Campgrounds and RV parks near Girardville, QC

The dominant draw is the Véloroute des Bleuets, a paved cycling loop that circles Lac-Saint-Jean and passes through Pointe Taillon Provincial Park for one of its most scenic stretches. The park itself is a sandy peninsula with long beaches, swimming, sea kayaking, and an internal cycle network linking its sectors. Wildlife viewing is strong: moose, beavers, and shorebirds are common in the park's peat bogs and wetlands. Closer to Girardville, the Mistassini and Ashuapmushuan rivers support canoeing, whitewater paddling, and fishing. Local outfitters in Girardville run guided nature programs and arctic-wolf observation. Families often pair a campground stay with a day at the Zoo Sauvage de Saint-Félicien, about a half-hour south.

The camping season is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds in the region operate from late May to mid-October, with peak demand in July and August when school holidays align with the warmest, driest stretch. Pointe Taillon Provincial Park opens its campgrounds from late spring through mid-October; weather is warmest in July and August, which is also the busiest period. Spring and fall shoulder seasons are quieter but carry a higher risk of cold snaps, rain, and wet snow at the margins. Blackflies and mosquitoes peak from late May into early July, so families travelling with young children often prefer mid-July onward. Fall brings boreal-forest colour through September, with frosts arriving by October. Camping Chute A Lours operates as a four-season site, though winter activity centres on cabins, motel rooms, snowshoeing, and snowmobile access rather than full RV camping. Most other RV parks close once services are shut down for the season.

Expect rustic and semi-serviced sites more often than full-hookup pads. Sépaq campgrounds in Pointe Taillon Provincial Park are mostly without services, and some sectors are accessible only by bike, foot, or water. Private sites at Camping Chute A Lours offer a mix of unserviced sites, two-service sites, and three-service pads with 30 or 50 amp electricity. Cell coverage is reliable in villages but patchy on back roads and in the park interior. Roads to most campgrounds are paved and suitable for larger rigs, though interior park access is largely bike-only. Insects can be heavy in early summer, so bring repellent and screened shelter. Sandy beaches, boreal forest, and long northern daylight hours define the experience.
