Campgrounds and RV parks near Charette, QC

La Mauricie National Park is the headline attraction, with hiking trails, swimming beaches, and a network of over 150 lakes connected by canoe routes and portages. Day visitors can paddle Wapizagonke Lake, swim near Shewenegan, or drive the Parkway between viewpoints. Closer to Charette, Camping Lac St-Michel and Camping Du Parc give RV travellers lake access for swimming and fishing without entering the national park. Cycling on quiet rural roads, wildlife watching, and trips to Shawinigan and Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc for groceries and supplies round out the options. In autumn, the maple and birch forests of the Mauricie region draw leaf-peeping traffic; in winter, La Mauricie shifts to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing from the Saint-Jean-des-Piles entrance.

Frontcountry camping at La Mauricie runs from late May to mid-October at Mistagance, with shorter windows at Wapizagonke and the group campground. July and August are peak months: warm days, full services, and the highest demand for sites. Three dates fill the fastest in this region: the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day weekend on June 24, the Canada Day weekend on July 1, and Quebec's two-week construction holiday in late July and early August. Reservations for these dates should be locked in as soon as the booking window opens. Spring brings cool nights, blackflies in late May and June, and high water on rivers. September offers warm days, cooler nights, and thinning crowds, followed by intense maple and birch colour in early October. Snow generally covers the ground from December through March. Most private campgrounds close for winter, while La Mauricie keeps a limited winter offer through the Saint-Jean-des-Piles entrance, including access to the Rivière-à-la-Pêche service centre, winter backcountry sites, and oTENTik accommodations.

Private campgrounds near Charette generally offer a mix of unserviced, partially serviced, and fully serviced RV sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups, plus shared showers, laundry, and a small store or canteen. Sites in this area tend to be wooded and reasonably level. Inside La Mauricie National Park, Mistagance Campground provides semi-serviced sites with two-outlet electric pedestals (120V 15/20 amp and 120V 30 amp) on 26 sites, service buildings with free toilets and showers in each loop, and a sewage dumping station. Generator use is restricted to limited daily windows, and quiet hours are enforced. Cell coverage can be patchy inside the national park and on backroads. Bring insect repellent in early summer, layers for cool nights even in July, and a backup water supply if dry-camping at primitive sites.
