Campgrounds near North Rustico
North Rustico sits on Prince Edward Island's north shore, a small fishing village between Cavendish and the harbour mouth. Locally known as The Crick, it is a short drive from Cavendish and centres on a working harbour with lobster suppers, artisan shops, a boardwalk and deep sea fishing charters. The town borders the Cavendish-North Rustico section of Prince Edward Island National Park, which puts RV travellers within minutes of protected beaches, dunes and trail systems.
The Cavendish-North Rustico region of the national park runs along the central north coast and is known for sandy beaches, red sandstone cliffs, coastal dunes and wetlands rich with wildlife. RV options nearby range from the serviced Parks Canada campground at Cavendish to private parks along the coastal roads.
Campground choices close to North Rustico include White Sands Cottages and Campground, New Glasgow Highlands Campground, Cymbria Tent and Trailer Park, Marco Polo Land Campgrounds and Inn and deluxe Cabins, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Cavendish. Each sits within a short drive of the harbour and the national park gates.
Things to do near North Rustico
The national park is the main draw. Visitors can walk boardwalks and two stretches of the paved Gulf Shore Way, ideal for cycling, and hike Cavendish-area trails including the Dunelands floating boardwalk and the Homestead loop that crosses farm fields and follows the coast. A popular bike outing links the Cavendish Dunelands Trail to the Beach Lane Trail, reaching North Rustico Harbour in about 15 km.
In the village itself, the harbour hosts deep sea fishing charters, seafood restaurants and a boardwalk to the beach. Nearby Cavendish also features Green Gables Heritage Place and other sites connected to L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables stories. Families with an RV can combine beach days with paved-trail cycling and short heritage stops without long drives.

The camping window is short. Prince Edward Island National Park's Cavendish Campground typically operates from mid-June into late September, and private parks around Cavendish and North Rustico follow a similar late-spring to late-September pattern. Outside that window, most campgrounds are closed and services in the village wind down.
July and August are peak season, when beaches are supervised and interpretive programs run. Parks Canada suggests the shoulder season to avoid crowds, noting that June and September are excellent months to explore the national park. Ocean water is warmest in August, and September brings quieter trails with cooler nights.
Late summer and early fall carry hurricane and post-tropical storm risk on the north shore. Recent post-tropical systems have uprooted or destroyed many trees in Cavendish Campground, particularly shallow-rooted white spruce that were susceptible to high winds. Renters travelling in September should watch tropical forecasts and confirm site availability if a storm is approaching.

How to book campgrounds near North Rustico
For the national park, reservations run through the Parks Canada Reservation Service. Bookings can be made online at the Parks Canada reservation site or by phone at 1-877-737-3783. Reservations for Prince Edward Island National Park typically open in January for the coming summer season, covering RV-friendly sites at Cavendish Campground and Stanhope Campground. Serviced RV sites and oTENTiks are the first to fill for July and August weekends.
Private campgrounds near North Rustico, including White Sands Cottages and Campground, Cymbria Tent and Trailer Park, Marco Polo Land Campgrounds and Inn and deluxe Cabins, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Cavendish, and New Glasgow Highlands Campground, take their own reservations directly by website or phone. Book RV-length sites with full hookups several months ahead for peak summer, and confirm site length and slide-out clearance for any rented rig.
What to expect
Expect a compact, coastal setting. Distances between the harbour, Cavendish attractions and national park beaches are short, and paved multi-use trails make cycling a practical alternative to driving. Beaches in the area feature wide swaths of sand set against PEI's signature red sandstone cliffs, and the sand at Cavendish itself reads distinctly red. A supervised beach area operates in season.
RV renters should plan for wind and evolving tree cover in the national park campground after recent storms. Beach erosion has exposed rocky sections at Cavendish that used to be mostly sand. When beaches are unsupervised, visitors swim at their own risk. Cell service is generally reliable in the village, sites can be exposed to sun and wind, and evenings cool quickly even in July.
