have a flat on Route 6 or a battery issue at New Glasgow Highlands Campground, help is one call away. Pro tip: review the protection options carefully during booking. Many guests on PEI's narrow rural roads choose a higher tier for the lower deductible.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my New Glasgow RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every motorhome rental in New Glasgow, and refunds depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start. That means you can lock in a peak-season RV before the Cavendish Beach Music Festival sells out with confidence in a clear, platform-wide policy. Outcomes can also be affected by unusual events like hurricanes or tropical storms, which occasionally graze the Maritimes in late summer. Pro tip: book early for July and August, then keep an eye on the Environment Canada forecast. RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip if anything comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from New Glasgow, PE?
Absolutely. Plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in New Glasgow are on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) right in the listing. PEI is wonderfully dog-friendly: leashed pets are welcome on most trails in PEI National Park, and many private campgrounds near New Glasgow accommodate pets. Many hosts include a small extra cleaning fee for pets, which is shown transparently at checkout. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm breed or size, and pack a towel for sandy red-sand paws after a North Shore beach run. Your pup will love the Island as much as you do.
parks.canada.ca/pn-np/pe/pei-ipe/visit/animaux-petsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in New Glasgow?
Yes, RV delivery in New Glasgow is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Filter by Delivery and you'll find hosts who will tow or drive the RV straight to Marco Polo Land, New Glasgow Highlands Campground, Cavendish KOA, or even a private cottage driveway, then level it, hook it up, and walk you through every system. You skip the stress of towing across the Confederation Bridge or navigating narrow PEI back roads. Delivery fees are set by each host based on distance. Pro tip: ask about a drop-and-go package so you can fly into Charlottetown Airport (about 30 minutes away) and step right into a fully set-up campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Glasgow%2C%20Prince%20Edward%20IslandHow many miles or kilometers do I get with my New Glasgow RV rental?
Great news: PEI is small, so you rarely need huge mileage to see the highlights. From New Glasgow, it's only 12 km to Cavendish Beach, 30 km to Charlottetown, 55 km to Summerside, and about 100 km to North Cape, meaning a full week of Island touring usually stays well under 500 km. Each host sets their own daily kilometer allowance and per-km overage rate, shown clearly on the listing. Some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect if you're planning a longer Maritimes loop. Pro tip: if you're tempted to cross to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, message the host first and confirm mileage and cross-border travel before you book.
princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/transportation-and-infrastructure/highway-distancesWhere are the best campgrounds near New Glasgow, PE?
You're in the sweet spot of PEI for RV camping New Glasgow trips. The best campgrounds near New Glasgow include New Glasgow Highlands Campground on Route 224 (a wooded family-run park with a saltwater pool, just 2 km away), Marco Polo Land in Cavendish (a huge 500+ site resort with full hookups, 11 km away), Cavendish KOA Holiday near the National Park, Cymbria Campground in Rustico, and PEI National Park's Stanhope and Cavendish campgrounds along the Gulf Shore. Pro tip: National Park sites at Cavendish and Stanhope book up fastest, so reserve through the Parks Canada Reservation Service the moment the booking window opens in January for a summer arrival.
parks.canada.ca/pn-np/pe/pei-ipe/activ/campingWhen is the best time to visit New Glasgow, PE in an RV?
Mid-June through mid-September is prime time for a New Glasgow RV trip, with July and August offering warm 22 to 26 C (72 to 79 F) days, ocean swimming, and full festival season including the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in July. Late June and early September are the insider's pick: campgrounds are quieter, prices dip, and the weather still cooperates. Most PEI campgrounds, including Parks Canada sites, operate from roughly mid to late May until early or mid October because winter brings snow and freezing temperatures. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season trip in early September to catch the PEI Fall Flavours food festival, when local lobster suppers in New Glasgow are at their best and the Island glows with autumn colour.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/index_e.htmlI've never driven an RV. Is renting in New Glasgow beginner-friendly?
Yes, New Glasgow is one of the easier places in Canada to be a first-time RV renter. Roads on PEI are flat, speeds are gentle (typically up to 90 km/h on highways and 80 km/h on most rural routes), and traffic outside Charlottetown is light. Your RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, slide-outs, dump procedures, and driving tips, and you can message them anytime during the trip. Many hosts offer delivery, so you can skip driving entirely and just enjoy the campsite. Pro tip: start with a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in New Glasgow for your first trip. They are easier to maneuver on Route 6's seaside curves than a 35-foot Class A.
princeedwardisland.ca/en/topic/drivers-handbookWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my New Glasgow trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on the Confederation Bridge, a dead battery at Cavendish Beach, or a propane issue at New Glasgow Highlands Campground is just a phone call away. Your host is also typically a quick message away with vehicle-specific advice. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything more complex comes up. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave the host's driveway, and snap a photo of your RV's make, model, and licence plate. It speeds up dispatch if you ever need help on a quiet PEI back road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my New Glasgow RV rental to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick?
Often yes, with a quick host confirmation. An RV road trip from New Glasgow across the Confederation Bridge to New Brunswick (about 50 km to the bridge, then on to Moncton in roughly 2 hours) or via the Wood Islands ferry to Caribou, Nova Scotia (about 75 minutes on the water) is a classic Maritimes loop. Because each host sets their own travel boundaries, message them before booking to confirm your route. Travel into the United States may also be allowed with host approval, but travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a 7 to 10 day Maritimes triangle (PEI, Cape Breton's Cabot Trail, Bay of Fundy) is one of the most loved RV routes in eastern Canada.
confederationbridge.com/How much should I budget for fuel on a New Glasgow RV trip?
Fuel is one of the smaller line items for an RV rental in PEI because distances are short. Gasoline prices in Prince Edward Island are regulated by the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission and posted weekly, typically in the range of about $1.50 to $1.80 per litre in recent seasons. A Class C motorhome averages roughly 18 to 22 L/100 km, and a campervan rental in New Glasgow gets closer to 12 to 14 L/100 km. A typical week of Island touring covers 300 to 500 km, so budget roughly $100 to $200 for fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Charlottetown or Summerside where stations are larger and easier to maneuver than rural pumps.
irac.pe.ca/petroleum/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Glasgow?
Book early and you'll have your pick. For summer 2026, reserve PEI National Park campgrounds (Cavendish, Stanhope, Robinsons Island) through the Parks Canada Reservation Service as soon as the booking window opens in January, especially for July and August weekends. Private parks like Marco Polo Land, Cavendish KOA, and New Glasgow Highlands Campground typically open reservations in late winter and fill peak weeks by April or May. Provincial parks reserve through TourismPEI.com's online system. Pro tip: if you're booking last minute, target Sunday-through-Thursday arrivals. Midweek availability in New Glasgow is usually wide open, even in July, and many private campgrounds offer a small midweek discount.
reservation.pc.gc.ca/What are driving conditions like around New Glasgow, PE?
Driving around New Glasgow is refreshingly easy. PEI's roads are flat, well-paved, and lightly trafficked outside Charlottetown rush hour. Route 13 through New Glasgow and Route 6 along the North Shore are scenic two-lane roads with gentle curves and 70 to 80 km/h speed limits. Watch for tractors during planting and harvest, red-dirt shoulders that can be soft after rain, and occasional fog along the coast in early morning. The Confederation Bridge has speed and high-wind restrictions for high-profile vehicles, so check current crossing conditions before you go. Pro tip: review the Confederation Bridge's live traveller information page before crossing with a tall motorhome on a windy afternoon.
confederationbridge.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near New Glasgow?
Expect more than you might think. Most campgrounds near New Glasgow offer 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi in common areas, and a campstore. Marco Polo Land has pools, mini-golf, and a restaurant; New Glasgow Highlands has a heated saltwater pool and walking trails; Cavendish KOA has full hookups and a jumping pillow. Dump stations are available at most full-service parks, plus a public dump station at the PEI National Park Stanhope area. Water fills are typically at your site or near the entrance. Pro tip: if you're staying at a Parks Canada site without sewer hookup, plan a quick dump-and-fill stop at Stanhope or New Glasgow Highlands on your way to the next destination.
parks.canada.ca/pn-np/pe/pei-ipe/activ/camping/servicesWhat's typically included inside a New Glasgow RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how turn-key these rigs are. Motorhomes on RVezy typically come with real beds (queen in the back, convertible dinettes, often a bunk or loft), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, outdoor speakers, awning, and outdoor chairs; some have a generator, solar, or Wi-Fi hotspot. Campervans pack the essentials into a smaller footprint perfect for solo or couple's travel. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 6' or 'Sleeps 8' for a family RV trip New Glasgow, and check the listing photos closely. PEI hosts often include extras like beach chairs, bikes, and bedding at no charge.
tc.gc.ca/en/services/road/child-car-seat-safety.htmlWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in New Glasgow?
Hosts offer a great range of add-ons to make your trip easier. Common options on New Glasgow listings include delivery and setup, generator use, propane refills, linens and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor gear (bikes, kayaks, beach chairs), and pet packages. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near New Glasgow, Hunter River, or Charlottetown, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Some hosts will meet you at Charlottetown Airport (YYG, about 25 minutes away) for an extra fee. Mileage policies and overage rates are listed transparently on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a linens package on your first booking. It turns your arrival into an instant vacation with zero setup.
tourismpei.com/pei-getting-hereHow do payment and the security deposit work for my New Glasgow RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit card at booking. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is held as a pre-authorization on your card around the time of pickup, then released after the host confirms the RV is returned in good condition. Deposit amounts vary by RV and are shown on the listing before you book. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff in the host's driveway in New Glasgow. It is the easiest way to avoid any deposit disputes and keeps everyone on the same page.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from New Glasgow, PE?
You are perfectly placed for an epic RV road trip from New Glasgow. Top routes include Cavendish Beach and Green Gables Heritage Place (about 15 km / 20 minutes), Charlottetown's waterfront and Victoria Row (about 30 km / 30 minutes), Greenwich Dunes in PEI National Park's east end (about 90 km / 75 minutes), North Cape with its wind turbines and red cliffs (about 130 km / under 2 hours), and Point Prim Lighthouse plus the Wood Islands ferry on the south shore (about 75 km / 1 hour). For a bigger loop, cross the Confederation Bridge toward Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick or take the ferry to Cape Breton's Cabot Trail. Pro tip: drive the Central Coastal scenic route in a single day, lobster supper in New Glasgow included.
